sarah coo-coo crazy pants...
Current mood: confused

Sarah Palin scares me.  She scares me a lot.  Here are some things you may not know about the woman who is a heartbeat away from becoming our President should John McCain be elected.  And I won't even get started on why John "Maverick" McCain AKA Mr. Indecisive scares me…what a weasel.

-         Until last year, Sarah Palin had never traveled outside of North America.

-         She wants to take Polar Bears off of the endangered species list so their habitat is no longer protected and we can drill for oil in the Artic Circle virtually wiping them out of existence.

-         Her only foreign policy experience is the fact that Alaska shares a maritime border with Russia, but she's never been to the country or spoken with it's leaders.

-         She had never met with a world leader until last week in New York.

-         She does not believe global warming is caused by man.  She thinks it is all a part of God's plan. Is she from outer space?!?!

-     She believes the resources of the earth are ours for the taking and we should aggressive and, if necessary, violently take what we believe to be ours until we strip the earth of all it's resources leaving nothing for our children or our children's children.

-    All of her interviews are full of statements that have no meaning, half of which don't even make sense, which is why the Republican campaign has kept her under wraps for as long as they have.  The way she deals with reporters with questions and her "mastery" of the facts is a poor reflection on small town America.  It makes her look small-minded and unintelligent.

How did we get here?!?!  Do we really want a self-proclaimed "lipstick wearing hockey mom" staring down and negotiating with powerful world leaders like Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?  Scary thought, indeed.

VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,

Kina

Vote Losers...it’s important.
Current mood: impatient

I am not advertising Barak Obama (although he's my personal choice and should be your's too), but voting is important, so no matter what your political views, if you're not already registered, please register to vote in this historic election and share this important message with your family and friends.

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Gandhi

Help your friends Vote for Change You'd be surprised by how many people you know who aren't registered to vote.

Registration deadlines are coming up soon, and we need every single vote we can get to win this election.

Tell your friends, family, and neighbors to check out our new one-stop voter registration website.

Just forward this message.

VoteforChange.com makes it easier than ever to register. Instead of tracking down the right forms, all you need to do is answer a few basic questions and you'll be ready to vote. You can also:

  • Confirm your existing registration
  • Apply to vote absentee
  • Find your polling place

If you don't know your own registration status or you'd like to learn more, take a minute to visit the site right now.

This race is too close and too important to stay home on Election Day.

If you take the time to register and vote -- and make sure everyone you know is registered as well -- we'll be able to turn the tide of the past eight years.

It's people just like you who will transform this nation.

Thanks,

Barack

Sarah Palin...just a Hockey Mom?
Current mood: anxious

This is for real, ya'll...and it's pretty scary if you think about.  Thought I'd share. They should have had Eve speak at the DNC.

"Drill, Drill, Drill"
Eve Ensler on Palin
September 5, 2008

Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer,  feminist and activist best know for "The Vagina Monologues"

I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last  night  that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles  and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears.
Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact  that they  live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.

I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist  and have  spent my life trying to build community, help  empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about  Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice  was all the
more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.

But everything Sarah Palin believes in and  practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story connected to saving the earth, ending racism,
empowering  women, giving young girls options, opening our minds,  deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country  chose those candidates the fall-out may be so
great, the  destruction so vast in so many areas that America  may never  recover. But what is equally disturbing is the  impact that duo would have on the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, this  is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the
inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.

Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as  a metaphor. In her world and the world of  Fundamentalists  nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She
does not  believe in global warming. The melting of the  arctic, the  storms that are destroying our cities, the  pollution and  rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan.
She is  fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered.
Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and  ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking.  From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently.  She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the
air.

Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's
name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.

I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of
the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and  diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence  through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from
dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of
 fear, fundamentalism and aggression.

If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke
at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that
force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone,  in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in
the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

Now that’s good eatin’
Current mood: hungry

I stole this from a bulletin post and had an idea.  I am always looking for new places and foods to experience, so please respond with your answers for your favorite restaurants and check back often to see what others have listed.  You might find out about some new places to check out.

What is your favorite place to go for......
1.
) Mexican food?
Mia's on Lemmon (yummy!!!)

2.
) Italian food?
I don't eat much Italian unless I make it myself, but if I do go out for Italian it is usually Carraba's, Terilli's, or Campisi's .

3.
) Chinese food?
I am not a huge fan of Chinese food, but if I am in the mood for it, I usually just order in from Snow Pea…only cause they left a menu on my door.

4.
) Thai food?

Thai Nipa on Lemmon

5.
) Vietnamese food?
Mai's on Bryan…their coconut curry clay pots are divine!

6.
) Indian food?
Taj Mahal.  I went there for Edi's birthday and it was so great.  Can't wait to go back again.

7.
) Pizza?
Fireside Pies!  But when the wait is long or it's late at night, I like Cosmo's – yeah I know it's a bar, but I love their pizza.  You can order ¼, ½, or a whole pizza, have a few drinks, and watch a bizarre movie while you wait.  What could be better?!?!

8.
) Latin food?
uhhh.  I don't know any Latin food places.  If you do, please take me to them.

8.
) Vegan/Vegetarian food?
I heart Cosmic Café, but the few times I have been to Kalachandji's it has been very tasty.  It might take over the top spot sooner or later and their patio is fabulous.

9.
) Salad?
The best salad ever has got to be the Signature Spinach salad at Cuba Libre.  It has hearts of palm, pine nuts, avocado, goat cheese, bacon…mmmm, bacon and you can add jerk'd chicken or bbq shrimp.  Delish!!!

