Shawn Poirier, 1966 - 2007
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Salem Witch Shawn Poirier passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 18th, 2007. We ask for energy, prayers, and well-wishes that he has a safe journey into the next world.
Shawn was buried with his Witches' tools that he may continue to play his role in service to others for years to come. He was also buried with his beloved cat, Ka, who suffered from severe diabetes. Shawn's other cat, Mistopheles, is with Shawn's dearest friend, Leanne Marrama. Ka is an Egyptian word for the life force that kept the soul alive. Shawn's dear cat was so much a part of his life that it is a testament to their bond that they left this world together.
Festival of the Dead takes on a new meaning with Shawn's passing. We truly have confronted our own mortality and looked death in the face. The work that began in 2003 will live on in all of those who participate in this adventure into the spiritual unknown.
When people we love die, they become guides to us in the spirit world, able to hear our prayers and to ease our burdens. It is from this ancient spiritual concept that the idea of prayers to saints is derived. To each of those who mourn someone, we offer the suggestion of an altar in their home to the spirits of those you loved. Your own grandmother can be as much a force for you in spirit as St. Jude or St. Anthony. And when you remember those you loved on the other side, they will never truly die.
Blessings from Salem,
Christian Day

Pumpkins, Dinosaurs, and Witchery on Wall Street, oh my!
Current mood: happy
Greetings Darklings, I am going to catch you all up on what's been going on here in WitchTown. October was a whirlwind of magic, surprises, some tricks, but mostly treats. Smiling vistors and new friendship where forged this year making our Autumn Family a stronger and greater tribe or clan. Grins on faces, childrens summoning thier personal deamons, psychic fair churning the powers of possibility, Witches ,Warlocks, Devils, Vampires and dark imps of all kinds danced their way into the night! On October 31 a perfect peace profound settled on my covens as we gathered along the edges of Witch Town, to remember and reflect on those people and things who where lost to the previous years. The feeling was of brewing cinnamon apples and vanilla cake, as many very happy faces blessed by life communed. For the first few day of Cold old November most of us just slept , finally being able to nest in our homes and with eachtoher without the fanfare of many.Christian Day, my business partner and brother, finally took the well needed rest and relaxation we needed and headed to the warm sun soaked skies of Florida. Upon our arrival there, we where greeted by the balmy atmosphere of the tropics. We where refreshed by flower scented breezes, days filled with fun, paced adventures, and cool nights of elegant dinning and music recharged our psycic batteries and our perspectives on all our hard earned efforts in Salem MA. Christian and I braved the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park, made sense of out Seuss, and strolled throught various times and worlds!
The best part of any vacation is coming home with a renewed sense of purpose and drive. November was a blissfully quiet month giving us time to tidy our homes, set new plans for a new year and get ready for the season of winter. Winter for most is a time where most feel the drudgery of day to day living. However this year we had the holiday season to look forward to.... indulgently we gave our gifts, gathered with those we care about and once again sounded a call to our tribe to The Salem Witches Winter frolic where merriment , laughter, and the sparkling splendor of the yuletide season. Much dancing, feasting, reveling and covorting only reassured those present that we are indeed the Gods we serve! December time in full swing. Many of the Salem Witches gathered in our best suit and tie, evening gowns and cocktail dresses to relish in high style that few on the outside never see. Everyone was a polished star, shinning and radiant giving and recieveing the best we could.
Muggle New Years Eve, was a dizzying affair with lights, booze, music and dance... What more can I say !!!! Fun and wicked spirits flowed freely...( so did a a few hands and lips!) NICE! Time has just flewn by, our circles are strong, the bonds we forged with eachtoher like iron, and real life goals where manifest in plenty and abundance for all. January also whisked us to NYC for one of the most glittering affairs I have even seen. Witchcraft meets Wall Street, Park Ave Hotels, a swanky party that only Hollywood could compare to , horse drawn carriages, costumed revelries, and readings by the score where the fare served all round. Not to mention Kystal and Dom flowed like water in the NYC slice of heaven where Witchcraft won the hearts of many.
