Get Your Sexy On receives 4 1/2 stars from Romantic Times
I just received the first review for my upcoming release, Get Your Sexy On, from Romantic Times Magazine, and thought I'd share
Erotic Romance, Interracial GET YOUR SEXY ON Kimberly Kaye Terry 4 1/2 STARS
Terry has written another delicious tale of erotic interracial romance and suspenseful conflict. The sex scenes are scorching, sensual and leave nothing to the imagination. With a vivacious heroine and a true-to-life alpha hero, this believable story hooks readers from the first page and keeps their attention until the end.
Summary: Sienna Featherstone, aka Sinful Feathers, dances at a strip bar to pay off a financial debt. It's just a job, and she pays the patrons little mind — until she sees Mac. Just received the final cover for the first ever Spice Brief anthology, in which my short story, Come Back To Me, will be featured and thought I'd share
The anthology is scheduled to be released March 2009 from Harlequin Spice~~
In my writing, I try and write true multicultural/racial, characters. Usually my heroines are women of color, black, and my heroes are of a different race. I don't focus on the racial differences. I focus on the characters' journey.
I finished a book this year, where the hero was Native American (that was for Kensington) and the heroine black, and another for Kensington this year, titled Scream My Name, where the heroine was black and the hero a blue-eyed, bonafide cowboy. I really dig cowboys. .
Get Your Sexy on, my upcoming release, the heroine is Black and and the hero, white. I'm currently writing a thriller for Kensington where the heroine is black and the hero is Italian. Talk about fireworks...
I recently finished an erotic fiction--Auctioned; An invitation erotic odyssey, for Simon and Schuster, where ONE of the heroes was white and the OTHERS are... Hmmm. You'll have to read that one to find out what THAT is all about... (Which, btw, is up for pre-sale at Amazon! The cover isn't up yet, but, I do have it. Can't show yet until final approval...but dear god in HEAVEN it's a beauty! Here's the link at Amazon.com Auctioned )And, I just turned in a novella for Kensington, Make Me, for the next Satisfy Me anthology (this one is titled Satisfy Me, Tonight) where the hero was mixed race, although I really never went into what "race" he was. He was, in my minds eye, a beautiful blending of many. And hot as hell. My hero, Brice Anders, in Ridin' the Rails, was a big, beautiful african american man...who loved the HELL out of his woman. So, yes, I dig writing multicultural/racial books.
I absolutely LOVE reading books, all genres of books, where the book's characters reflect the true world we live in. A world where there aren't just blacks, not just whites, latinas, asian, etc. LOVE IT. Kinda hard to find that sometimes.
I've been asked a lot what is my favorite genre to read. That would be suspense/thrillers. James Patterson I puffy heart. I like suspense/thrillers for a lot of reasons. The chase, the tension, the 'who dun it' or if I know, 'why did they do it' aspect. I also like a good thriller with a colorful cast of characters.
You know, being a "good" or "bad" guy/gal has no respect of color. We're all flawed. In some way or another. Evil is evil, and good is good, doesn't matter what color or race you are. Although, I truly don't believe there is absolute evil, or good, except in some cases. Bascially, I think we come into this world and sometimes are dealt a bad hand. It's what we do with that hand we're dealt, that matters. Some deal with it well, grow, refuse to allow it to dicatate who they become, some don't or can't.
So. I'm CLEAR.
Before I explain why I'm clear, let me say, that after finishing each book, I always purge. Mind, spirit and body. I won't go into details on what that means. It's detailed. And complicated. And odd. I'll just say that I...purge. Trust me, you don't want to know the details.
I play around on the internet for a few days after the whole purging thing is over. I read blogs (only the ones that don't make me want to hurl) I go hunting down websites, cool ones like the ones that sell or talk about essential oils, aromatherapy, metaphysics, sex...hehe.
I also chat via email or instant messages with my gal pals, and go to links they send me. One sent me a link to find out what "race" I am. Well. I know that. Kinda. Sorta. Okay, maybe I've come to terms with my "race", what that all means, in my own way. I'll just say I'm a contented woman who is a blending of a few races.
And..I'm clear. I'm cool with that. I happen to think being clear is okay
You're clear!! Some might say you're having an identity crisis, others would argue you got it all figured out. For once you're someone who wont let themselves be stereotyped, and you're open to all kinds of new things. Usually you don't go by your culture, you do what comes natural. Also you if you're like me get really pissed-off and confused when someone tells you to Hang with your own people! because you really don't have people but that's good cause all people are YOUR people. Live clear baby, live clear!!
