Cross-eyed Slut review by Elektrauma

CROSS-EYED SLUT - ROUGH |
Und dann „Spurs In My Back": typischer Hardcore, Gegröle und typisches Drei Akkord Geschrammel. Also doch „Rough".

PCP - "Cross-cutting..." review vy Gothtronic

Cross-Cutting in Cold Frames
|
|
..>

<< Back |
Perception Cleanse Perception is a US coldwave industrial project of K.J.Cazier who was also active with Little sap Dungeon. PCP introduces an industrial sound very much based on the sound of the '90s on Cross-Cutting in Cold Frames, with songs in various different styles such as aggro-ebm, US industrial, hiphop, punk, ambient and breakbeats. PCP has collaborated for this with various other unknown artists from the Salt Lake City area, such as Uncle Shame, Little Sap Dungeon, Boundless and Ibex Throne. Next to social-political criticism in the lyrics and quality industrial there is a healthy amount of tongue in cheek humour and self-criticism in PCP's approach. The album sounds like a musical playground with songs in all sorts of styles that all play a part in the live of adolescent alternative youth. 'Our Graves' and 'Behind The Asylum's Walls' are aggro-ebm, 'Newsbreak' is US industrial, the Dead Kennedys cover 'Kinky Sex Makes the World Go Round' sounds like a story told by some sort of redneck. 'This Town Can Kiss My Ass' is electropunk, 'The Effect' and 'The Proces of Elimination' contain rap and remind of bands like Consolidated. Do not expect a consistent record, yet a raw and very nice record for everyone who likes variation in industrial themes.

Empty Rooms Breathe Heavily

<< Back |
Sometimes you'll discover a real gem in the current hausse of dark electro industrial bands. Little Sap Dungeon is such a gem. They have a complex dark sound which is remiscent to that of Velvet Acid Christ. Influenced by horrorthemes and gloomy atmospheres, Empty Rooms Breathe Heavily has atmospheric soundscapes as well as hard-hitting industrial beats. This cd has two new tracks of Little Sap Dungeon with 'Behind the Mask' and 'Empty Rooms Breathe Heavily' that really deliver. These two could easily match the better atmospheric tracks from VAC. This album is a remix album and this is their goodbye release after some 10 years in which Little Sap Dungeon was actove but unfortunately never got picked up by a bigger label. They have been wrong, since their music is very good and also has the potential to sell well when promoted properly. Unfortunately this never happened. Empty Rooms Breathe heavily has remixes by respected industrial names such Mick Harris from Scorn, Ultraviolence, Boundless, Circuit Surgeon, Synaptic Defect, Twilight Transmissions and PCP. This is not for the faint-hearted.

PCP - "Cross-cutting..." review by Side-Line
Posted on 15 Mar, 2007 - Bookmark at Del.icio.us .. google_ad_section_start-->PCP composes a mishmash of electronic styles starting with pure dark electronics and ending in a kind of hip hop approach. They here add a flavor of punk and there some industrial bombast. It feels a bit unusual to hear a kind of Eminem transposed into electronics, but songs like "The effect' " and especially "The process of elimination" combine influences of electronics and rap. I personally prefer the purer electronic style emerging on the cool "Descent"-cut and the powerful opening cut "Our graves". The less I can say is that PCP strives for a very personal approach in sound! www.backscatter.biz (DP:6)DP.

Soundwave Assassins 3 review by Elektrauma

SAMPLER - SOUNDWAVE ASSASSINS 3 |
Harter Stoff, Vorsicht, Explosionsgefahr.