Now, in February return trips to both NYC and Florida are the order of the day. More teaching, more readings, more magic... Sheesh a Witch's work in never done! Well that's it for now.... Stay warm , stay well, and mostly stay just alittle wicked! Your Witch King bows to you.. Shawn

The Witches of Salem speak about inverted pentacles,Warlocks, and green faces. Let fact be known
Current mood: pleased
NO it never snowed in July, NO money doesnt just materialize over a dinning table in a local restrurant, NO there is no Blue fairy who bestows magickal powers, and NO for Christ's sake the fabled sword of excalibre is still lost in time and NOone has to date found it....lol Those who like to appear white light should not pull guns on students, should not curse the police, should not rip off various business, partners proof can be found in various court house papers, and those who follow people that do this should keep their mouths shut and stop rubber stamping the insipid "leaders" behaviors.A dying breed of hypocritical parasites will soon be gone. I have spoken.... It is done.
To those who whine, get a life! There are very few in Salem who adhere to the fabled interpetations of clouded wicca poo fluff bunny bullshit anymore. Here's the deal, Most witches love the green faced witch, as she has paid for her legacy in blood. The inverted pentacle is OUR STAR when we want to glory in the flesh, draw in money, have animalistic sexual fun we use it's powers. It is also a symbol of Mastery of Material world thus enabling the real witch to be more effective in the working of their craft. Are you willing to suffer to learn? And as far as the word Warlock goes, I as a male will not let an old guard of bra burning feminatzis who hate the thought of any man with power hold a title. Take away a persons name and you steal their soul. Male witches like it ,or not , are Here to stay and are indeed oath breakers against the dogmas and rituals of the Christian church...And I am goddamned proud of this.... It is our true hertiage. I personally have broken almost every oath that a man could make to the church and will continue to do so as their rules and oaths do not apply to me at all....not christian. lol The woman folk took the word WITCH and cleaned it up and now the Men folk like it or not are doing the same for the word used to describe them! This is how is goes in Salem now! Deal with it... A New Salem is Here! Read on to educate yourselves
1. The Witches of Salem love the image of the Green Faced Witch.
Halloween Witch Author Unknown
Each year they parade her about, the traditional Halloween Witch.
Misshapen green face, stringy scraps of hair, a toothless mouth beneath her deformed nose. Gnarled knobby fingers twisted into a claw protracting from a bent and twisted torso that lurches about on wobbly legs. Most think this abject image to be the creation of a prejudiced mind or merely a Halloween caricature. I disagree, I believe this to be how Witches were really seen.
Consider that most Witches were women, were abducted in the night, and smuggled into dungeons or prisons under the secrecy of darkness to be presented by light of day as a confessed Witch. Few if any saw a frightened normal looking woman being dragged into a secret room filled with instruments of torture, to be questioned until she confessed to anything suggested to her and to give names or what ever would stop the questions.
Crowds saw the aberration denounced to the world as a self-proclaimed Witch. As the Witch was paraded through town en route to be burned, hanged, drowned, stoned or disposed of in various other forms of Christian love all created to free and save her soul from her depraved body, the jeering crowds viewed the results of hours of torture. The face bruised and broken by countless blows bore a hue of sickly green. The once warm and loving smile gone replaced by a grimace of broken teeth and torn gums that leers beneath a battered disfigured nose. The disheveled hair conceals bleeding gaps of torn scalp from whence cruel hands had torn away the lovely tresses. Broken twisted hands clutched the wagon for support, fractured fingers with nails torn away locked like groping claws to steady her broken body. All semblance of humanity gone this was truly a demon, a bride of Satan, a Witch.
I revere this Halloween Crone and hold her sacred above all. I honor her courage and listen to her warnings of the dark side of man. Each year I shed tears of respect when the mundane exhibit their symbol of Christian love.
2. The Witches of Salem wear the inverted Pentcales, and work magic for self gain.
Meaning of the Inverted Pentacle: The inverted (or upside down) pentacle is a symbol of some reputation. It is typically associated with Satanism, though that is not a completely accurate description. The true emblem of the Church of Satan is the sigil of Baphomet, which is a symbol with a goat's head and an inverted pentacle. Within the world of witchery, the upside down pentacle stands for the 2nd degree in some traditions, suffering through the mundane to learn, and most importantly the presueing of worldly goods and power which in turn give the true witch more clout in the real world.
