Last Hack Standing
The LCS people called Chances(where we were performing thurs night.) the night before and said they were sending a camera crew to the Dykes of Hazard show. we were surprised to get the call from the bar owner. we thought, "really, finally dyke isn't a dirty word!" we were stoked, they said they would be there by 8:30, for a 9pm show.
at 9:30 we realized it wasn't happening, and the anger started to fester. I mean, don't CALL us and tell us you're coming, right? I proceeded to shoot some liquor, damn it, I had done everything right the night before (sleep,no booze) all in anticipation for the little bit o air time. The next morning, hungover as hell and in the same clothes, Julia Stretch and I decided that at the very least, we needed to find out if they had, in fact called, or if it was a joke. We stumble to the line, and I ask for Rebecca (name given to bar owner day before) Lo and Behold, there WAS a rebecca, and she DID call, and they WERE supposed to come by, but she was really sorry that didn't happen, but she would be more than happy to try to get us in. Just wait here, she said. ANd we did. didn't move for two hours. Then rebecca came back (very sexy gal she was) and brought us right in and said "ok, wait here, we'll get you before a screener" which we did. Rebecca came back and said, "this late in the game, I can't get you onstage, unless you have a costume, or prop, (or something equally obnoxious)" BUT there is the FUNNY BOOTH! "if you can get something outraageous, I can get you onstage" I I thought about borrrowing a toolbelt from some construction workers, and then I realized I had given enough of my dignity to the process. julia and I hit the booth hard, made em laugh and were then informed that we would probably have the tour name edited out, as its not family tv friendly.
So if you see to lesbos with shirts blurred out and constant bleeps. thats us. screw em.

It's Buffalo, you'd fight too...
Not because it sucks, I actually love the city and the folks, but every year, about this time you will see it happen. Fights. In bars, In homes, Hell, even our hockey team has been ass whoopers the past couple of games. why, you ask? why are the people of Buffalo so ,well, angry?
it's very simple, It's COLD. And dark, and gloomy. It is a fact that lowered saratonin (lovely sun goodies) levels affect ones emotional well being. At this point it's almost March, and most people I know have spent a good portion of the past 2 months, either at their home, or at whatever bar is within walking distance of their home. Boozin, that ought to help make you happy, right? It's not a depressant......i mean..um... So yes, we fight. Sorry. Talk about it all you want, but really it's not our fault We live here, and we accept that mid to late february is going to be a doozy. As soon as the weather breaks, those who are punching each other will be throwing high fives at any one of our gorgeous summertime events...Until then. stick and move, folks, stick and move..

tag lines??
ok, so, I'm getting a webpage done, and maybe one of thosebanners for myspace, and the designer asked me if I wanted it to say anything...
I need a cheesy tag line..I've been coined comic daredevil, but I don't think that is it, so I thought I would put it out there for all you witty people to come up with a line to describe my comedy/me.......all considered..even the offensive...especially the offensive...

Artvoice, Best Of Buffalo
Current mood: yeah!
I am no way attempting to speak for the rest of Buffalo comics, but I just sent this email, and I suggest we all come up with something similar and do the same...these things matter in exposure and in order for our dear little jokes to be taken seriously
my email reads as follows:
I was just wondering if Artvoice ever plans on including comedians in its Best Of Buffalo yearly poll. In the past year, there has been a growth spurt in the comedy scene here in town with numerous local comics making a name for themselves, locally as well as nationally. The weekly open mic at Nietzsche's is about to celebrate a one year anniversary, a small feat, but a feat nonetheless, in a city that struggles to get comedy to catch on, at least downtown. In addition, local comics have produced national tours, two, to be exact in the last year. Which shows that the comics in Buffalo are not only talented performers, but are proactive in noticing the shift in the industry, and taking advantage of the DYI approach so prevalent in Buffalo. It's very difficult to build something, in this case a comedy scene, when local press doesn't even ackowledge that there are comedians in town. I ask for your consideration in this matter before the comics with the goods get the "I can't make it in Buffalo mentality and more of our talent pool shuffles of to Chicago, Ny or LA, where theire talent will, at the very least, accepted as a talent. Thanks Kristen Becker
I sent this to editorial@artvoice.com
feel free to do the same, let's try to get a little support for what we do!

