FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FORSYTHE WHITFIELD RELEASES CD LIVE FROM FIRST LIFE & SECOND LIFE

Roots & Blues artist Forsythe Whitfield (http://www.manitobahal.com) is set to release his new CD "Worn Out Shoes" live in Montreal Canada on February 29th 2008. Forsythe will also be releasing "Worn Out Shoes" in Second Life at the House of Flames (http://www.sl-houseofflames.com) at the same time. This will be a special opportunity to experience Forsythe with a live audience during this First Life/Second Life mash up. The show will feature a live stream from Montreal along with a unique performance set that will change throughout the evening and even a fireworks display between sets. The show begins in world, at the House of Flames, at 5:00 PM SLT/PST. Montian Gilruth will open up the show followed by Forsythe's first set at 6:00 PM and second set at 7:00 PM. The House of Flames MC, Cybster DJ (http://www.cybster.dj) will be keeping the party going between sets.

Forsythe, also known as Hal Brolund, has been making music in Canada for over 10 years and has toured extensively in that country. He explains that Second Life has been instrumental in the growth of his music career in the last year. "Since I've been playing shows here in SL, my online CD sales have increased and there are more folks emailing me about my music. I have been pre-selling my CDs to help fund them for a number of years, and this time most of the subscribers to the CD are residents of SL. Normally to sell CDs an independent artist like me has to spend time on the road. Playing for the people where they live. With Second Life I play for the people from my home and they meet me in the place we both live, Second Life." There will be several kiosks at the venue where the complete album, including artwork, may be purchased for Linden's as well as individually downloadable tracks.

"Worn Out Shoes" was produced by Canadian roots icon David Essig (http://www.davidessig.com) on an island off Canada's west coast. The CD features a compelling blend of vulnerability, confidence and highlights his skills as a writer and performer of original material. The songs range from stories about roadside chicken joints to failed relationships and pure red blooded lust. The undercurrent of the CD is a quiet faith that love will win out and that the real heroism of a relationship isn't whether it survives but that fragile broken people even try to love at all - Amen.

DRESS SOPHIE AND WIN A PERSONAL MEET-AND-GREET WITH THE AUTHOR!

Hi there,

Last month was a busy month for me personally, but it is time I turn my attention to Second Life and the House of Flames. Once again the we will be an affiliate location for the upcoming live author reading and interview with Bantam Dell on Sunday, March 2nd at 2:00 PM SLT.  The author is New York Times best seller, Sophie Kinsella (Shopaholic series). Between now and February 21st, 2008 Bantam Dell is holding a contest: "DRESS SOPHIE AND WIN A PERSONAL MEET-AND-GREET WITH THE AUTHOR!" The House of Flames (http://slurl.com/secondlife/House%20of%20Flames/130/66/34) has several "Dress Sophie's Avatar" kiosks located throughout the House of Flames islands. The Bantam Dell Publishing Group is the sponsor of this contest. Please read the official contest rules below.

I have no talent when it comes to designing clothes or picking outfits. I have had help from many over the years, but this contest sounds like a lot of fun if you are at all savvy with fashion design and putting together outfits. I wish all those that enter the best of luck and hope to see you all on March 2nd for the reading and interview.

Schuyler

DRESS SOPHIE AND WIN A PERSONAL MEET-AND-GREET WITH THE AUTHOR!

This is your chance to go shopping for Sophie Kinsella. We want you to create the look for Sophie Kinsella's avatar in Second Life.

Here is how to enter the Dress Sophie Contest:

Go shopping! Travel throughout Second Life, visiting your favorite shops. Purchase the items you think make the perfect outfit for Sophie — dresses, skirts, shirt pants, shoes, hats, whatever comes to mind. Or if you are a designer in Second Life, make the perfect outfit. Spending limit is $2,000 Linden Dollars (roughly $8 US).

Submit a texture image of yourself in the outfit you purchased for Sophie and a notecard containing your real name, avatar name, e-mail address, country of residence, and a list of each item and where it was purchased to the "Dress Sophie" drop box in the Bantam Dell Book Shop and Café on Bantam Dell Island. (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bantam%20Dell%20Island/128/124/25)

The winners will be announced at Sophie Kinsella's Second Life appearance on March 2, 2008.

The Grand Prize is a personal meet-and-greet with Sophie Kinsella in Second Life immediately following the event and a signed copy of Sophie Kinsella's new novel, Remember Me?.

Ten first prize winners will receive signed copies of Remember Me?.

The winning outfits will be displayed at the event.

"Dress Sophie's Avatar" FAQ

How do I submit my notecard & image?

            - Click the submission mailbox at Bantam Dell Island. (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bantam%20Dell%20Island/128/124/25)

            - Select your notecard, hold ctrl and drag the notecard onto the mailbox. ** MAKE SURE YOU SUBMIT A NOTECARD YOU CREATED.

            - Select your image, hold ctrl and drag the image onto the mailbox. ** MAKE SURE YOUR TEXTURE IS FULL PERM.

            - Make sure you get a message that says "Thank you..."

How do I make my texture full perm?

            - Right click your texture, select Properties

            - Make sure "Modify", "Copy", "Resell/Give away", and "Share with Group" are all checked.

How do I buy clothes?

            - Head to one of the thousands of stores in Second Life.

            - Right click the item you wish to buy and select "Buy" from the pie window.

Here is a landmark to Fashion Avenue with great stores and instructions for shopping:  (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Fashion%20Avenue/128/133/28)

My purchase was given to me wrapped in a box!  What do I do?

You will find it quite common when you purchase items, such as clothes, that the seller has "boxed" them for delivery. No worries, your clothes are stored safely inside the box, but you will need to "unpack" the items.

To do so:1. Open your inventory and locate the object (box) usually found in your Objects folder.

2. Drag the box from your inventory onto the ground in front of you. (You will need to be on land which allows you to "build" such as a sandbox or Onrez Island).

3. Right click on the box on the ground and choose "Open" from the pie menu.

4. You will now see a window appear with a list of the items contained in the box. You have two options - Copy to Inventory or Copy and Wear. Choose either one and your items will be transferred to a folder in your inventory.

5. Now that the box on the ground is empty you can right click on it again, choose "more" then choose "delete" and it will be sent to your trash can in your inventory.

How do I take a snapshot?

            - Click ctrl+shift+S

            - Select Upload a Snapshot

            - Be sure to RENAME your snapshot in your inventory (right click snapshot and select "Rename").  Name your snapshot as follows: "Avatar Name Sophie Kinsella Outfit"

How do I create a landmark?

            - Be sure to include landmarks to the stores where you bought your clothing.

            - Go to World > Create Landmark Here.

            - You can drag the landmark onto your notecard.

Just as 2007 is ending and 2008 is getting ready begin...

I am excited to share a little bit of news… I received an email this morning that directed me to the Second Life website (www.secondlife.com). The web team over at Linden Lab has been doing a lot of redesign to the Second Life website. They have recently redesigned their Showcase page (www.secondlife.com/showcase/) and guess who is listed on that page? Mmmm Hmmm… that's right… the House of Flames! They have four of the venues featured and we are one of them. I don't know how often they will change the featured venues, but what a cool Christmas gift and great start to 08. Below is the full list (at the time of this posting) on the Second Life Showcase page (www.secondlife.com/showcase/). We are surrounded by some incredible venues ran by good friends and really talented people. I wish them all much success in the New Year.

All the best,