3. Men of The Witchs of Salem can call themselves Warlocks. ( as we are not all pussy whipped LOL)
The Warlock and our definition of him, has been correctly pointed out, the Oxford English Dictionary that defines the Warlock as a traitor or oathbreaker, and this is certainly true in two ways:
1. The term is Old English, and derives from about 600CE, which is when the monks were writing the books we now use as reference. There are no prizes for guessing why these Pagan terms were less than endearing. Any one who would not accept the new and true faith of Christianity was evil and dangerous. By equating those who did not accept the faith with evil, the new lords had the enemy firmly sighted. The old gods became the new devils, and the followers of the old ways were heretics and worshipers of demons. To follow the old ways was dangerous and guarded with secrecy. The Witches and Warlocks became separate from the general population, and followed their own paths. (Note : notice wiccans think it is ok to clean up the word witch here and give her a new face but not it not so for our men who indentify themselves as warlock to do the same thing. Fuck you Gloria Steinham!) lol
Again as has been correctly pointed out, the breaking of an oath was of extreme impo rtance at a time when a man's word was his bond. The making of an oath was done with great care and consideration. When faced with the annihilation of his tribe by the conquerers, the Chief has historically taken the option of surrender to preserve the clan or tribe. An oath taken by the clan leader for the surrender and saving of his people would only be broken in great reverence by the younger men of the tribe. Thus the term oathbreaker would be one of respect amongst the tribe, as these men left to fight against their conquerers. An example of this is Chochise who surrendered to the US Cavalry so that the women and children would be saved, but allowed the young warriors to leave under the leadership of his most able follower, Geronimo. However, what most people ignore (or are simply unaware of) is that the definition of oathbreaker is NOT the only reference to the Warlock, and indeed the Complete Oxford Dictionary has considerably more information.
A Warlock is also used to mean a cairn or pile of stones (in Scandinavian regions) which apparently served as beacons (lighthouses) or as markers of territory. Another use of the term meant that a man "warlocked" was magically immune to wounds inflicted by certain weapons (commonly iron), which developed into the idea of being War-lucked.
Lastly the term meant "to bar against hostile invasion". So a warlocked nation was one which was protected (by Warlocks) against invasion, rather than being embroiled in a war inside its territory. ( Sorry Laurie, no more causing divisions and manufactoring fractions within our community , as we will from now on call you out on it)
It must be acknowledged that much of research has shown that the Warlock was a warrior whose lifestyle was frequently violent and short. It is easy to either glorify his acts of valour, or accuse him of being a thug, revelling in bloodshed. What is more difficult is to recognise the middle path between extremes, and recognise that in the "Good Old Days" life was extraordinary difficult and frequently short; that violence was a way of life and death. Men and Women had very different roles to those of today, and indeed that may be good reason in itself to repudiate the idea of the Warlock. But I believe that in those days men and women were more secure in their roles. Women ran the household and indeed frequently were the owners of the land. Women probably had more power and control over their lives than they do now.
Since Christianity women have lost their land, their rights, their magic and their voice. Even today women have not regained what was previously theirs by right. Men were put into the position of controlling the land and all it contained. Remember the land given to the Christian Church was frequently given by the women, and that the Abbeys were often run by women. Only after the restructure of the Church did women lose all this to become the subjugated nuns to the religion they helped set up. The ones who did keep what was theirs became the Witches, and continued to heal, teach and act as midwives in the more isolated areas. As is happening in Nicaragua at the moment, the Witches were attacked for fulfilling the role which was theirs. In 20th centurt Nicaragua Witches are being taxed, ridiculed and oulawed because of the power and prestige they hold in the community (and because they are cheaper and more effetive than the "modern" doctors!).
We must recognise that the Witch and the Warlock are very old terms which have been tampered with by people with a vested interest in doing so. History is always written by the victor, but we have the opportunity to question and change peoples' attitudes towards us. We are Witches, and should not change our name because of outsiders' opinions. We have all - Witch and non-Witch alike - been subjected to 1000 years or so of negative influence. Now we have learnt the reality of Witchcraft, and take pride in it. If we refuse to acknowledge the name Witch, we accept that what has been written is true. The same holds for Warlock; just as there are some very dubious people misusing the words Witchcraft and Witch, so there are also people debasing the word Warlock. A Warlock is not some plonker doing ritual sacrifice and devil worship any more than is a Witch. Rather he is some one trying very hard to come to terms with his own inherent powers as a man. By denying him this right we deny all of the Craft their rights to work their craft in balance.
