Music that helps me write: Josh Schicker
Current mood: productive
You can befriend Josh Schicker on Myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/joshschicker

People ask me what I listen to when I write. Here's one artist that really hits a home run for me when I need to go to the dark place to write. Josh also has some great love songs that remind me of Cabel and Janie. Some of my faves are on the bonus section on this widget. Also check out my superfave Feels Like Rain on iTunes.
Check him out! Be his friend. Tell him Lisa sent you. And go see him in concert! He's got his tour schedule on his myspace page.

Teens & adults, I need your help! Quick research question.
Current mood: thirsty
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hey teens (and early 20-somethings),
Do you know who I'm talking about if I mention "the Unabomber?" (without googling it, please)
Teachers/librarians/parents, if you have a chance, can you ask a few teens for me?
Thank you!! LOVE and HUGS!
Lisa

Twilight fans: What are your favorite passages from each of the first 3 books?
Current mood: mellow
While we wait for the release of Breaking Dawn, I'm wondering what your favorite passages are from Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse.
Just describe the passage, or give us a page number. I'll be reading short passages from all three books at a Breaking Dawn party (Borders, Superstition Springs Mall in Mesa, AZ) Friday night, and I'm having trouble deciding which bits to read. Maybe I'll choose your favorite.

Come to NYC for my August 6 book signing at Books of Wonder
Current mood: awake
Okay?
Wednesday, Aug. 6, 6:00 - 7:30pm Books of Wonder 18 W 18th Street New York, NY
There will be other authors there too, like my buddies Melissa Walker and Linda Gerber -- see them all here: http://www.booksofwonder.com/events_next.asp
And guess what?????
I'm going to read from FADE -- and not the part that you already read in the back of WAKE. A different part.
A part that starts like this (it's the first chapter):
January 1, 2006, 1:31 a.m.
Janie sprints through the snowy yards from two streets away and slips quietly through the front door of her house.
And then.
Everything goes black.
She grips her head, cursing her mother under her breath as the whirling kaleidoscope of colors builds and throws her off balance. She bumps against the wall and holds on, and then slowly lowers herself blindly to the floor as her fingers go numb. The last thing she needs is to crack her head open. Again.
So. There you go. A bonus for those of you who read the blog. Come to the signing to hear the entire first chapter!

Books you should read (and look out NYC, here we come!)
Hey guys! Book signing alert for NYC area!
Wednesday, August 6, 6:00pm BOOKS OF WONDER 18 W 18th Street New York, NY 10011
Three YA authors in one great store: --Linda Gerber (Death by Bikini) --Melissa Walker (Violet by Design series -- her third book in the series comes out Aug 5!!) --Me! I'll be signing WAKE and reading from FADE -- woot!
What's cool about our connection -- we all have a main character who feels like she doesn't fit in with the average teen. Which is how teens feel half the time.
And speaking of books, I've read some great books the last few months and I wanted to pass them on to you:
Violet on the Runway series by Melissa Walker. I don't normally go for the girly, fluffy model type books -- this series ISN'T that. The characters have depth and real problems and it's a great glimpse into the modeling industry from an author who has seen it up close. I LOVED these books and can't wait for the third one to come out August 5!
Death by Bikini by Linda Gerber. Not only does it have a cool cover, but it's an awesome murder mystery that is unlike anything else I've read recently. It'll keep you guessing!
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Yeah, I know. I finally read this one and I loved it. Can't wait for the movie, which happens in October.
Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher. To me, this one's a classic. I re-read it and loved it just as much this time as I did the first time I read it (maybe 10 years ago??) In fact, Chris Crutcher is a YA god and I have a little author crush on him and I think I'm actually going to meet him in October and...well...just go read all his awesome books.
Mortified by Dave Nadelberg. There are actually two Mortified books so read them both. I couldn't stop laughing. These are non-fiction books (oh, how we wish we were making these stories up) about things people did when they were teens -- diaries they kept, bad poems and songs, love letters. It's...yeah. Shocking. A little mature for those under 14, so keep that in mind.
Richard Lewis's THE DEMON QUEEN. Paranormal creepy goodness.
For you readers who love the anticipation of an awesome book that is still several months away from being published, I'd like to direct you to my dear friend, A.S. King. She's got an amazing book coming out in February called THE DUST OF 100 DOGS. Please befriend her! She rocks. Here's her page: A. S. King
Now, tell me what YOU'VE read lately and what I should be on the lookout for. And come to our booksigning, NYC peeps!! And NJ peeps, and heck, do a road trip all you New Englanders -- it's summer. You've got nothing else to do, right? ;-)

Bored? Answer Lisa’s soon-to-be-famous Teen Quiz of the Week: most embarrassing things
Current mood: awake
Lisa's Soon-to-be-famous Quiz of the Week: Is it entertainment? Or just my secret attempt at research? Hmmm...You might never know the answer to that. Just answer any or all of these questions (if you dare):
1. If you are a teen, or if you have ever been a teen, please answer: What is one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to you (in your teen years)?
2. And if you want to go a little deeper (that's what she said), what are things that your parents do that are super embarrassing to you?
3. Random phrases...answer Funny or Not Funny (feel free to elaborate):
Snot rockets
Gorilla poop
Shopping with your parents
Plankton
The Office
Monopoly
