Mr. Angelo Spencer is playing the same day from 2-2:30 on the Cobra Stage.

Remembering Aaron- A Special NYC Show TONIGHT
***Tonight*** Wednesday July 2nd kIMYA DAWSON PALEFACE GRAHAM WILKINSON AND THE UNDERGROUND TOWNSHIP LEVY with Beau Johnson and Amos Torres playing songs too! at The Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 N. 6th between Wythe and Kent in Williamsburg) doors at 8pm under 16 admitted with an adult $20 donation to the Aaron Wilkinson Memorial Playground at the Bridgeport Camp for kids from low income communities and kids with special needs.

"Aaron Robert Wilkinson was born on November 8, 1976 in Englewood, Colorado and died on July 2, 2003 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the first-born, most precious son of Dennis and Linda Wilkinson, cherished and adored brother of Graham and Sarah, and beloved grandson of Alma Thompson."
And he was my friend.
I met Aaron when he moved to New York and started coming around the open mics at Sidewalk Cafe and The Raven. We all called him Cowboy. He had these sweet songs and this charming personality and he won just about every single person over.
Including my mom. He came to a number of community BBQs at my parents place and always sat in the kitchen with my mother and helped clean up. She was very impressed by his kindness.
In the fall of 2001 we were scheduled to leave on a big US tour with the Strokes. Adam got tendonitis in his wrist, so we needed someone to play acoustic guitar for the tour. We asked Aaron. He and I whipped up a quick costume for him. A fur vest with no shirt and a red and white gingham skirt. That, together with his inherent dudeliness and his long blond dreadlocks, was perfect.
Then on September 11th The Moldy Peaches album was released. And the towers fell.
We decided to go on tour anyway. We all needed a little distance from the craziness of New York. And figured people everywhere could benefit from having a fun fun show to go to.
On one of the first nights of the tour someone smashed one of the windows to our tour van and stole my acoustic guitar and the bag with Aaron's journals in it. We were so upset and angry. We got paired up in the hotel that night, because no one else wanted to deal with our freaking out. We turned on the tv to the endless stream of news footage replaying the collapse of the towers. And we just cried. We talked all night about friendship and family and life and love and what is really important. We talked about emotional attachments and the physical attachment to material possessions. We talked about money and stuff. About how stuff is stuff. It's just stuff. We can run out of money and we can lose our stuff. But what is important is the connections we make and our ability to love ourselves and the people we meet and stay grounded, in the face of all kinds of challenges. That night and that conversation were a crucial step in me becoming who I am now. I was just shy of 2 years sober then. I was vulnerable. I still felt broken. That experience and the friendship that grew that night helped me to become stronger.
And the rock continued.
At the end of the tour Aaron parted ways with us to go on with his songs. He had a couple of them that still reduce me to tears whenever I hear them. We stayed friends. He moved in with Paleface and we would have slumber parties. The 3 of us, up all night, eating popcorn, watching videos, and giggling like little girls.
Good memories.
I was in Birmingham UK, at the house of the kids from Misty's Big Adventure- on tour with the Misty's, Toby Goodshank, and the Larval Organs- when I read on the Olive Juice Message Board that Aaron had died.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Going into the other room and having to tell everyone. Being so far away from our friends. Trying to play that night. My friend Scotty Jurnegan had passed away on June 10th that same year, just a few weeks before. I wrote my song It's Been Raining the day I heard about Scotty. I remember trying to play it, and Anthrax- which I had written for Aaron- that night, but just breaking down. I remember it like it was yesterday. But it wasn't yesterday.
It was 5 years ago today that Aaron left us.
5 years. Jeez louise.
And I miss my friend.
Over those years I have grown close to his family. His parents, Dennis and Linda, have strength and beauty and kindness and compassion in the purest form. They are honestly some of the sweetest people I have ever met. I have laughed and cried many times with Sarah. And Graham is my buddy. I have stayed with Graham and played shows with Graham. And just been plain old silly with Graham. We have had our share of shared tears too, but mostly good old times.
It's funny how it happens. Out of the darkness there is light.
And friendship grows. And memories are made and kept in our hearts. And stuff is stuff, but good friends are with us forever. As long as we talk about them and sing for them and keep them alive they will always be with us.
And that's the shit that matters.

what happens next...starting tonight...
So, I didn't die. Thank you for all your encouragement and positivity. Yesterday I got my first pocket sized sculpture of Danny Devito in the mail after YEARS of requesting that someone make me one. Sigh. Life is good. I am glad I didn't die before I got my little clay Danny.
Yesterday I met a real grown up child star on the interweb. One of my favorites too. I am not going to tell you where on the big wide web. And I am not going to tell you who. But it is awesome. Awesommmmmme.
My nose is full of mites and dander and springtime. Can't stop sneezing. Nothing the Neti can't flush out. Must go Neti. Because every time I sneeze I pee a little. Thank goodness for THESE LITTLE GUYS.