10.) A good steak.....provided you're not specific to the restaurants in question 8?
Texas Land and Cattle's 7 oz. center cut sirloin is one of the best steaks I have ever had and their wedge salad is to die for.  But the chicken friend steak (no pounding allowed) at Tillman's Roadhouse beats all with it's juicy deep fried meat served medium rare with poblano white gravy.  Holy cow!!!

11.
) a burger?
Southwest Turkey Burger at Village Burger Bar in West Village.  You have to ask for a turkey patty instead of beef.  It is yum-o.  Order the sweet potato fries on the side.

11.
) lunch specials?
Mama's Daughter Diner on
Irving Blvd.  They have great daily specials every day.  The food is homestyle…just like mama used to make.  Lots of lard and love, but oooey is it good.   I love their meatloaf and their chicken tetrazzini. They have the best stew too, if you like stew and cornbread like I do.

12.
) sushi/yakitori/sashimi?
Sushi on
McKinney (goodbye – WAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  Sushi Axiom on Henderson is very good and quickly becoming a new fav.  The décor is beautiful and their rolls are unique and spicy!

13.
) ice cream?
Pacuigo...hands down.  Not technically ice cream, but it's all I eat when I am in the mood for something cold, light, and refreshing. Yurm.

14.
) Greek food?
Ziziki's

15.
)some kind of food that wasn't mentioned above, and what kind of food is it?
I can't name just one…
Ethiopian – Dallul on Inwood cannot be beat.  Cheap, filling, fun, and delicious.

Cajun – Alligator Café on Live Oak – if you haven't been , you must check it out.  Authentic and oh so good.

13.
) dessert in general?
Le Madeleine has some of my favorite desserts – Strawberry Napoleon, Chocolate Crème Brulee, Tiramisu, Berry Tarts, Cheescake…need I go on?

14.
) coffee?
Gave it up 6 months ago, but Gachet was my favorite place.

15.
) drinks?
Cosmo's is always easy and casual. Amsterdam Bar,
Meridian Room, Lee Harvey's and Quinn are favs depending on the day and time of year.

16.
) a first, or casual date?

Meridian Room - I am sure there are better places but I have had like 3 first dates there.

17.
) late night food????
Café
Brazil. A grill cheese sammich with a cup of tortilla soup will sober you up quick.  Their breakfast menu is really good too!

18.
) a great patio?
Matt's Ranchero in Lakewood

20.
) a fancy date?
Café
Madrid and Simply Fondue are always sexy dinner places.

21.
) a restaurant or bar that allows dogs?
Lee Harvey's is always a good choice, good food and sweet doggies, though I don't have a dog and therefore do not seek out dog friendly establishments.

In the words of Alton Brown "I bid you Good Eating".

I am Lindsay Lohan’s kin...
Current mood: mischievous

A proud day, no doubt, for my family. :-/  My first cousin Kristi Kaufmann (of the Bale clan) may or may not have had the love child of Michael Lohan.  Ashley is 13 years old and lives in Montana with her mom, my cousin who grew up in Houston.  I haven't seen Kristi in many years, probably before the affair and Ashley's birth.  My dad still sees his sister, my Aunt Betty every time he and my mother go out west they stop by for a visit.  It's weird to start getting emails and links from my family members linking us to the Lohans'.  Probably wouldn't be my first choice Hollywood family, but at least it's not the Spears'.  Good for a chuckle at least.  Check it out.  In the picture from L to R are: My cousin Kristi (pageant queen of the 80s, possible "other woman") Ashley (poss. love child who looks VERY much like the younger Lohan Ali), my Aunt Betty in the middle, Kim (my smarter, less pretty cousin who is a lawyer which is, in this case, pretty ironic) and Kim's daughter who does not add to the story and I don't know her name anyway.  Enjoy my fam's 15 minutes with me, won't you?
Here is a link but there are news stories popping up in most of the tabloid mags...

brand new top five...
Current mood: crunk

1. Working full time in casting rocks, even if I am so tired I could just fall over.

2. I get to go to set every day to work with mascots and little people.  It's the coolest, craziest job eva...only second to working with the purple dino.  Feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Why am I attracting costumed characters to my life?

3. [edit]

4. I am planning a "real" vacation after the shoot wraps.

5. Prince Charles' Croquet Party is just around the corner.  Memorial Day is one of my favorite days of the year.

TIP-TOP FIVE
Current mood: DRIVEN

Things are happening so fast, it has my head spinning.  So I thought I would do a top five and share all of my good news.

  1. Barney and Friends called and not only are they coming back this fall to do 70 episodes (that's about 4 years), but they want me to do all of the principal casting this summer in addition to extras casting. Yay!

  1. I had my first production meeting for the feature film I am doing extras casting for this summer and they offered my quite a chunk of their $million$ budget for my services.  Sweet!

  1. Next Friday I leave for the Bare Bones Intl Film Festival in support of the film "Soul Flyers".  It will be a good time despite...blah!  It will be fun.

  1. I have a college reunion of sorts planned with some old friends in Stephenville the first weekend in May.  Can't wait to revisit my past.

  1. My kid sis, Rina, graduates with her Bachelors in Marketing the second weekend in May.  I am so proud of her…she's a smarty.  And I am ready to go home and see my family and snuggle my new great-niece.

It's been a good week.

"Parts" is awesome!!!
Current mood: bouncy

We had a great turnout at the "Parts" premier last night at AFI...packed house!  I am so excited about the future of this film.  It’s good...really good.  I knew it would be but it’s great to see something turn out just the way you had imagined it in your head as you read the script.  The filmmakers spent a lot of time and love over the past year in post production and it showed.  Everyone loved it!  And during the Q&A Scott, the director, thanked me for my casting efforts and pointed me out in the crowd.  It was all very nice.  Hope to work with him and his crew again someday soon.  Saw some old friends and made a few new ones.  A successful night, indeed!