The important thing to me personally about this whole issue of Warlocks can be summed up as:
1. Whatever the word and its origin, the reality is how we use it now. Many words have changed their meanings over the years to become something totally different from the original. 2. Warlocks did exist. 3. Warlocks are not all satanists or figments of Hollywood any more than are Witches. 4. Being a Warlock is a legitimate title for a male Witch. 5. Witches and Warlocks are traditionaly outside of general society and each have their own special brands of magic, neither being inherently good or evil. For Witches to denegrate Warlocks as evil or deluded is very dangerously like using the same dogma that is trotted out by the fundamentalists. No-one can afford to point fingers or throw stones at each other.
And lastly for those who like pigeon holing people: I am proud to be an initiated Wiccan; a Priest of the religion; a Pagan; a Witch; and very much also a Warlock. Source material for part of this comes from http://www.boudicca.de/warlock-e.htm
I hope the message is very clear Salem has changed for GOOD! Wickedly yours Darklings, Shawn Poirier - Salem Witch King and all around fun guy!

Oct , NOV DEC, and much to come!!!!!
Current mood: warm/fuzzy!
Greetings Darklings! October was a flurry of wonderious phastamagoric images and memories. MY Witches and and Warlocks ruled the town bringing with them all the fun and mischief of October's Grandest Holiday! The month started with a weekend at House of Netherworld where we had a sovereign journey into a haunted wood only to meet up with the Headless Horseman himself along with assorted Living scarecrows, gargoyles, and ghosts who teased us into the darkest corners of victorian haunted houses and abandoned cornfields! The Annual Psychic fair was, full stream ahead, nothing or no one could bring this machine to a grinding halt! (We did have some psychic roaches come in but they were quickly squashed and thrown into the rubbish where they belong!) Our witches and warlocks along with Salem's best pyschics lit the way and healed many by revealing their past present and future to over 10,000 clients who came to Salem solely to meet our oracles.
The backdrop for our lives at this time of year was a bright and burning orange and red falling cascade of leaves from the ancient trees which line our fair city, clear moon lit nights shone upon our dark workings, and ghosts of all kinds aided us in our magical workings. Love spells where cast, blessings and hexes were flung with wild abandon, a children workshop on spirit conjouration proved most interesting, Salem First Witch Craft School - RavenMoon School of Witchcraft a major tradition now , as evidenced by those who recieved their certificates of completion in the occult arts.
The Official Witches Halloween Ball was so well recieved by the pagan/wiccan community that we had standing room only. The word Warlock has returned to stand beside his beloved Witch NOW free of all Christian hypocrisy and bigoted terminology! The Vampire Ball was a showcase of sexy, sinister sacrilege to arouse lust in all men, women, living and undead who where present. Ghost hunting 101 showed a shocked audience photographic proof of the murderious energies which once resided in the horror house of famed Amityville!
Our Halloween night proved to be a hallowed evening with many witches and warlocks who attended a private ritual. This past October was like none other, we even spurred "good ole" laurie cabot back into action from her long retirement!!!! All evil hob goblin and ill wishers where cursed and buried.... all those who deserved our love and kindness, were doubly blessed with peace profound, and much abundance! November, brought Christian and I to the sunsoaked skies of Orlando Florida for a five day excursion into a manmade paradise of R&R, five star gourmet meals, and lounging by hottubs, man made beaches, and blue topaz clear waters and one very sleazy but very fun "adult entertainment resort" Hotel! November continued with getting back to business, keeping time , and planning for next year and the Salem Witches Yule Ball called The Salem Witches Winter Frolic.
Thanksgiving was spent indulging in the finest feast at Terry Kalgrin's home. Dec thus far has brought in it's wings, magical coven sleigh rides, holiday shows, the returning smiles of many old friends! At The Winter Frolic a very large cross section of Salem's community joined our Yuletide Ball for an evening of wintery fun and elegance. The Salem Witches' Winter frolic sold out! All who attended loved the elegant atmosphere, fine food and great entertainment! All who attended donned their best looked like enchantment itself. All who attended left with a warm heart full of the milk of human kindness, warm toasty smile, and shared an embracing spirit for the many traditions that where present. Our fierce individual prowess and varied spiritual paths combined to make a mighty spell to keep and uphold OUR NEW SALEM!
