Ayo Techknowledgy...
Category: Blogging
Music, Books & Movies that influenced me whilst writing for ’CENTRAL’
1. Fugees - The Score
Yes, I’ve been carrying this timeless classic with me since age 12 (’96). I will love it forever...can’t imagine me not listening to it anymore... ’Clef has this line .. Or Not "but no don’t weep, wyclef’s in a state of sleep"... I always loved that line, I used to kinda sing that line over & over & over and now for Central I transformed it to "but no don’t weep, matthew’s in a state of sleep" (CREATIVE AIN’T IT??!!)... And let me also tell you this..L-Boogie is one of the best to ever do it..
2. Zach De La Rocha (Rage Against The Machine)
I love his energy & delivery..he also has one of the most recognizable voices ever. So there’s this one song ’Amber Satyr’ (title from a book by the way, you should look it up) where I’m trying to get my De La Rocha on & one of the first versions we recorded actually captured that vibe quite well. The final version became a dope song & Sarah (THEE SINGSTER) does some of that next-level-outer-space- singing on there.
3. James Baldwin - Tell Me How Long The Train’s Been Gone
Baldwin is one of my favorite writers & I think I own almost all of his books. One of those books is ’Tell Me How Long The Train’s Been Gone’... the main character is an actor ’Leo Proudhammer’who’s struggling with life (like we all do) but in the end overcomes & then looks back & tells his story..The reason why I like it so much is because it’s reads like an autobiography. There’s also a line on ’Amber Satyr’ where I mention it "feel like Leo Proudhammer, loading my ammo / Life is a battle from the womb to the tomb/ and everything in between is either nightmare or dream"..
4. Tv On The Radio
Return To Cookie Mountain blew my brain to bits...they are Gods.
5. Slam
That movie starring Saul Williams - The prison yard scene where he suddenly starts rhyming/reciting a poem.. that sh*t is so intense, everytime I see it, afterwards I just pick up my pen and notebook & start writing. Saul Williams is a great artist, if you haven’t checked out his last album..then damn it, check it out now @ http://www.niggytardust.com
6. Basquiat (the movie)
While I know the movie is inaccurate and more close to fiction than it is to what really happened..I can’t help but loving it (mainly because Jeffrey Wright is a GREAT actor)...plus I’ve got a major crush on Claire Forlani
7. Public Enemy
and if you don’t know..now you KNOW. When I got the music for the song ’Central’ I immediately started meditating on how to attack it..I was listening to alot of PE at the time. The result is not to be ashamed of...I call it "my Public Enemy song".
8. The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
that’s my bible...it is, it really is.
well, that’s it (for now)
Peace,
math (aka IslaSoul)

So the new Koala album is finished... It's called 'Central' .... I've heard about 85% of it ... it already sounds awesome ... I had tears in my eyes. I'm tellin' you ... when you are creating something, when you are part of a group of incredibly talented people (I humbly say so) ... and you see what you have created together with those people ... is The Most Beautifullest Thing (c) Keith Murray whilst listening I had butterflies, that nervous feeling you know... It's times like these that make you realize all the work you do, in the end..will be rewarded one way or another... I can't wait 'til people get to hear our new baby...

review LIVE walvisfestival
Recensie walvisfestival KOALA
Karel -Zorkel

KOALA *newsflash*
So here we are yet again with news straight out the dungeons of the crew who introduced you to "gravity" (incase you were getting tooo high off the music)
We've been busy with:
RECORDING NEW MATERIAL FOR THE BRAND NEW RECORD TENTATIVELY TITLED -CENTRAL- (It's supposed to hit planet earth in January 2008)
RECORDING MUSIC VIDEOS!!! "Virus" & "Overloaded" are the lucky two...and if you haven't yet..the other two (Dead End & Grim City) are still viewable on this here space or a youtube near you..
Speaking of OVERLOADED, that baby of ours is going to be featured on a cd from one of our last good radiostations "Studio Brussel" ('cause we won the cotdamn contest and were chosen out of trillions & billions others)...happy happy Joi Joi (pun intended).
Our -other- website http://www.koalasounds.net is still alive & kicking too, check it out, bumrush our messageboard, check out whatever we throw on there & keep coming back if you like it.
We also have some upcoming gigs, for now they're mostly in Antwerp but we'll be sure to play every place this country has to offer in the near future.
Salutations,
KOALA
