Little Nobody "Game Over: Reset 140" mixes
Current mood: awake
Category: Music
Little Nobody "Game Over: Reset 140" (IF? Records)

Hey all,
I put out the Game Over EP in March, and it was a slow, eclectic, at times dubby/electro reconsideration of beats and breaks, asymmetrical electronic rhythms and squelching, near-acid synths. Sydney's 3D World magazine called it "Head-bending stuff that's well worth investigating."

Anyway, not too long ago (over a vast amount of drinks), one of my mates over here in Tokyo, Yusuke Abe, challenged me to reboot that EP - at 140bpm, with a more up-for-it (albeit open-minded!) techno/house club in mind. Yusuke had a vested interest, as he wanted to DJ a couple of the tracks out, but thus Reset 140 was born.
The outcome is obviously faster-paced, now more tech than dub, and it's available from our label IF? as an exclusive digital download-only release online, through Addictech here: http://ifrecords.addictech.com/Tracklisting:
1 Juice And Jelly (Reset 140 Mix) 2 Game Over (Reset 140 Mix) 3 Get Away From It All (Reset 140 Mix) 4 Dereliction Due (Reset 140 Mix) 5 So What?
Oh, and as always there is one hack videoclip up on YouTube here:

FEEDBACK?
Just got this from Bitchshift, one of my fave producers, back in Melbourne:
1. Juice and Jelly (Reset 140 mix) Grabbed me from the start with that swirling crescendo (sp?) sample. Love the disco feel and that sparse use of a kick drum. really like the percussion, its busy and it works. It has so much groove, it would have been easier to drop in a 4/4 kick drum on that have yourself a floor filler, but you didn't, you stuck to your guns and your style, I commend you on that....now release it again with a 4/4 kick drum beat hahahahahahahaha (just kiddin)
2. Game Over (Reset 140 mix) Reminds me of that track from the movie Snatch. Thought it was gonna go all Aphex Twin to start with. Nice layers, basses, synths, percussion and samples all layered nicely. Good stuff.
3. Get Away From It All (Reset 140 mix) The frantic phasing is awesome. And a very left field but very cool use of the fingered bass sample. again, very percussion rich, but not at all overdone. Funky :)
4. Dereliction Due (Reset 140 mix) I really dig the filtering in and out of that synth/sample/?. The flat 4/4 section in from the middle on is cool. Breaks up the brokeness (?)
5. So What? dig the FX on the off beat hihat. Again, nice stereo mix. love how those hats/shares/? drop in every so often outside the stereo field created by the crux of the mix, nice to listen to on cans. And the groove is locked! hahahaha....I'm boring, i love that locked shit :P

Also, this great feedback from NOISEPSALM over in the U.S.
just had a listen.... alot more "clubby" soundin than your others dereliction due is SICK!!!! probably my alltime fav of yours... nice work. -m

LITTLE NOBODY - Woklurk Orange EP - NOW OUT!
LITTLE NOBODY Woklurk Orange EP (IF?/Hypnotic Room)
Well, got another L.N. release out today, this one perhaps a shade more introspective, minimal and chilled, but still up and out there, methinks.

It's another collaboration between IF? and Hypnotic Room, and it's available as a digital download from Beatport, Juno Download, Audiojelly, Beats Digital, etc, etc.
BEATPORT
This is the propaganda info-sheet that Hypnotic Room put together:
"The Original Mix of Woklurk Orange starts off grainy and lo-fi, like a radio not quite in tune, with someone lazily tinkering on a keyboard, before the kick kicks in. And it's a mighty kick – deep, powerful, spellbinding. The tempo may be slow, the haunting pads in the background might be moody and there may be ethereal, drifting moments to the track, but overall it's a funky, sublime, Booka Shade style piece that leaves you breathless!
"The Retort Mix continues the lo-fidelity intro concept, but bends straight into the beats: initially minimalistic, then a more layered techno groove reminiscent of Jeff Mills in his early Axis records.
"The Kyu-Kyu Buzz Mix goes funky, disco-tek house, with a wild echo-effect on the stripped back beats. It's another sensually slow builder, with sampled real rock drums, that culminates in some devastatingly funky/jazz techno in its latter half – guaranteed to send a crowd mad.
"Hakuchuo Numa tweaks the cute – there are some wonderful sneaky, burrowing sounds squeezed into the demanding minimal tech-house groove here – and it shakes your tail-feather in ways Chicago's DJ Rush or DJ Sneak might approve of!
"Finally, Have You Heard This? winds up the EP with a beautiful, organic mix of house, breaks and dubstep that would raise the floor in any summer venue dance area.
"Woklurk Orange is one of the more gorgeous EPs we've heard this year!"
...so, nice comments indeed, but the proof of the busted pudding (as my dad would say) is in the actual tasting!
You can also check out other info, including DJ/producer feedback, and tune in to sample sounds of the EP, online here at HYPNOTIC ROOM
Tracklisting: 1 Woklurk Orange (Original Mix) 2 Woklurk Orange (Retort Mix) 3 Woklurk Orange (Kyu-Kyu Buzz Mix) 4 Hakuchuo Numa 5 Have You Heard This?
There're also a couple of videos up @ YouTube:

WOKLURK ORANGE
WOKLURK ORANGE (KYU-KYU BUZZ MIX)
...anyway, enough self-promotion kerfuffle!! Hope some of you have the time to check this out, and any feedback is always appreciated!!

