Liteside festival Amsterdam: update with piccies!
Current mood: exhausted
.. The Liteside festival in Amsterdam was all kinds of awesome last Sunday!!
There were lots of familiar faces in the audience, too
There was a 2-hour masterclass with Sharon Kihara in the Flexbar before the show (See Kyrias pich with DJ Sharon!) where we did a yoga-warmup and some neat drills and mini-combinations. The WS could have been longer for me tho, it just seemed to fly by! There was not very much time for makeup and costume afterward, and only a tiny space with one mirror for all performers, so a small panic ensued Thankfully the Liteside team was very creative, they made sure that in the end everyone survived *and* looked fab just in time for their act The backstage atmosphere was great (but it was difficult to be quiet haha). I had the honor to meet Charbydis (they won the Shimmyshake as a duet last year and danced their award-winning choreography at the show) and Karin de Wit (who did a spectacular hoop dance!) and many other great dancers there. Miss Sharon Kihara was gorgeous as always of course, she danced a medley of songs and that great piece I saw in Utrecht to close with. Serkan rocked the house with a classical peace and drum solo. My bellybreak performance at the start of the show went well (I pimped it a bit with eighties moves and used dance music this time, so hello armwaves and moonwalk hehe ) and I was *very very* happy with the second number at the end to Savina Yannatou's 'Kemal'. (veil dance, inspired by Aziza of Canada/US) So all that practice was not for nothing!
Thanks so much Milka for the performance piccies by the way! After the show I met Aisa Lafour (*waves*) and my dance friends Milka and Ramona from Holland.
There was some time to chill out after the show outside and to close off the day Serkan took a few pics with Sharon, me and the organisational team (will post them when I get them!)
In short: It was a great event with very nice people and lots of interesting activities and I was very honored to be part of it.
Thank you to all who came to see the show and a BIG thank you to the Liteside team for taking such good care of us!
xoxo Khalida www.khalida.biz
PS: Our hoopgirl (Karin de Wit) closed the show, she won Liteside's Shimmyshake competition last year! Check her out at www.youtube.com/user/karindewit

Workshops, workshops. workshops
Current mood: adventurous
People have been asking me left and right about workshops with Isis wings. The dance space here in Aachen would be excellent to use for that, and Sunday, 28th of September is still free at the moment so.. date and place are all set! And.. because just one workshop is never enough we will do a shimmies workshop on the same day as well! That way our legs can have a workout, too. So it will be: Sunday, 28th September 2008 13:00 - 15:00h Shimmies 15:30 - 17:30h Isis wings Level: All levels Price: 24 Euro per workshop (19 Euro for members) Location: Ballettschule Renoldi, Weststrasse 34 in Aken (DE) Signup: via info@khalida.biz See you guys there! Khalida PS: The last few and the coming few weeks are all about workshops. I taught a workshop zills and isis wings (no, not at the same time ) in Leuven (BE), hosted by Artemisia of Belgium. It was fab, Artemisia is a great host and we had lots of wings to fly with: See piccie! Tomorrow I'll be taking a workshop with Magdy El Leisy in Duisburg (DE). Next week of course we have miss Sharon Kihara's masterclass in Amsterdam for the Liteside festival (Yess!!) and the week after that I'll be teaching a workshop on hands/arms and one on veil dance in Simmerath(DE). Pshew. And not forgetting: There's workshop weekends with the wonderful Orit in Eindhoven in October (yay!) *and* Bellydance Superstar Bozenka is coming to Brussels 1st of November (w00t!). After that there'll be the weeklong workshops with Ava Fleming, Aziza of Canada ánd Moria in Duisburg end of November. Aaahhh, I'm getting muscle cramps just thinking about it. Lush
Category: Blogging
Got my lush postal package yesterday and tried out all the stuff that seemed combine-able this morning. End result: I feel all luxurious and pampered and glowy. And Ernst says I smell funny.
I tried: - Aqua marina face wash. loved it, or at least after I figured out to mix it with water BEFORE trying to put it on my face. Skin felt clean but not dry or squeaky afterwards. - Flying fox honey shower gel: feels great, no lather, smells a bit funny - Wiccy magic muscles massage bar: heats up like mild tiger balm, smells REALLY funny - Brazened honey face mask: great stuff, exfoliates but doesn't dry out my skin, easy to wash off, smells okay - Gorgeous face cream: wish it wasn't so damn expensive, feels good, smells great - Helping hands hand cream: love it.