All in all, as the muggle year comes to a close, dreams are being woven, the harvest is full, and the rewards are just starting to pour in!!!!!!! We will see you in February most likely for our Valentines Day event... where love holds rule! More to come... until then Darklings, I wrap you all in raven's wings. LOVE , Your Witch King, Shawn

Timelessness = stillness? stagnation? or purity?
Current mood: nostalgic
Whats this!? , as Jack Skellington would say?
I am in this very weird nostaligic mood, reflecting on life. The past twenty years has been one hell of a sleigh ride that I would not change. Faces fade in and out in the scrapbook of my mind, some are pressed memories of joy and love to be cherished while others are torn to be burned and thrown out. some faces are just to new to know, while others are so old , they should just go away and be forgotten.
I just rewrote my classmates.com profile... and put newer pictures up and realized that time moves on never stopping. There is a big lesson to learn here, Make the most to live fully everyday. Seize the chance to meet new people, try new things, take care of yourself and make the best out of what one has.
After looking at my high school peers I have come to the conclusion that ... I look better than most people my age...that my life is more magical and full than most.. that I do live a charmed life , yet somehow I have missed something. It is not a big thing at all. A simple thing in fact, just maybe it is daring to say "Hello, My name is Shawn, whats yours?" and give a real smile and see what happens as a result. These potentials go by every day in our life unnoticed so next time extend a simple greeting to a "stranger". Drop by drop the rain of friendship fills the cup of life until that unexplainable day happens when the friendships grow, bonds are made and love flow freely. It is almost an ageless feeling, of seeing those around you grow old, grow up, fade away, go away, move away , age and eventually die... And yet I remain basically untouched by time, age and mind. Am I doing what is right... or should I blend and settle for the grey black and white world most live in? Or maybe it is that I am a wonderful blend of Peter Pan, Lestat, angel and devil looking to hold on to the power of flight at a any cost. Who knows?

Hate doesnt take alot of energy if you own it, it can be fun!
Current mood: satisfied
Here is a thought a very wise man one stated.... I agree with this whole heartedly....with great JOY!
"My worst enemies are those who presume me to be harmless. They cannot imagine how much I resent and disdain them, or just how great a threat they would face if I could get at them. Everything in their behavior speaks of insult and presumptuousness, and for now I happily make constructive use of my cunning to annoy them in 10,000 unseen and unseen ways. At this time, I just make a list of them and keep a watch on. Some day, with the help of time, space, and circumstance, I will be able to humiliate them properly - not in a manner they would enjoy, but in a style calculated to make them wish that they had never been born."

This is Halloween, The season of the witch is here!
Current mood: witchy!
Greetings Darklings, Summer time has just flown by leaving in it's wake memories of sun-soaked weekends in Ptown with loved ones, haunted house remodeling , romanitc midnight pool swims and sugar kisses, planting soul seeking marigolds, ravishing the downtown area with my pirate crew from the Black Raven, paranormal experiments in local necropolises, and sharing coven dinners with true Salem Witches. This summer I have never been so happy or looked so good. I am a lucky man.
