~more trees can alleviate poverty and climate change~
Current mood: optimistic
Category: News and Politics
excerpt from: In Niger, Trees and Crops Turn Back the Desert
"...Still, more trees mean that Niger's people are in a better position to withstand whatever changes the climate might bring. "This is something the farmers control, and something they do for themselves," said Dr. Larwanou. "It demonstrates that with a little effort and foresight, you can reduce poverty in the Sahel. It is not impossible or hopeless, and does not have to cost a lot of money. It can be done."
From the New York Times, 2.10.07.

Project: Blog GREEN
Current mood: creative
Category: Blogging
Blog GreenIn Celebration of Earth Day, we thought we'd have some quick fun on our community sites and we're asking you to join in! We're having a blog challenge, asking our friends, "How do YOU do Green?" You can blog, take pictures and video...put it on YouTube...put it on Flickr... feature it in your podcasts...any thing to show how you do green! Make sure you leave us a comment or message to tell us where to find your personal green gallery, blog, or other media. This event culminates on April 22 at midnight. where we will choose the most exciting entries and feature them on our community sites (MySpace, Flickr, YouTube, BeGreenNow.com, etc.) And we may even be able to find some cool Kyndle merchandise for you. So have fun! Carpool to work with your funniest co-workers. Camp Out or have a "Lights Out" night where you and your family or friends camp out, inside. Roast Marshmallows, tell stories ...make it a party or a romantic candlit night with your special someone. Make green inspired collage from all the magazines and newspapers at your house, then recycle the remaining material. Plant a tree (or plant a few) with your friends. Just make sure you have fun and make it your own. For more ideas on how to be green, try these sites: Easy to Be Green 15 Ways to Go Green EcoLocal Green Peace And don't forget to pick up the new Earth Day widget on the Kyndle Foundation MySpace page. You can share it with others on your community site and you can even "pop" it to your desktop, via the green button in the top right corner. So everybody have fun and show us your green!

Current Projects: Middle School Tutorial Program
We are currently working hard to get Kyndle off the ground! Our first project is a Tutorial Program for local Middle School students. This program will be a kind of pilot for the Kyndle Learning Center. We're also working on brochures and website development to get the word out about this new program.
The tutoring program will act as a supplement to the existing academic curriculum. It would serve to inspire students to use their gifts and expand their learning potential. Our hope is to kindle interest in our students..to awaken a responsibility to themselves and their community. We seek to illuminate a few in hopes that the few will light many.
The main goal of this program is to address the problem of "disproportionate opportunity." Far too many of our underprivileged youth fall victim to crime, violence, drugs and disease. We believe that the solution to this problem is education. Education breeds opportunity.