we need to talk
Hello from the sunny Alps. Panda is asleep. Ange went with François, Alex, and Remi to see Indiana Jones. I am trying not to freak out. A girl posted a comment on here a few days ago that she read on Wikipedia that I am going to die tomorrow in a plane crash. What the fuck?!!! So when I head out bright and early tomorrow to fly to Amsterdam do I think "Oh those crazy kids and their jokes!" Or do I consider it a serious threat and notify the authorities? I think it must be a joke. Who would take out a plane to wipe me out? The CIA? Huggies? They wouldn't post it in premonition form on Wikipedia. Shit. Would they? Fucking Huggies man. I turned down commercials for Huggies and McDonalds recently. Oy vey. We are using Moltex compostable unbleached disposables on this trip, and believe you me I can't wait to get home and rub some sweet organic bamboo velour diapers all over my face. I did bring my tie dyed organic bamboo velour pads and pantyliners with me, but I don't rub those anywhere but the craw. And I don't even really rub them there. Just gently ready the wings for the ensuing bloodbath on Granny Panty Airlines. Speaking of McDonalds, I am reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It's about eating locally. It's really good so far. I'm still reading chapter 2: Waiting for Asparagus. I fucking love asparagus. Speaking of commercials, I guess by now many of you have seen the silly commercial for the Atlantis resort. Sigh. Thanks for the outpouring of concern, but no we were not ripped off. No one is getting sued. I have always been very much against having my music in commercials. My solo music. With the Moldy Peaches it is tricky because it isn't just me. I do say no most of the time, but every once in awhile I have to be willing to compromise and be a group member and not a total control freak. A couple years ago we did that French cell phone commercial with all the soccer balls. This time I agreed to the resort going poor mans Weird Al version of Anyone Else But You. I figured if I am going to be a team player I am going to feel least like beating myself up if the words and voice are not my own. It is just our melody. We were not involved in the rewrite. Anyway, dolphins schmolphins, it's done. I bought my parents a car. So it goes. If you hear my solo stuff in commercials it was ripped off. I used to say I would only let my (solo)songs be used in commercials for hugs and breastmilk. Lately I have considered bartering jingles with WAHMs (work at home moms) for their awesome handmade stuff. We will see. I like mom's stuff. Hmmm. So yeah, I have been in contact with some girls who have lost their mom's recently. So I am making a public service announcement right now...MOMS: STOP DYING PLEASE. Your kids can't take it and I don't know how to help them feel better. And to the Wikipedia bandit...PLEASE don't blow up my plane. My baby will be on that plane. And if you were only joking. Please dont make jokes about me dying in ways that will also mean my baby will die. Beyond not funny. Mamas don't take that shit lightly. I don't care if you don't like me. Leave my family out of it. PLEASE. Oh and speaking of AssKickin Mamas...I am doing a short tour in July opening for Ani DiFranco on the east coast. More on that real soon. For now...

Been there done that and Here we come!!!!
So we (me and Mr. Angelo Spencer and little Miss Panda) just got home the other night from our whirlwind 2 month United States tour! It was incredible! We got to play shows, do stuff, and hang out with Jeffrey Lewis, Jack Lewis, Herman Dune, Tiny Masters of Today, Schwervon, Karl Blau, Patsy Grace, Paul Baribeau, Paleface, Midtown Dickens, Spoonboy, Erin Tobey, Matty Pop Chart, Underthrust, Good Luck, El Olio Woloff, Metal, and Mecca Normal (and probably others I am forgetting). You should look all of these people up. They are all amazing. It was a dream come true. And in SF I got to play all the songs from Alphabutt with the kids from the album!!!! Sophia, Macalaster, Amani, Jason, Ange, and Panda all onstage with me!!! AND for a bunch of the tour I had one of bestest ever friends Matt Tobey as my band. Holy Smokes. I am a lucky girl.
And it may seem like I forgot, but this band needs a paragraph all to themselves. The second month of the trip was with our dear, sweet friends L'Orchidee D'Hawai. Holy shit. They blew my mind every night and were wonderful travel companions every day. And an awesome backing band on a couple of my songs. Panda misses her four funny uncles already. (They have a REALLY good photo slide show from the trip on their profile).
I took a lot of pictures too, mostly of all the good playgrounds we hit. I will do a photo post another time. And, oh man, we got to see so many good friends, and so much family along the way. I will post one picture of Panda and her cousins in Colorado. So good! Those boys are big. Some of you might remember when the twins were brand new and little Emerson was sooooo sick and we all thought good thoughts for him! Look at him now!!!!
Emerson, Charlie, Jaden, and Panda

So, yeah, here is the info for the upcoming stuff. I am sorry there is not much stuff in Europe. We have a lot of family and friend visiting to do in the time over there. When it looks like off time on the tour schedule we will be busy with Papi and Mimi and Great Granny and Baby Zoe. Sweet baby Zoe!!! . ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, IRELAND
