That Wednesday Thing Again

It's hump day. And it's raining YET AGAIN in the PNW, which is bad enough, but when I got out of bed this morning, it was actually COLD in the house. COLD! In August! It's absolutely infuriating, this lack of summer weather.

This crappy weather is making me think longingly about moving somewhere warm and balmy and sunny. So that's the hump day question of the week: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Gnus of the Gnood Kind

And indeed, I have gnood gnus. A couple pieces, actually. The bookish gnus is that Penguin Putnam has been working hard to sell some foreign rights for my books, which means the dragon books will be hitting the UK and Australia. And more vampire books should be gracing German bookstores, as well. I'm not sure when the dragons are due out in Germany, but the rights have already been bought there, so hopefully they'll be out soon.

In addition to that, I finally worked my way through the December 07 reader mail, which means I'm up to 2008 mail! Hoobah! Hopefully I can get through several more months so the queue isn't quite so hideous.

Now, if we could just have a return to summer weather in the Pacific Northwest, my cup would runneth over…

Field Trip Chocolate. Kind of.

Today's field trip combines chocolately goodness with H.P. Lovecraft. Kind of. Behold, the glory that is SELECTIONS FROM H.P. LOVECRAFT'S BRIEF TENURE AS A WHITMAN'S SAMPLER COPYWRITER (by Luke Burns).

My favorite line? "They say that the Coconut Creme Swirl sleeps."

Humpy Day Q

Today's hump day question is an oldie but a goodie: what book are you currently reading?

And since people always ask, I'll mention that I just started on Sharan Newman's Catherine LeVendeur medieval mystery series. I've long wanted to try these books, being both a history and mystery fan, but for some reason never ran across them in stores. I broke down and ordered five of them, and greedily started reading one last night.

Gnus Day!

Bet you thought I forgot, hmm?

All righty! Let's line up our good news for the week. Mine is that I have new books to read, I'm making slow (but steady) process in the huge wad of mail that came a few weeks ago, and I still have a couple of weeks left before I have to start the next book. Yay for free time!

Your turn! What fabulous things have been happening with all of you lately?

Olympic Dishy Guy Monday

This week we here at Rancho Doghair are tipping our hat to the Olympics, and all the gorgeous men who have been spotted parading about in skin-tight clothing. Whilst watching the CBC's coverage of the Olympics, I noted with much interest the upcoming kayak events, not because I was a kayak fan, but because I spotted a Canadian kayaker named Adam Van Koeverden.

Adam was Canada's flag bearer, and I, for one, think they made an exceptionally good choice.

Almost makes me want to take up the sport…

Humpy Day Again?

Mercy, how time flies.

Let's try this as a hump day question: Do you watch the Olympics, and if so, what event is the one you most anticipate?

Bonus points: do the buff divers (male or female, your choice) in their skimpy swimsuits make you want to have digital capture on your TV, too?

GNT

So. Good news. That's what today is all about. Unfortunately, I seem to be somewhat lacking in good news. Wait…maybe I just need an attitude adjustment.

Bad news: mother-in-law has to have a blood transfusion today because her blood is wonky again.
Good news: she's getting a transfusion, and the doctors are aware something is still awry, which hopefully can be fixed.
Good news: she's also getting stronger, and is talking about moving in to an assisted living facility, a very nice one that is just a few blocks from her house, so all her friends would be able to visit her easily.
Good news: blood issue aside, she seems to be gaining strength

Bad news: I woke up with a killer backache that I was convinced were my kidneys shutting down (I can't just have a backache from sleeping wonky, oh no, it has to be something seriously wrong).
Good news: ibuprofen and the movement from steaming the kitchen floor have eased the backache to the point where it's almost gone.
Good news: clean kitchen floor!
Good news: I want to marry Mr. Ibuprofen

Bad news: I discovered that sometime during the last few years when I had the Great Purging of Books in which I cleaned out a bunch of books I never read, I must have thrown out one of my Roberta Gellis books (I love those books).
Good news: I found a couple Gellis books I'd forgotten I had, and they are now awaiting a reread.
Good news: I also found the copy of Dark Desire that bears a note from Christine Feehan that Jacques is mine, mine, all mine (I only had to pester her for YEARS to get her to write that). Adding it to the reading stack.

Bad news: the kitchen floor may be clean, but the rest of the house is showing neglect from my recent "head down to finish this book" phase.
Good news: Washing windows and cleaning up should continue to keep my back loosened up and happier.
Good news: I tend to work on the reward system, where completion of one task, or reasonable amount of a task, calls for some time to sit down and read. More Roberta Gellis time!

Your turn to dig some gold out of the lumps of clay in your life. Assuming you need to do so, naturally.

"Katie," I hear you say, a faint note of distress in your collective voices. "Not another guy with stubble? What is it with you and stubble?"

I admit that I might have a slight stubble problem. At least so far as it applies to men who sport sexy, sexy stubble. But honestly, just look at the pictures of Nandan the model! The stubble is good!

All right, he looks good without it, too, but that's beside the point.