Fanshirts
Because there were a lot of students asking about them we've decided to make the design available of the Aziza fanshirts we wore in Brussels!
And because we're so modest :0) we've decided to add our own fan-designs to the shop as well. So now you can get your very own Aziza, Artemisia, Khalida or Razia fanclub T-shirt, whoo!
You can order directly here http://fanstuffshop.spreadshirt.net Edited to add: there's a free shipping code for orders before the 17th of July!!
Great fun to wear at workshops and class :-)
Also recommended: The official Aziza merchandise, which you can get at www.azizashop.com. there are some fantastic DVDS, T-shirts and tops there AND the cds with the music she uses in her workshops.

Aziza weekend in Brussels!
Current mood: exhausted
Just got back from an intensive weekend in Brussels with the fabulous Aziza hosted by Nuriyya.. and it rocked!
See our silly fangirl Tshirt pic: featuring me, Razia, Aziza and Artemisia. We'll need more Thirts for Duisburg in November!
We learned a gorgeous new veil choreography, a fun and funny new drum solo and lots and lots of good concepts and excersises for practise and class during the drills, combinations and masterclass workshop. So much information to process, I'll be chewing on this material for a while.
Razia was there too, a very cool person and fabulous dancer! She wrote an excellent review on the workshop weekend on her tribe: http://tribes.tribe.net/raziadance/thread/2fa2afeb-88ee-4136-bae9-b1b3e426cd98

Sharon Kihara WS weekend in Brussels
Current mood: excited
Update: the show with Sharon in Brussels has been cancelled unfortunately, due to hooligan riots in the neighborhood of the Theathre, boo!
The workshop weekend however was perfect, only a little bit short.
Me and Milka had a great time and we worked our buts off in the conditioning workshops!! We did some great isolation drills, a challenging Yoga warmup and a very cute choreography with ballet influence and lots of 'miauws' and 'hinniks' in the music.
Update: I just received an invitation to dance at the www.liteside.nl festival on Sunday the 24th of August, Sharon will be there too that weekend so it's going to be awesome! Old post: ================================================== Woohoo!! Sharon Kihara from the Bellydance Superstars is coming to Brussels next week and I will dancing on the same stage!! Back from Istanbul :-)
Current mood: exhausted
Sooo, we just got back from 4 days in Istanbul. Lovely sight-seeing and shopping trip, see pics!
Tuesday
First stop: Bella Shop!! (100 meters from Sisli Metro station) with Bella cats. Wonderful to meet "teh Miss Bella" herself finally. Lovely lady, she's a true professional with a lot of passion for her work.. And a LOT of cats :)
On Wednesday we went to Istanbul Dreams, a shop near the fountain next to Aya Sophia and the Blue Mosque. I still had a coupon from the contest, so shopping there was made easy :) Lovely practice tops!
On Thursday we went to Emin, a professional doumbek shop (can be found near Tünel at end of Istiklal Kadesi, you can walk from Taksim square if the weather is good) Ended up in a street full of music shops. We spotted Tarkans drummer there!! And even got him to play for us :-)

And of course Starbucks!!! Can be found everywhere :) I spotted at least 3of them and I wasn't even looking.
The Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet:
The Grand Bazaar:
We had dinner at orient house on Friday evening. We met one of the house dancers there, named Oya. She had a lovely elegant style and had moved to Turkey from Russia a few years ago.

A view from our hotel terrace. We stayed at Niles hotel, a very cute and clean little hotel in the old part of town. Very near the Grand Bazaar, Orient house and Tram line to Sultanahmet.

And .. My newest Bella! With polka dots!!! *does little dance*