Why am I talking about pushin' it real good? I'll tell ya. Today I shall push and push and PUSH until I birthed Make Me. Nothing like some good old school Salt N Pepa to get me going! I have this song in rotation over and over and over in my ipod, as I write today!
I have one chapter left in this novella, and a girly like me is feeling exhuberant! This is the novella for the next Satisfy antholgy, titled Satisfy Me, Tonight...don't you just love that title? Hmmm....
Anyway, my plan was to be done earlier this week, but, as my little one (who isn't all that little anymore) started Summer vacation, I've been on mommy duties--park, swimming, zoo, sea world, you name it!
So, today I will finish my book. No two ways about it!! She's at a buddy's house and daddy bear is taking off work early to pick baby bear up after the play date is over to take her to gymnastics, (Btw, my baby bear is FIERCE on the balance beam!!) so I can finish up!
So, sing it with me ladies...Push it REAALLL good, and finish the book!
I'm going offline for a bit!I have a novella due June for the next Satisfy Me anthology with Kensington. I think this one is called Satisfy Me, Tonight. My story is titled "Make Me" *snicker* I also have my next full length, currently titled "The Sweet Spot" which is an erotic thriller, due not too long after, I think few weeks. But, I've started that one, so hopefully I'll make deadline without pulling out every single one of my locs
However, I am waiting for my cover for Auctioned; An Invitation Erotic Odyssey, the single title I have releasing with Simon and Schuster and Zane in February. After realizing that the magnificiently talented Keith Saunders of Marion Designs does the covers, I darn near tinkled on myself in glee, LOL! Keith was the designer for my book, Ridin' the Rails, as well as all of the early books from Parker and the man is crazy talented! We spoke on the phone earlier this week and it was fantastic, the input he wanted from me as well as his desire to give me the HOTTEST cover, evah!!! So, no doubt I'll pop back in when Keith sends me the cover to share it with you all!
Me and my new "sister" Mary B Morrison, aka Honey B...teehee
And I had a wonderful time. First off, I gotta give mad props to Ms. Beverly Jenkins who literally won every award I think, except debut author, lol!! And although I wanted to bop her on the head when she had an armful of Emma's and steal one…Teehee.. I restrained myself, but damn was it hard. Come ON, Beverly, up one of them awards, girl! LOL!
Beverly is a tremendous talent and I have nothing but love and respect for not only what she's done in the industry, but that she, along with so many trail blazing African American authors like L.A. Banks, Mary B. Morrison, Brenda Jackson and so many other wonderful authors, paved the path, so that authors like me are able to make it in this biz. Much love to you, Ms. Bev *big smile*
(I'd like to thank the wonderful Sharon McCalop for many of these photos!)
Okay, can I just say that the readers at Slam Jam are off the damn chain? Can I just say that y'all? LOL! I LOVED them, their outpouring of love was at times almost overwhelming! I was literally stunned when they would come up to me and scream…yes SCREAM "Oh my God, you're Kimberly Kaye Terry!" Yeah, I was feelin' the love, *BIG HUGE SMILE* The women who come to Slam Jam are amazing and wow…I'm literally still stunned at the amount of love I received from them!
Pics with me and some of my AMAZING readers! I fell in love with all of these ladies!
Talented author Laura Major, me and the lovely author, Savannah Frierson. To the right me and my GIRL, talented author Celeste Norfleet.
Author Moniquee Lamont and me. Tall and gorgeous...I wanted to smack
her, LOL! To the right, Monique, talented author Pamela Yaye, and uber sexy and the amazingly talented, Mary B Morrison
This is Roben, and yeah…Roben is simply the bomb! She told me she was my number one fan, and Ms. Roben I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support of me. Dating back to my first book, Love's Redemption, to my current release, Just Like Candy, and every book in between, I believe Roben knew my characters better than I did ;) At first I admit I did think of that Stephen King book, was it Misery? And thought...damn, I don't want Roben to hobble me if I mess up and kill off a character, lol! But, she assured me that she would be nice and loving toward me...as long as I kept on writing it hot. If not, well, there MAY be consequences and reprecussions. Hmmm...should I be worried? LOL! Just playing. Roben was wonderfully normal, I'm the nut!
I conducted a workshop titled, Hot with Plot, how to write sizzling hot romance with strong plot and invited Mary B., aka, Honey B, to join me. You see, Mary came to the conference and yeah…we hit it off BIG TIME! People were asking us if we were sisters, lol! Probably had something to do with the fact that everywhere Mary was, I was and everywhere I was, Mary was! Mary is not only an incredibly talented author, she is also one of the most genuine women it's been my pleasure to meet and hang with. Hangin' with her was like hanging with my own sister, and meeting her, as well as my beautiful readers was THE highlight of the conference for me.
