Nuyorican Poets Café s located in the heart of Manhattan's beautiful East Village, on 236 East 3rd Street, between
Avenues B and C. We're also a NYC legend, so if you get misplaced in the neighborhood somehow, just ask someone
By NYC Subway:
Closest Subway Stop is "2nd Avenue" on the F Train: F Train to 2nd Avenue Station. Get out at the 1st Avenue exit and walk east to Avenue B. This is the closest subway train stop, since you'll be getting out on East Houston Street, which is already below 14 Street, and you'll be getting out on 1st Avenue, which is pretty far east.
R Train to 8th Street Station. This is a bit of a walk but you're in the neighborhood. You'll end up on Broadway and West 8th Street when you get out of the train. Walk east to Avenue B, then over to East 3rd Street.
4 or 5 Train to 14 Street Station. Walk east to Avenue B, then walk over to East 3rd Street.
6 Train to Astor Place Station. Same directions as above, only you'll be about 6 blocks closer.
You can take any train to the West 4th Street Station, but we recommend that you switch to the F Train at that point and take it to the Second Avenue Station. West 4th Street Station is way west of the cafe, but it IS a downtown stop and in the vicinity. If you must go this route, it's a beautiful (but long) walk on a summer's night. Find East 3rd Street when you exit the train, and just keep walking east .....(like 8 avenues).

Here In Vain synopsis : A modern day love story, about the lovers you choose and the love that chooses you. Set in a six year period from 2001-2007. Here In Vain is the story of a generation X – a generation with no name, lost, without purpose. It is the story of this generation's war and politics, life and love.
Nina is a young, black, HIV positive woman who searches for love and happiness within the structure of the world and her status. A struggling waitress yet talented poet, who yearns for a stage big enough to share her pain.
Langston is a fellow poet who befriends Nina. The events of 9/11 bring them closer together yet further apart. He joins the army, as she fights her war, with her words. They find themselves in different ways, both Here In Vain and in desperate need of change.
Characters
THE NARRATOR – in his mid-20's moves around with mystical powers only the audience can see him, as he tells the story in prose.
NINA – in her early 20's a loner and poet who finally finds her way to the stage. HIV positive, the story centers around her life. Her words just as potent and overwhelming as her beauty. But if there was one thing she has always loved it was poetry. She has a comfort with words that she never experienced with any person. On stage she is free, and thru poetry she is loved.
LANGSTON – a dreamer, in his mid 20's. A poet in his own rite, yet he never quite made it to where he always thought he ought to be. He struggles between the life he desires and the life he has, finding new inspiration in NINA, he is determined to love her.
JENNY – is the fast talking Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx, who always says what's on her mind. In her early 20's with a long past. PAUL- is in his early 30's and like JENNY he says what's on his mind and has a past he would like to escape, only he knows that he can't – he is a realist.
CLAY- a painter, 'playa' and charmer, in his late 20's. A lover by nature, for him "making art is like making love" and he is equally good at both. AMANDA – in her mid 20's, she has high expectations on life and love and is unwilling to settle on either.

Habla is back in NYC!
What is Habla? The Habla series features Latinos from all backgrounds talking about being Latino in the U.S. Simple, spontaneous, in your face and unapologetically in Spanglish, Habla which means to talk, is often a hilarious commentary on the immigrant experience and the resulting culture clash. Four half-hour specials have been created for HBO Latino, featuring actors, poets and musicians, but mostly regular people from: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.
We like to call them "Talking Portraits."
To be invited to the casting and to see samples, please visit www.latinomediaworks.com and follow the instructions. You don't have to be an actor to participate. This is a non-union paid project. SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS MAY 10th
I had the wonderful opportunity of being on the first season of HABLA on HBO LATINO where they filmed a poem that so many people have expressed love for, PEARL of the CARIBBEAN which has been seen countless times and has opened amazing doors for me...
LATINOMEDIAWORKS.COM
YOU TOO should seize this wonderful opportunity of expressing what Latino means to you, even non-latinos should audition because, from the outside looking in must be an interesting perspective, couldn't hurt. Any Youth to Elder should see this as a chance to share something of yourself with the world. And non-union just means that you are not part of the two television/film unions, SAG or AFTRA... If you are part of SAG or AFTRA you cannot audition... EVERYONE ELSE CAN! Reach out to www.latinomediaworks.com. Follow the directions and audition... BE SURE to say that LA BRUJA sent ya...