Translation by Liz:
"When a compilation has a justified/authorized existence, only then can it present new and especially exciting material. This is what happened on Soundwave Assassins. That this compilation is not immediately comfortable might have already gotten around. Bands like Little Sap Dungeon, Diverje, and Backscatter Union speak a clear language. Gloomy electro, sometimes played with elements of deathmetal, is presented here. Anyone who does not want to reconcile with the world, will find here the right music to let you continue believing in the apocalypse. All of it together is very hard to digest, but a small taste is delicious, for all the people in the clubs with a fog machine and strobe light at full speed. Many bands that are not very famous yet, were given the opportunity to present two songs. It is admittedly not necessarily necessary, but it doesn't do the compilation any harm. 15 Hammer pieces are to be heard on the third part of "Soudwave Assassins". Sufficient material therefore to dance the soul out of the body. Hard material, caution, danger of explosion."

Soundwave Assassins 3 by Various Released on Dungeon Recordings More info: http://www.backscatter.biz/ Review Soundwave Assassins 3 is the latest in the series, which has progressed over the years. Originally a showcasing of various Utah acts, it now represents selections from Backscatter and Dungeon Recordings labels as well as two from DSBP Records. A real tribute to the electro-industrial genre, this compilation is filled with unreleased tracks including some from bands on hiatus.
After a quick intro, the track from Asseptic Room is an awesome beginning and my favorite track. Hard, brutal and with a great beat this track is excellent. We follow with two from Lexincrypt showing both sides of that project's sound: one being faster and beat driven and the other is slower with the same hard edge. Little Sap Dungeon presents their great hard edge. Next is an awesome power electronics remix of Diverje's "I Walk Alone". Next was another great track, this one a cover by Perception Cleanse Perception. Following this were two hard gritty industrial tracks from 23 Extacy, laden with guitars that give them a unique sound. Also quite unique were the pair of tracks from Roses of Exile: one a blend of faster electro-industrial and gothic vocals, and the second a slower and more plaintive sound. Symbiont comes next with a slower but hard track. Finishing it is the two sides of Boundless: one slower electro-industrial track, and the second an excellent faster dancier track.
Overall this is a good representation of what these labels have to offer. They cover the spectrum of the electro-industrial genre and are definitely not the hellectro mainstream that seems to be making its way around. My one complaint is that a few of these bands sound similar, but the whole album is still diverse (hopefully that doesn't sound too contradictory). I would recommend this more for the living room than the club DJ. If you like your music with a hard edge, you'll definitely love what these labels have to offer. | ..>

VARIOUS Soundwave Assassins 3
Label: Dungeon Recordings"Soundwave Assassins 3" is a compilation of 15 previously unreleased tracks from the respective Backscatter and Dungeon Recordings rosters.
Dark electro is what you'll find here, with some gems you won't find on any other recordings. As with this genre, the music is way too predictable and I found myself, at times, not entirely enthralled with everything I heard. However, there were some worthy contributions, two of which are the Boundless tracks, which were originally recorded for, but eventually left off of, the 2003 "Perpetual" CD. Little Sap Dungeon's "Nightfall's Prey" has an impressive intro on a track that is both percussive and atmospheric, and is also the band's last unreleased track. The most offbeat, and probably the most creative tracks on the CD belong to Roses And Exile, with the David Bowie goes electro vocals on "Vulture" and layers of ambient sound with a downbeat turn into darkened noisy corridors on "Desertion". Cool Godflesh cover too, Kevin.Michael Casano, 11 Dec 2006