Every day the dark draws ever nearer teasing us to follow her into dark playful misdeeds! Every night the whispering wind wraps us in cacoons of spiderwebby words barely audidle forever urging us to set our deliciously diabolical machanations into motion. Feilds of 10,000 pumkins await those who hear them to carve them into infernal life serving as becons lighting the way as we travel through the underworld. Children everywhere are gearing up to don all manner of imp, monster and spoiled disney princess to posses them if only for one evening..... ah this time of year is like no other. This Mabon my coven and dear friends , will once again celebrate Mabon in the company of wolves, crows, while festing on sumptious out door banquets, cuddling on autumn hayrides and enjoying turn of century magic shows ! Not only do we celebrate our greatness at this time but we also celebrate the loss of those whose cowardice and stupidity where surpassed only by their insipid looks. Season of the witch is now upon us. To those who are amoung the "disenfranchised" thank you for leaving life is better without you. Perhaps now they can spend more time managing thier own affairs and problematic teens so their real world time will no longer be consumed by investigating government agencies and dodging calls from old pediphile jail bird lovers. Dont even think of sticking your "noses" back into our real Salem magic or witchery or you may just get more of them nipped off! lol
On a much brighter note... or considering the time of year should I say much darker note! This year Christian and I have managed to get the Psychic fair and Witchcraft EXPO earlier than expected. So this week we are setting up our sacred space and opening the doors of enchantment early to our waiting public.... Life is good! Almost everyone in the coven has done a great job keeping up with these busy times and has show a real unified elitism that to date goes unsullied! Well darklings, I wil look for this coming season... and until then stay warm, well and mostly wicked! Hope to see you at the Annual Psychic Fair , The Official Salem Witches Ball and of course The Vampire's Masquarde Ball......The Witches of Salem Elder for the state of New Hampire is Miles H. Pendry of Shadowed Moon Coven... ( see pendry.org) and tell him his witch bro says Hello! Until then Snakes and Hisses, Your favorite Salem Witch, Shawn Krow

Getting ready for the Season of the Witch!
Current mood: mischievous
Hail and Greetings Fellow Darklings and sexy Monsters! As children we all understood the natural terror of things that peered at us from half opened midnight bedroom closets. We instinctually wrapped and tucked our feet within the safety of fresh linen sheets so the monsters hiding under the bed would not grab at our feet. Basements in darkess where to be avoided at all cost due to the lurking fear that would seem to follow us as soon as our young backs were turned. Being adults with special perceptions and psychic gifts we still can sense the wonders of the invisible world around us. Please share your stories of ghosts, paranormal experiences and encounters with things that go bump in the night. With the first harvest done and gone we need a refreshing turn of conversation , which will inspire us, fill us with awe and wonderment and mostly make us ask the question? Are we out here alone or are unseen strangers and old friends whispering words bearly auditable to our human ears... Recommended reading at this time of year is...100 Wicked little Witch Stories put out by Barnes and Noble! Your Favorite Salem Witch, Shawn

July and getting ready for the first Harvest... August
Current mood: happy
Greetings Darklings, Boy, the summer just has whizzed by so fast and has bought with it new refreshing people , relationships, and most importantly prosperity and FUN! The forth of July weekend was a blast. There is nothing like Cape Cod in the good old summer time. The House is almost totally redone, and the Coven has finally shaken the last bit of shit from it's ranks.
Celebrating those who you love in life is crucial to effective living. Being that most who are in my life are the elite from Salem's seascape of magic , this summer we set sails loose for a wonderful time of plunder, grog , booty and sea shanties at the Pirate and Wenches Ball held in August! Once you have removed the human floatsome and jetsome out of your life and set wards against them you will once again see the beauty of the world around you and breath easier the clean winds of change around you! Yo ho Yo ho a pirates life for me. As Capt John Layfiette stated on his Captains log... " If we can't take to the seas in ships , we will take to the skies on brooms." Pirates are the witches of the seas!
With Llammas almost upon us, (which will be held on August 5th) it is time to take into acount your actions of this past year. It is time to measure your magical abilities by your standing in the real world. Are you more sucessful than last year? Has your life gained more power and influence in your dailey cirlce? Is your heart happier and lighter? Do the people you have around you compliement you and make you stronger? Harvest or sacrifice? Which is it? This is the time of year when responsbility comes aknockin at your door. My reccommendation is only answer the door to those who will enrich your life in creative new ways.
During this time of year cycles often complete themselves bringing wishes both good and bad to fruition. Those who helped me and walked with me , unsullied , this year will be honored, rewarded and blessed. Those who, in vain, tried to hinder me will be cursed and forgotten .... plain and simple! I am also happy to report that my heart has been dancing for the past few weeks, wish me luck...
This Autumn will be greater than ever! Plans have been already set into motion to give you all the best Halloween Season ever... ( www.festivalofthedead.com ) So to help get you through the darktime I will leave you with this pearl of wisdom to apply into everyday life.... When walking through life, do you own thing and bother no one. IF someone goes out of their way to bother you ask them to stop if they don't , destory them.... until we next speak,,, Snakes and Hisses, Krow

A nostalgic return of monsters who once ruled...