Mary made it truly special for me in so many ways.
*Kisses to you Mary*
Shot of Mary's intimate session.
My readers sessions were filled and I had a great time interacting with my ladies! I also had an intimate session with ten select readers, and LORD did we have a divine time! We were all laughing and at times giggling like naughty school girls, lol! They had to kick us out of the room to make us leave:
So, yes, I had a fantastic time and I'm so glad I went! I look forward to seeing my ladies again, in the future…y'all ROCK and made me feel special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Me, Emma Rodgers, Mary B (okay so she's Honey B here,*smile*) all decked out for the Emma Awards
And last but definitely not least, thank you, Emma Rodgers, for which the award was named after, for being such a trailblazer. You. ROCK.
WOOT! Okay, this is my first Romance Slam Jam and a girly like me is pretty darn excited about it! I'm scheduled to give a workshop titled, "Hot With Plot; how to write erotic romance without sacrificing a strong plot." I'm also going to be doing two reader sessions, a large one and the other an "intimate sessioin" which sound so cool! Deatri King Bey (fantastic content editor as well as good friend) told me at at the large one, there is seating for 75 people, so yeah, that sounds cooool, lol! The intimate session is ten select readers and me, which is going to be wicked fun. And as I mentioned, two of my books have finaled in "best of", Big Spankable Asses for best anthology of 2007 and Ridin' the Rails for best steamy!
So, a few of my gal pals and I (A.C. Arthur and Gwyneth Bolton) have been chatting about it and A.C mentioned she was going to be giving away a C.D. of music at her reader session. OOOOOH...I think I shall have to steal that idea, hehehe...I had planned to have a little "game" and the winner would win a cool door prize, a gift basket with my books, some fun sexy things I cannot mention, lol, candle, my own patent pending "coochi fan", you know, for when you're reading one of my books and hit a particularly...hot spot, you can fan yourself , a bunch of nice promo items, etc.
Well, don't tell A.C., but I'm going to burn a C.D of some sexy old school and new flavor music to add to the basket! Yeah, I'm stealing the idea. But hey, friends who steal from each other, stay with each other. Isn't that how the saying goes? Ooooh, I'm going to bust hell wide open as my Big Momma used to say, for saying that, LOL!
No fears, for those who come, I'm also going to give each audience member a few items as well, definitely one of my patent-pending coochi fans
Going off line, so I'll see you in a couple of weeks, and if you come to Chicago next week for the Romance Slam Jam, make sure you come and see me!
Keep it sexy!
~KKT
This woman's work by Maxwell...just cuz he's sooo damn sexy. Hmmmm....
I am home safe and sound from the Romantic Times Booklover's Convention and in a word…it was AWESOME!!
Okay, I'm beyond tired, and in less than two weeks I head off to Chi-town for the Romance Slam Jam, where I am a finalist in three categories!! Big Spankable Asses for best anthology of the year, Ridin' the Rails, for best steamy, and my cover for Ridin' the Rails is a finalist for best cover (woohoooo!!) I also have last minute edits due in to my editor at Simon and Schuster for Auctioned, by the end of the week, lol! So, as much as I'd love to go into details about the conference, I can't right now…BIG WHINE! However, I wanted to share a few highlights, as well as a few pics.
The conference, in my view, was simply fantastic. In all honesty, I know some will say it's a big ol party, but, it's so much more than that. Yeah, there were parties, fun times and lots of drinkin' goin' on in the evening, lol. Check out this pic of me and my girl, Vivi Anna, who is not only my best friend, and partner in crime, but also helped me to pull together the panels, the planning of it over the last year as well as being there as my co-facilitator for all four panels during the workshops, and without her help, well…the girl is the BOMB! Vivi and Kim, gettin' the party started right...and like the true divas we are, we started early. REALLLY early...hehe
The panels in the convention were absolutely fantastic and the networking was fantastic as well. However, I want to talk a bit about the four panels I was genre captain and moderator for: 2 AA panels, one with editors, the other with authors, and 2 Multicultural panels, one with editors, the others with authors. One word. DY-NO-MIIIIIIITE!!!