PCP Cross-Cutting in Cold FramesDungeon Recordings / Backscatter
Posted: Wednesday, December 06, 2006 By: Mike Ventarola
Cross-Cutting in Cold Frames is harsh, abrasive, and in your face with apropos tracks delving into the desecration of modern life as we know it.
Cross-Cutting in Cold Frames can truly be hailed as angst for the thinking youth in our culture today. While it is apropos for most industrial music to stimulate aggressive emotions, PCP excels with delivering lyrics that are a snapshot of the world political scene as it has stood for the past few years under the Bush regime. PCP artist K.J. Cazier has stated in interviews that this particular CD is bipolar in nature, exploring random thoughts that he has had running in his head. After reviewing the music and lyrical contents, this CD is more like a piece of our modern history, beckoning the youth of today to wake up and realize that our freedoms are being encroached in Nazi-like fashion as blatantly examined in tracks such as "Our Graves," "Newsbreak," and the Dead Kennedys cover of "Kinky Sex Makes the World Go Round." Additionally, the ridiculous exclusive mindset that is a pervasive part of cliques within every underground and mainstream ilk is explored in "This Town Can Kiss My Ass." The remaining tracks delve into topics from outright lust to serial killer psychosis. On the surface, one could fluff this release off and call it a bipolar type of amalgamation of tracks. If one lives with the CD long enough and peruses the lyrics, a secondary body is unearthed that glaringly points a finger at how our world is being numbed and medicated into complacency. The vocals vehemently and literally shout how we are on the brink of annihilation and it is up to us to make significant changes before it is too late. The one drawback to the release is that the lyrics were not included with it; they are available on the label website. However, if there is a future second pressing of this particular CD, some thought should be given to including the potent body of lyrics. Harsh poetic thoughts that are this cogent shouldn't be left up to a chance discovery, particularly since many in our society ARE medically reduced to zombie-like fashion with blind obedience, as was pointed out in "Behind the Asylum's Walls." Cross-Cutting in Cold Frames remains true to form with the aggro-industrial beats that are sure to deliver the necessary angst to fans of the genre. PCP, also known as Perception Cleanse Perception, manage to give us more than the typical boot-stomping mosh pit mindless angst. In Orwellian fashion, he has purged his mind of horrific visions by correlating our current events and forecasting of our immediate future.

Little Sap Dungeon Empty Rooms Breathe HeavilyDungeon Recordings / Backscatter
Posted: Friday, December 01, 2006 By: Mike Ventarola
Little Sap Dungeon provides a sonic assault with the ability to knock down walls and fire up even the most timid of listeners.
Empty Rooms Breathe Heavily is not a gentle CD by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the opening track, "Behind the Mask" pounds relentlessly while suffusing harsh life dialogue just under the music. With an unexpected twist, the song becomes more nightmarish and cold, pulsing and percolating the beats to a frothy rise underneath until the full out assault is repeated. One could contend that the lyrics are the disturbing thoughts of a serial killer just before he makes his kill. One needs to bear in mind that this CD is nine songs cut in half to deter bootlegging. Initially, this may cause some confusion with some, but nonetheless, the CD plays out fully without interruption. The title track, "Empty Rooms Breathe Heavily" takes on a more stylistic horror movie soundtrack style at the opening. This tone of unknown and unseen fear is brought to fruition by the pervasive isolation that the opening of the track conveys just before it becomes more mid-tempo. "Doorway Dweller" is my pick for the track most likely to be chosen for an action film requiring manic intensity with a heavy dose of testosterone-laden angst. This particular remix gets the heartbeats pumping until the second half segues. "Goblin Corridor" is that one track that everyone can point to when they want to describe what "oontz-oontz" sounds like. Oddly, in spite of the episodic single wind instrument, there remains something subliminally sexual with this particular track. "The Children Sleep" incorporates the childhood fear of the boogeyman. Just underneath the belly of the nightmarishly constructed song, there is a warning about predators lurking to steal one's child as well. It is quite remarkable that the synchronicity of the lyrics lend themselves to be a simple childhood horror story, or something more sinister for adults to fear as well. Should another film be created about a serial killer who eats his prey, "Dinner Guest" should be the track that they include with the soundtrack. It is disturbing as it is vivid and fully functional on its very own to jar the imagination of most.
Overall, the lyrics to these tracks are definitely earmarked for horror film inclusion at some point in time. The lyrical imagery is harsh, bloody, and unrelenting. It is as though we were given a peak inside the mind of a serial killer during his most manic episode. In spite of the execution and delivery of the release, the fact that there remained a repetitive theme of murder didn't impress as one would think. There are many out there who prefer there music as harsh as humanly possible, thus this is the release for them!