Current mood: nostalgic
My dear friend MR. Reush just sent me this....
Starting at noon on June 24th, WB56 will be bringing back a classic television show for one day. Creature Double Feature will be on the air, hosted by the Ghoul (aka Ernie Boch Jr). The two movies to be shown are Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster, and The Gila Monster. If this one time only special garners enough attention, it may mean the chance of more CDF in the future." This 1970s-early 1980s show's black and white intro of huge monsters fighting and destroying cities had a strobelight effect and switched from positive to negative while crazy heavy music blared. As a bug-eyed little kid, I made sure I was in front of the TV every Saturday afternoon to see all the Toho monster movies, the classic Universal monster movies, all the Hammer studio's versions of the classics, and every sci-fi B-movie they played. "
Like my freind Mr. Reush... I am going to sum up what this means , to me, in my own words...
"We are a whole generation taken hostage by Monsters, The dark arts and absurd possibilities that only Mad Scientists, Madmen and Monsters could ever understand"
How wonderful. Ah, for the good ole days
I am very excited and nostalgic to see this part of our generation's history re-visit us. Growing up at a time when "gonezo occultniking" was everywhere, hippy politics made our moms burn their bras and Maude was TV's First Lady, Monsters were the anti heroes of our entire generation!
Creature Double Feature lead the way in planting the seeds of macabre and wondrous life lessons into our fertile young minds. Some of my favorite Creature Double Feature Movies are listed below: The Man with The X-Ray Eyes The Head that Wouldn't Die The House on the Haunted Hill Mothra Godzilla vrs. Megalon
Carnival of Souls
The Thing with Two Heads ( no comments from the peanut gallery!)
ALL THE HAMMER DRAC MOVIES!
and of course the old universal standbys. Wolfie,Drac, and Frankie.
But this is not all....Now, I am going to take you on a Flash back to the 1970's weekend of our childhood's lost past...so get your Wonder Woman UnderRoos on and let's fly....
*cue the music and enter psychedelic liquid lights and strobe lights*
Fall into the trip by chanting these magic words....
"ROMPER BOMBPER STOMPER BOO TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME DO, DID ALL MY FRIENDS HAVE FUN AT PLAY?"
(Romper Room was a magical live TV school where kids learned, played and acted out under the tutelage of a teacher named "MISS JEAN" (any one of many during the decade) who possessed and all-knowing magic mirror!)
*exit flash back and liquid trip sound and lights*
Here we now, are at "AnySaturday 1970's" It looks like we all made it safely so let's proceed... It is Saturday morning, and kids followed this routine almost everywhere, Wake up by 7am Eat bowl or two of heavy sugar laden cereal (Boo Berry, Count Chocola, or Frankenberrie) Sit in front of the TV, switch on the magic box, and start to eat our tasty breakfast treat. ( the Pop Rocks came later as a mid day fun treat)
A whole morning filled with potent mind altering subject matter flooded our consciousness... Land of the Lost Groovey Ghoulies HR Puffnstuff Scobby Do Lidsville Sigmond the seamonster Electra Woman and Dyna Girl And finally the crowning on the Saturday morning lineup. Creature Double Feature w/ Dale Doorman. 12pm- 2ish After CDF, pumped now on magic adrenaline and sugar we go outside to play monsters, haunted house, ghost in the graveyard ( hide and go seek with a diabolical twist) And they wonder why, in New England , many of us grew up to be Witches, Vampires, Satanists, Fairies and other assorted Artistic/Magical Creatures... Look at what they did to us...
Loaded us up on sugar, gave us magical based characters for role models, made us listen to KISS, tempted us with super powers via. Marvel Comic Books along with an assortment of talking ape dolls, stretch Armstrong, The Six Million Dollar Man "action figure" and his BIGFOOT side kick . (big stuff back then, and terribly important)!
Does anyone one know where I left my pet rock and mood ring?
To get back home maybe Rodan will give you a ride on his back or even scarier yet, perhaps you can go to Mr. Roger's house and take a trolley through the Neighborhood of make believe as your journey home.
See you soon..... bye bye....
