Summer Break?
Category: Writing and Poetry

I can't believe this is the last week of June. Where did the month go?

There was a time when summer was lazy and carefree, relaxed and unhurried. Mine aren't like that any more. Are yours?

When I was teaching, summer break was my goal. Get through the school year, take a leisurely break for the summer, and then start all over again in the fall. It was a nice schedule, teaching. You get to do a do-over every year.

Writing is kind of like that, too. With each book, I get to do a do-over. Of course it is not the same plot or same characters, but it's another chance to write the best book I can. Make this one better than the last. It's nice if you can have leisurely "summer break" in between.

Lately, that's not been the case for me. In all respects. This particular book, the current wip, is moving slower than normal. Perhaps because I've not given myself a break. I find that is how my day job is moving, too. Slower than normal to get tasks accomplished.

But all will get accomplished. I know it will.

Why do I suddenly have this hankering to take a beach towel, a bottle of baby oil and iodine, my transister radio, and a large glass of iced tea out to my back yard and lay out all day.

Um, perhaps because I'm not sixteen and it's not 1970 anymore. Sigh.

Lori Foster’s Reader and Writer Get Together!
Category: Writing and Poetry

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho...it's off to Cincinnati we go! This weekend found all four of us at the Lori Foster Reader and Writer Get Together. A record number of people were in attendance -- almost 300 in total, with approximately 112 authors. This was a great chance to meet readers and new friends and to network with authors and industry professionals.

We met up with Resplendence Publishing authors for most of the events and the booksigning on Saturday afternoon. We also had a great time, laughed and sang too much, and sort of pigged out on cheesecake (at least Maddie did...some of us were really good) but heck, these times come around all to few, right?

Janet, Magdalena, Jan and me (Maddie) brought a gift basket for the charity raffle and were so pleased that Joyce Ann McLaughlin won it! Joyce Ann, we sure hope you enjoy your "stay" in Legend, Tennessee!

And, we hope you enjoy your copy of Ladies of Legend: Finding Home.

Picture, from left: Maddie, Magdalena, Joyce and Janet. (Hm, Jan, was suspiciously absent! Actually, she was off meeting with an agent so we'll allow her that!)

Barbara Vey from Publisher's Weekly also posted Joyce's prize catch on her blog today, so check it out if you have a chance. We all try to catch Barbara's blog frequently. Be sure to stop by and see her.

We're all tired...but it's a good tire, as they say. I know that I, for one, am looking forward to the next time we all get together again.

SisterWriters & Friends
Current mood: blissful

After spending a wonderful, fulfilling, and very productive day with my SisterWriters this past weekend, I must say there is simply nothing more satisfying than to work with and adore the women with whom you have built a world. Like the ladies who inhabit our world of Legend, Tennessee, Maddie, Magdalena, Jan, and I have a special bond we want to share with each and everyone who opens the pages of our books.

That is my personal goal for, and perspective of, the Ladies of Legend series. Romance is certainly the major theme, but sisterhood is equally as important. The town is built on these relationships, and each story is designed to pull the reader further and further in, until we are all living there together. Having a girls night out. Or a night in with the man of our fantasies. Feeling the wonder and nerves of a new relationship. Or riding high on sexual satisfaction with the one we have come to adore. We want to share a favorite recipe, or a private joke. We want to fight the good fight, and embrace both the joys and the sorrows of all our friends and neighbors as they join us in Legend. The door is always open... Make yourself at home.

SisterWriters Live and In Person!
Category: Writing and Poetry

Ack! It's Friday May 9. Where are my sisterwriters?

Oh, that's right. They'll all be here TOMORROW!

No wait. Janet is coming tonight. Tonight! I've not seen the woman in ten years and she's coming TONIGHT! ack!

Magdalena and Jan are joining us tomorrow. We're doing a mighty big SisterWriter confab at my house (which will NEVER be the same) and plotting, planning, preparing to write, market and promote our Ladies of Legend series of books.

Yes, books. Lots of them! The likes of which you have NEVER seen.

Okay, I'm typing with way too many caps and exclamation points -- both of which grate against my very grammar grooviness.

Just stay tuned because perhaps will have stories and pics and who knows what all else from this first ever SisterWriter Plot (I said Plot) party.

Cool beans, huh?

A 5 Cup Review from Coffee Time Romance!
Category: Writing and Poetry

Just had to share.  :)

LADIES OF LEGEND: FINDING HOME/ANTHOLOGY
JANET EAVES, MAGDALENA SCOTT, JAN SCARBROUGH, MADDIE JAMES
www.resplendencepublishing.com

Rating: 5 Cups

Claiming the Legend by Janet Eaves

I liked the suspense that edged on in Claiming the Legend. The characters blended well with each other and the way the town comes together to aid one another is wonderfully created. Janet Eaves sketches two sides to Lily that gives the reader more insight to her as a person. The layer of expressions portrayed on these players is excellent.

