Online Chat Event -- Today 6/28 @ 4-5pm Eastern!

Last-minute FYI that I will be online chatting today at author Jacquelyn Frank's website as part of her ALL DAY multi-author chat marathon extravaganza! I'm only going to be on deck for one hour -- 4pm to 5pm Eastern -- during which time I'll also be offering up autographed copies of my books to a couple of randomly selected (or some other method Jacki deems appropriate, which, let's face it, could be *anything* LOL) chat attendees. Hope you can make it!

Here's a link to the chat room, which does require Java, fyi:

Holy crap . . . NYT!!

So, the hub and I spent the last week in MI with my family, celebrating a couple of special bdays. As we were driving out there on Wednesday, somewhere around Buffalo NY late that afternoon, my cell phone started ringing--my editor calling from NYC.

"How would you feel about being on the New York Times list?" she asks, far too calmly.

Me: "Oh, God. I’m afraid to ask…" (I’ve hit the extended list before, and hoped by some miracle I *might* squeak onto the fringes again this time)

Then my editor said: "Number. Six."

Me: "Uh, what?"

Her: "Number-fracking-six!"

This was, naturally, followed by much shrieking and laughing and, for me, a prolonged feeling of utter disbelief. Holy crap . . . I hit the NYT list!! It still feels weird to type that! My editor told me to go out and celebrate, but after a full day on the road, all my husband and I could muster was some lukewarm room service food and a shared can of soda at the Best Western we finally stopped at in Ontario. Oh, the glamour, right?! But I have to say, even the soggy sandwich and cold fries tasted great that night. :)

To each and every one of you who picked up a copy of Midnight Rising over these past couple of weeks, I thank you. Really, I can’t say that enough. I feel so fortunate to be doing something I absolutely love, and you guys are the ones making it possible! I hope you enjoy(ed) Rio and Dylan’s story, and I’m working hard to make sure Nikolai and Renata’s story delivers something special too.

Big hugs from one very grateful, humbled author…..

Can I just say . . . you guys are GREAT!!

So, maybe you’ve heard I have a new book out this week . . . ? :)

Yesterday was the official on-sale date for MIDNIGHT RISING, but since last weekend I’ve been on the receiving end of so many incredible emails and messages from you guys, I don’t know how I’m ever going to catch up and answer them all. Seriously, the support and excitement for my books is overwhelming! I really can’t thank you enough--not only for going out and buying my books when they hit stores, but also for being so wonderfully sweet and supportive all year long. You guys are the best!!

From the bottom of my very humbled heart, thank you.

Big hugs,

Lara :)

Just stuff . . .

Oscars, anyone? I watched it last night, but since I haven't seen most of the nominated films (hello, deadlines!), it didn't seem as exciting of a show this time. But I do love Jon Stewart. When he brought Markéta Irglová back on stage to give her acceptance speech for Best Original Song (the tender and simply beautiful Falling Slowly) after she got cut off the first time? That was so awesome of him! And I loved that her brief thanks was among the best given all night. I think that little speech do-over--and the onstage performance of the song Falling Slowly by Marketa and her partner Glen Hansard of the Irish band The Frames--were my favorite moments of the whole ceremony. Here's a link to their band's MySpace page, where you can listen to the duet. It's beautiful!

As for me, I'm deep enough into Veil of Midnight that it's time for me to head into my writing cave and go full steam on Nikolai's story. So I'll be a bit scarce (er, more scarce) online as I begin the heavy lifting of getting the draft down on paper. Wish me luck! In the meantime, I will have some fun stuff coming up as we near the March 25th release day for Midnight Rising. Stay tuned to my website for special previews, a cool video trailer for the book and other things I'm forgetting at the moment. Details to follow soon. . . .

Happy Holidays!

As 2007 draws to a close, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season and a safe, happy and healthy new year! If you have the means (and it doesn't take much–even $20 can make a big impact), please don't forget the folks less fortunate than yourself, as well as the men and women serving overseas this holiday season. To help ease the burden of someone in need of a little joy this Christmas–or at any time of the year–please take a moment to visit the following online organizations and give whatever you can:

ModestNeeds.org (a great way to lend a hand!)

USO "Operation Phone Home" (phone cards for the troops)

MakeItRightNOLA.org (Brad Pitt's effort to help rebuild Louisiana's 9th Ward)

Kiva.org (small loans to real people in developing countries)

Thanks for reading, and for all your support of my books this past year. Have a wonderful holiday, and my very best wishes to you and yours in 2008!

Love, Lara

Win a signed copy of KISS OF MIDNIGHT!
Category: Writing and Poetry

Not that I'm counting or anything, but we are down to just two short weeks before Kiss of Midnight releases on May 1st! Wowza!!

To help speed things along, I'm running a special preview/contest thingy just for subscribers of my newsletter. Each Tuesday and Friday from now till release day, you can read a chapter from the book and be entered into a contest to win an autographed copy of Kiss of Midnight. I just sent out the Prologue and Chapter 1 excerpt today -- and drew the first name for one of the four free books I'm giving away. If you're not subscribed, pop on over to my website and sign up!

Also, I've gotten a bunch of requests lately for bookmarks (from my previous blog post). I still have plenty of bookmarks left so if anyone would like them, just message me with your name and address and I'll get them right out to you. They're free while they last!

That's all for now. Thanks for reading!