Authors: L.A. Banks, Caridad Pineiro, Marjorie M. Liu, Ann Christopher, and me, standing. Umm...what's up with my left eye?? I look possessed. Hmmm...I think I like it
Authors: Standing, left to right, Maureen Smith, Gwyneth Bolton, Brenda Jackson and me. Sitting: Kelli Martin, Sr. Editor, Harlequin Kimani and author A.C. Arthur. My eyes are normal looking in this shot. Darn it...
It was standing room only in all four panels, and the information shared was simply off the chain! I was blessed to have panelist that were funny and engaging, as well as being fantastic speakers who were all willing to share information! And might I add, that the audience was a beautiful rainbow of races. I stood there looking out at them, black, white, asian and Latina…all shades and hues, and man…it was awesome.
The editors rocked, and gave the skinny on what they want (and they WANT MORE MULTICULTURAL/AA manuscripts!!!!!!!) The editors gave the best information, and in fact, the editor from TOR, Jozelle Dyer gave my audience a special surprise. Teehee…I can't share that one, cuz ya had to be in the audience to be a recipient. *big smile* Kelli Martin, the senior editor for Kimani Romance, I have got to send a special warm shout out for! Kelli missed her first flight and called me upset and a bit frazzled, so worried that she was going to miss her panel! Minutes before she was about to board her flight, the passengers were informed that the plane was "un-flyable"! I said, "Girl, better you know now, than when you're in the air!" LOL!
Kelli Martin arrived mid-way through the first editor panel and looking gorgeous and not the LEAST bit as crazy as I would have looked after going through what she did, she joined the editor panel, and I invited her to sit on the author panel as well. Kelli was fantastic and again, shared some wonderful information about Harlequin Kimani, what direction she would like to take the imprint and strongly invited the attendees to submit! *big big smile* (editors were from Harlequin, (Kelli Martin and Linda Gill) Kensington (my fantastic editor, Hilary Sares), Ellora's Cave (Raelene Gorlinsky), St. Martins Press (Monique Patterson), Tor (Jozelle , Samhain Publishing (Angela James)…and yeah, I know I've said it over and over and over…but they rocked. They were some bad mamma jammas…shut yo mouth!HA!)
Is it me, or are my locs looking particularly lush in this picture? Sorry, on with the show...Editors, L-R, Raelene Gorlinsky, publisher, Ellora's Cave, Hilary Sares (my fantabulous editor), Kensington Publishing
The authors. Wow. They were fantastic! Every single one of them.L.A. Banks, who is an amazing panelist, had the audience in stitches laughing at times, as well as breaking out their pad and pencil scribbling down the wealth of information she willingly shared. Caridad Pinero who, like Leslie, is incredibly funny, articulate, and gave it to them chica style and all the other amazing authors, all the information given was like an early Christmas present to not only the audience, but for me as well!Every author on the panels (L.A. Banks, Caridad Pinero, Marjorie M. Liu, Gwyn Bolton, Ann Christopher, A.C. Arthur, Maureen Smith, Camille Anthony) simply did a fantastic job and I humbly thank them all from the bottom of my heart for freely sharing their wealth of information, giving advice, and all they did, with the audience.
Authors: L-R--Talented romantic suspense author, Maureen Smith, and the NYT, USA today fantastic author, Ms. Brenda Jackson and Me
Now, as I said, I am on a serious time crunch, however, I will come back and share more info later, because I think it's very important that this information be put out there. I've "heard" it said that there is no place for those of us who write multicultural/multi-ethnic romances. Bullshit. Sorry, but sometimes ya gotta speak plain, lol! You can not complain that "they" don't want you and you don't attend. It takes getting out there, mingling with editors, publishers, your peers, and awesome readers, and the way to do this is by going to conferences! Not at one time did I ever feel as though I was not wanted, in fact I was welcomed by the readers and industry professionals just like anyone else. L.A. Banks said something that truly spoke to me, something I feel strongly about and agree with wholeheartedly: Go to conferences. Go to events where your readers are. Get new readers and greet the ones you have, and do the damn thang (that last part I added, the whole "do the damn thang,"
I was asked why am I involved in doing what I do for this year's as well as last year's (as well as next year) Romantic Times Booklover's Convention. I am not doing this for any self promotion. Although I am a promo hussy of the first order, Teehee…honestly, in all seriousness (which is really hard for me to maintain for long, giggle) I do this because I love the genre and particularly because I want more authors of color to feel there is a place for them. I want to do my part in the way I do best, panels and planning, workshops, etc, in trying to help others see this. Nothing more, nothing less
Okay, so I'm offline again, for a bit, to finish working and prepare for the Romance Slam Jam Conference. But, I'll leave you all with some fun pics from the conference!!!