Midnight in Legend, TN by Magdalena Scott

This story had me in stitches. The minute the voodoo doll was brought up, and the reaction with Martin, was hilarious. I loved the theme of this whole storyline. The electric characters of Midnight and Martin were enough to engage me and keep me reading this superb tale. Midnight in Legend by Magdalena Scott is one read I will not forget.

Bed, Breakfast, and You, by Maddie James

I love stories by Maddie James. She creates vibrant characters and lively situations, and this story is no different. The banter and little creative out-takes between the two is great. The part where they were having a small discussion at the lake was really fantastic. Bed, Breakfast, and You, is a fast-moving read that really hooks the reader. Ms. James makes me want to move to Legend.

The Reunion Game, by Jan Scarbrough

I liked The Reunion Game. There were qualities in Jane that many women have felt one time or another, as well as with Graham. Jan Scarbrough paints convincing characters that reach out and touch the reader in some way. This flowing read is really delightful. I look forward to more stories by Ms. Scarbrough.

Ladies of Legend: Finding Home are four terrific stories by four great talented women. I like the way the ladies are not all young spring gals but instead mature ladies. These delightful stories are sure to please any reader. The banter, wit and simmering romance adds to some great creativity behind the minds of four gifted artists. I was spellbound with every turn of the page. The story allows the reader to feel a part of Legend, TN and it is such a lovely town that just blooms with love everywhere the ladies of Legend step. Whatever you do, do not miss this extraordinary read that is a rare and precious gem indeed!

Beauty and the Beast
Current mood: accomplished

I'm delighted to share my new cover for Beauty and the Beast here on MySpace which will be out later this month!  And share a little about the story...

Beauty and the Beast:

Special Agent Polly Chapman has multiple identities. She is known to many as a savior. To others she is only a killing machine. But all who know or think they know her believe her untouchable. Until she's injured. Now the man sent to piece her back together when "The Agency" considers her broken has only two choices–Catcher Stevens must fix her, or kill her.

Books...and Book Signing!

Hey there. My big box of Legend arrived! Actually, it was two big boxes of Legend, all very neatly bubble-wrapped so they got here safe and sound. And the books are absolutely lovely. I’m not saying that just because my name is on the front. They really are lovely. Resplendence does an awesome, and very professional, job with their books.

I’m doing a signing on April 8, and already have the jitters. Fortunately, it’s about the book, not about me, right? Although there was some talk of a reading... Yikes! Me reading out loud to adult women. Okay, when you type it, that doesn’t sound so scary, so I guess I can deal. And hey--I can wear my snazzy black reading glasses with the "diamonds"--for luck, and to look really classy. Or at least so I can see the words.

My SisterWriters aren’t able to make this event, but we hope to do some joint signings this summer. Definitely in June at Lori Foster’s event. If you’re planning to be in Cincinnati for that, look us up!

For the next few days, I’ll just be over here in the corner, practicing my elocution.

BOOKS! COMING SOON TO A PORCH NEAR ME!

Hey, good news for everyone who has been asking. I will have actual print copies of LADIES OF LEGEND: FINDING HOME by the end of March. Once we have these in our hands, we’ll be doing book signings. Yay!

I still think it’s important to conserve our resources, and reading green by downloading electronic books is a great idea. I love the immediacy of downloading a new e-book whenever I want. But for anyone not comfortable with e-books, print romance novels are still an affordable means of temporary escape from the difficult and heartbreaking world we live in. And with a romance novel you are guaranteed a happy ending. Not a bad deal, eh?

So, anyway, this is just a heads-up:  If you happen to hear a shrill scream from my general direction on or about March 28, it will probably be because the Great Big Box of Legend has arrived at my house!

CALL ME CRAZY, BUT I LOVE SNOW!
Category: Life

To be more clear, I enjoy winter precipitation in all its forms.  Big, fluffy snowflakes, little round sleet that pelts you in the face, and everything in between.  I'm more likely than not to throw on my walking togs (including boots of course) when the stuff starts to come down.  Yay!

Also a fan of freezing rain, but only from indoors.  In my experience, freezing rain is best enjoyed while sitting by the fire, with a cup of something hot and sugary on the table next to my chair.  Mmm.

Perfect writing weather, of course, as long as the power doesn't go off.  And since I'm writing a story about a snowstorm that cuts off power to a certain cabin near Legend, Tennessee, even a power outage wouldn't be a bad thing.  As long as it doesn't last too long!

Gotta post this blog so I can head to the kitchen for a cappuccino refill!  Catch you later…wave if you see me walking along some day, covered in snow, with a huge smile on my face.

Magdalena
