2/29/08 - Modern Guitars Magazine features Laurie Morvan!

Brian D. Holland of Modern Guitars Magazine has written an excellent feature article on Laurie Morvan to go along with his June 2007 interview of her. Not only did Brian do a great job of researching Laurie's music, we commend him for taking the time to really "get it". You can go over to the Modern Guitars website and read the article to find out all kinds of great info about Laurie you may not have known.

2008 FINALIST at International Blues Challenge!

The results are in for the Laurie Morvan Band at the International Blues Challenge!

2008 FINALIST - Live Band Competition
2008 FINALIST - Best Self-Produced CD Competition

The Laurie Morvan Band was the ONLY band to advance to the FINALS of both the Live Band and Best Self-Produced CD competitions. The official IBC merchandiser (bandVillage) said our new CD, Cures What Ails Ya, was 2nd in CD sales revenues out of all 160 acts at the IBC...so it looks like the fans made their choice clearly known!

The Laurie Morvan Band quickly became one of the "buzz bands" of the IBC. The word out on Beale Street was "You better go see the Laurie Morvan Band while you can!" The LMB had a really good crowd for their Thursday night show at Alfred's, but you should have seen the Friday night crowd! By the time the Laurie Morvan Band hit the stage, Alfred's was packed to gills. The MC jokingly said "Wow there are a lot of people here! I guess we know why...here's the Laurie Morvan Band!" Then the LMB rocked the roof right off the joint! After the LMB set, the audience thinned right back out. It was an incredible night.

There was an independent film crew making a documentary of the IBC for the Blues Foundation. Laurie was honored when they chose to film the Friday night show and do a big interview with her. The band met so many nice people, from fans to festival bookers to DJs to Blues Society folks, etc.

We are still getting organized from everything that happened. When we have pictures and video up, we will let you know.

Another big thank you to everyone who helped the Laurie Morvan Band get to Memphis (in particular John & Lynn Parker of the Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society). Because of you, we were able to make a very big splash in Memphis and now the Blues World has become aware of who we are. We hope we made you all proud. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

San Diego Union Tribune picks Laurie Morvan Band!

The San Diego Union Tribune has a section called "Essentials: What to watch for this week"

For music this week they chose the Laurie Morvan Band!  Here is what they had to say:

RED HOT BLUES

The rank of talented female blues guitar slingers is happily growing, as fans of Laurie Morvan can attest. A gifted singer-songwriter and a fleet guitarist who rarely overplays, this Long Beach-based dynamo heads a spunky, no-nonsense band. Together, they ably perform such fetching Morvan originals as the country-rock tinged "Kickin' Down Doors" and the sizzling "Where Are the Girls With Guitars?" Morvan and her band play early Friday evening at Humphrey's Backstage Music Club. (619) 224-3577 or humphreysbythebay.com/backstageMusicClub.cfm.

If you would like you can read the article on the San Diego Union Tribune website ... just scroll down to where it says "RED HOT BLUES"

Thanks, SD Union Tribune!