Already the third compilation of this series which predecessors were mostly created for DJ's, press people and promoters to introduce or to give a deeper insight into the musically activities of the Salt Lake City area. Dungeon-Recordings and Backscatter again collaborated for this release, which will - thanks to the musically content – make a special mark into the history books of Electro/Industrial music. Lets have a look to the featured names – SYMBIONT, LITTLE SAP DUNGEON, LEXINCRYPT, ROSES & EXILE and 23EXSTACY – all this bands have lately quit their business or are in hiatus. The best is yet to come – all of them presenting unreleased stuff, outtakes or their very last recordings. Besides the above mentioned some more well-sounding names are featured here like DIVERJE, PCP, ASSEPTIC ROOM and BOUNDLESS. Of course also these acts present never heard before mixes, tracks and fit therefore well with the intention of this compilation. I can't find enough praising words of thanks to the both conductors, Kevin J. Cazier and XoN, to open the archives for the greedy ears of the fans hunting for unreleased stuff. After an instrumental intro tune the things start here with the Spanish act ASSEPTIC ROOM, which is signed to the DSBP label. You'll got a Dark Electro and danceable tune "Faith Without You" in a remix provided by the Argentinian act SUICIDE SOLUTIONS, also an up and coming new act to follow immediately. Follows then Justin Cameron aka LEXINCRYPT who provides with "Purjuress (Face Two)" and "Aftermath (Gutter Slut Mix by L.S.D.)" two unreleased versions of tracks placed on his debut album era "My Sepulture" back in 2003. Tasteful Dark Electro with that special thrilling effect – as usual from this act and I hope that Justin will decide one fine day to continue with his project. Dungeon Recordings' very own LITTLE SAP DUNGEON have to my surprise still a track in stock taken from their "Silent Entities" recording session. "Nightfall's Prey" is a typical piece of this act, maybe a bit lesser scary produced than the other tracks placed on "Silent Entities" – this might be an explanation, why this track got removed lastly. DIVERJE are also present and provide us their track "I Walk Alone" originally available on the last studio album "The Distortion Chamber", a collaboration effort between Tommy T. Rapisardi together with the already mentioned Justin Cameron. This track got remixed by the BLC Productions-recording artist THE PAIN MACHINERY from Sweden, turning this piece into a pulsating Powernoise assault. It is lesser danceable, but filled instead with crunchy rhythm patterns of the hardest kind – as usually provided by this act. PERCEPTION CLEANSE PERCEPTION is musically maybe one of the most diverse acts around and Kevin J. Cazier shows us his dedication to the works of GODFLESH by providing a cover on the track "Blind", originally designed for a tribute compilation, which never came to realization. We then have here two new tracks by 23 EXTACY aka Chris Alvarado providing that typical and chaotic Punk-inspired Crossover-Industrial with harsh and destroying guitar performances. Kevin J. Cazier has lately left this project, so also this act is in hiatus. And also ROSES AND EXILE's – Chris Alvarado's solo effort - existence is questionable and we have to see what the future brings. Comes the last ever recorded and sorely missed SYMBIONT track "Five Of Cups", which is a rather slow Dark Electro piece with the strong and remarkable melodic input this act is known for. So finally XoN's solo effort BOUNDLESS sets the last two pieces on this comp both designed for the BOUNDLESS debut release "Perpetual" back in 2003 – to me still one of the most underrated DSBP releases at all. You shouldn't expect another track of the quality of "Sordid Trouper" or "Unconscious", but both pieces "Infinitus Assuage" and "Repression" nevertheless do well and fit with that album stuff. A lot of valuable stuff to discover as usual on this comp series – let's hope and keep the fingers crossed that this collection of unreleased stuff doesn't mark the very last chapter of these quality and promising acts. Check our website here to discover several reviews and interviews with these acts – LITTLE SAP DUNGEON, DIVERJE, SYMBIONT, ASSEPTIC ROOM, PCP, THE PAIN MACHINERY, LEXINCRYPT – they are all here. Keep the machines warm and start your comeback – we need you back on track! |
