Maybe I don't have to move to canada

A couple weeks ago, I went to the Minnesota Senate District 60 convention... We had over 150 resolutions to read through and vote on. These resolutions included things like universal health care for all, troops out now, environmental safeguards, the types of changes I'd like to see happen. Now I am starting to get it, maybe I really CAN help to make our country the kind of place of which I'd be proud to say I'm a citizen. The resolutions I voted on were written and introduced by people like me at small neighborhood caucuses. Until I began this journey into the Minnesota Democrat Farmer Labor Party (and I'd never been to a caucus before), I was disenchanted with our country and thought seriously about moving to Canada where they seem more progressive and they have health care for all. It was enlightening to learn that the democrats here view universal health care for all people as a primary objective in their party platform.
I know a lot of other people like me have been seriously considering moving to another more progressive party ever since this whole "W" regime began. If you're like that, consider making friends with people who are involved in the government in your region, and see what happens. I would have never gone down this road this year if it weren't for my involvement in my little neighborhood newspaper "The Uptown Neighborhood News."
The people I've met through the paper are all seasoned activists and being around them makes me feel like I live in Berkeley or something!

flowers

Snowdrops - photo from first day they bloomed March 10. Then 12 inches of snow got dumped on top. They are still going strong. Today they opened up a little. so cute! They are the first flowers I've seen anywhere in Minneapolis, and they are in our little front yard. (Thanks to the former owner who was a landscape architect!)

Art stuff & a picture of Everett

3-6-06 Art & Antiques Magazine has an article (click here to see the pdf 280kb) about Surrealism featuring my work, "Hello I Love You Robot." This was written by a Minneapolitan named Terrance Lindall who saw my work at the Brooklyn show "Characterism: Pop Culture Art in USA and Japan," back in Feb. of 2004. I was pregnant back then. Art has been slowed down here since I've been working on programming our little baby boy. I'm starting to try and meet other midwesterner artists now and a couple I really like are Scott Stulen and Allen Brewer. Also, it was fun to hear from donut artist Mike Eaton. Although I haven't made a donut painting since way back when I was a baker in Eugene, OR I enjoyed chatting with Mike on the phone. He is setting up some donut shows on the west coast and he also makes donut soft sculpture. News: This month's "The Rake" (a Minneapolis culture magazine) features a little illustration of mine- a lovesick fish.

Here's a little picture of Everett at the Minneapolis Art Institute.

Today was a stay-at-home day

Another cold and grey day here in Minneapolis. It was a good day to eat blueberry frozen waffles, clean the bathtub, and surf the internet looking for pictures of how we'd like our house to be painted! (colorful) We're thinking deep red/violet color in house paint or trim, black windows - we're getting new windows -- Here's an image from local architect Dale Mulfinger

Pretty soon we'll be getting some major renovation done on our house including lead abatement so we'll be boxing up a lot of things. That's good because we've gotta get organized. Our space is small and we are inundated with stuff. Heres a picture of Everett & his cousin Grace from a cute little coffeeshop called Riverview.