Blogland diaries, Eileen this one is for you..
Current mood: amused
some of you have been following my battle with the nuclear guy, if not, check him out...
myspace.com/stevethenuclearguy
his wife, eileen, sent me an email (what did she think I would do with it?)
here it is:
TITLE: I'm not dragging your shit into my husbands blog..
it read:
But just for the record, I put the death announcement in because he was a beloved teacher and deacon that taught at my children's high school - and a lot of their friends have blogs here, it was a way to get them the info since many of them have moved away. But of course you wouldn't think of that, not having kids.
He didn't lose to Bauch and you know it, those things are all fixed - I was there at milestones that night and I thought you were pretty good, but you're not the pro you think you are, you have a long way to go too - its good to see you standing up for your buds but everyone is entitled to a bad night, just like the other guys said - so what the hell is your beef with him and with me? You don't even know us....

Sometimes a comic has their own perspective on things, Everybody is going to talk about topical things, right? How can you prove it's been stolen? Well, usually you have to connect the comics in question, with the original writer.
There's a special place for people who knowingly (and by knowingly, I mean with some awareness, the awareness one gains from laziness) steal bits.
I think they all end up in radio eventually, as morning DJ's for ( insert anoying dj voice) "WWYLD, the ZOOO's WILD MORNING SHOW!!"
Watch Joe Rogan keep it real with Carlos Mencia about stealing jokes..LIVE infront of an audience at The Comedy Store....It should happen more often

Buffalo, be proud!
Current mood: gushing with pride!
Category: gushing with pride! Travel and Places
Last night, we had planned for our usual comedy night @ Nietzsche's Weather being what it was, we weren't sure if our guests from TO would be able to make it down, But loyal comics that they were, they gave it a shot. Here's what TO comic JP Naphan had to say about the trip, and the room you guys (comics and audience alike) make happen here in buffalo:
Thank you very much to Kristen who patiently kept the show going with optimistic hopes of our arrival in Buffalo. Definetly excellent treatment I wasn't expecting. I'm speechless about this kind of hospitality in a way to not say anything more or its gonna come across as too saccharine.
But yes that storm kicked our asses all the way there. It took us three hours and change to get to Buffalo in white out conditions. A lot of comics reading this are saying " for an open mike?" but a lot of comics haven't done that room yet. That room definetly makes my favourites list of rooms to play in Canada and states nearby* and its worth the efforts albeit death defying....... The atmosphere will inspire enough improv to make it worth your investment in new bits. Its got the old Lenny Bruce feel and I think I overheard the gentlemen say it was once used for vaudville back in the day Eleanor Roosevelt snuck a peek at black dudes and thought about it deeply in private.
I look forward to making the trip back real soon. Its some fuckin awesome crowds there. No wonder there were so many rebellions back in the day in that country.
*Nietzsches, the rowdy hillbilly crowds at One Eyed Jacks in Calgary, Old York, Hamilton Yuk Yuks downtown in skidsville, Ajax Yuks in the old days and Betty's on a good night. Thats my favourites list so far ..
So Buffalo. Be proud, we are few in Numbers, in both comics and rooms, and sometimes audience, But what we got ranks up there with some of the best. And if you haven't checked out a show, you should, It's cheap and full of everything Stand Up comedy should be.....

.................
Current mood: content
"Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. The very simplicity and nakedness of man's life in the primitive ages imply this advantage, at least, that they left him still but a sojourner in nature. To be awake is to be alive. Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. Every man is a builder of a temple, called his body, to the god he worships, after a style purely his own, nor can he get off by hammering marble instead. We are all sculptors and painters, and our material is our own flesh and blood and bones. Any nobleness begins at once to refine a man's features, any meanness or sensuality to imbrute them. Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth." -Henry David Thoreau, Walden, 1854