LITTLE NOBODY Remember Radio (FREE EP!)
LITTLE NOBODY - REMEMBER RADIO EP (Dead Channel - Channel 013)Hey everyone,Got some news this morning - my new Dead Channel release, Remember Radio?, is online now here:http://www.dead-channel.com/releases/channel013/It's also FREE to download!! This is basically a good-will arrangement I have with Dead Channel crew in Leeds, in the UK, another wunderbar crew to work with, whereby I release my more experimental, noisy tech/electro tangents (with samples galore)...They wrote this propaganda spiel: "Andrez Bergen returns to Dead Channel with more of his unique brand of cut up electronic experimentation.A sampledelic ride through the mind of one of Tokyo’s hardest working artists; Remember Radio will find favour with any fan of his already extensive discography."Heh-heh... love to hear what'cha think!! And while you're at it, check out the other releases on Dead Channel from the disparate likes of Micoland, Noisepsalm, Ant Orange, Sofaboy, etc.VIDEOS Yep, I've been hard at it (well, not really), hacking together videoclips on YouTube for some of the tracks here; just remember that the sound quality on these clips doesn't quite match up with the original material:HUSH, HUSHhttp://au.youtube.com/watch?v=44yzkvFRgdULULL IT TO SLEEPhttp://au.youtube.com/watch?v=RvP_4ZkCkTsREMEMBER RADIOhttp://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YTnNzoTszpsMING THE MIRTHILESShttp://au.youtube.com/watch?v=XPoxShAWB_Y

LIVE IN TOKYO release
Category: Music
Hey all,
Just letting you know that yesterday we pushed out another music release, this time a LIVE IN TOKYO record by two resident IF? artists, Ein Kleiner Schelm and me, in collaboration with Japanese musician Magnet Toy (Trope Recordings).

We're putting this out as a digital download-only release via the way cool people at Hypnotic Room in Sydney, who are also now handling Zen Paradox and TR-Storm, and they convinced us to do the release in the first place.
It's available online here:
BEATPORT https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/125139/live_in_tokyo_ep
JUNO DOWNLOAD http://www.junodownload.com/products/1337585-02.htm
Hypnotic Room nicely cobbled together a press release for this one, which goes as follows:
In late 2001, IF? Records settled into its new home (Tokyo, Japan), after resettling in that urban megatropolis all the way from Melbourne, Australia. And between December 2001 and mid-2004, they ran a series of parties around Tokyo, as well as dispensing their artists out to rocking, notorious club and bar venues like Womb, Blue and Bullet's.
Three of these nomadic mainstays were IF? label founder, Andrez Bergen (Little Nobody), Tokyo native Akimitsu Hamaguchi (as Magnet Toy, but also known as Mapholova, on Thomas Heckmann's Trope label - http://www.discogs.com/artist/Mapholova), and German ring-in Ein Kleiner Schelm. These are their collective (live) stories. While the EP starts off with Little Nobody teaming up with Magnet Toy to deliver the dark, tuff, stadium-techno assault of "Depth Charge", a track sounding very Luke Slater, à la Planetary Assault Systems, the second live track, "Bulletproof", chills a fraction as it begins with a laidback beat that slowly morphs into a nice, funky stereo mix that's solid tech house! "Live Mix 1.0" has a distorted bassline that pans, then fittingly moves from 4/4 to hip-hop beats, and then back, with smooth transitions - solid tech-house here, too. You'll dig the rhythmic glitches in "Live Mix 2.0". Who wouldn't? At about 9:23, a new segment starts, and we really like the way in which the kick is EQ'd – it's very Richie Hawtin, as a DJ, not producer! This wicked collection of live sessions ends, fittingly enough, with "This is Tokyo", chock-full of way cool beatz and samples.
But the real story here...?
I found the original Minidisc recordings at the bottom of my closet while we were spring cleaning earlier this year – we thought we'd lost them years ago! So, for me personally, I don't know if that makes the mixes "worthy", but I'm chuffed to have the chance to rediscover the sounds we were tweaking live here in Tokyo half a decade ago!
;)
Anyway, if you vaguely interested after all this waffle, you can head over to the Hypnotic Room website which has lots of pretty pictures, peer feedback, critique stuff, samples of the sounds, and hack artwork - http://www.hypnoticroom.com/HRoom013.html
VIDEOS

We've also got some el cheapo videos up on YouTube for a couple of these tracks, including snippets (but not so much) of original footage from the gigs themselves:

’Wayward Seafarers’ review in 3D World mag, Sydney
Category: Music
...and we scored a nice review in the pages of 3D World mag up in Sydney: I love those guys, and Evil Chris is now my hero!!
LITTLE NOBODY Wayward Seafarers EP (IF? / Hypnotic Room)
This second download-only EP offering from former Melburnian now Tokyo-based expat Andrez Bergen, under his Little Nobody alias, emerges swiftly on the heels of his recent 'Game Over' EP and offers up another five distinctly eccentric new tracks that nicely continue his dense, glitchy stylistic trajectory. If 'Bonny Voyager' manages to call to mind some collision between the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and a room full of jazz records being thrown down stairs, 'Get Away From It All' promises an escape that sounds anything but idyllic, as terse robot voices intone the title phrase over stuttering, minimalist breakbeats. 'Jidaigeki Brekky' meanwhile offers up a side-trip into rattling mechanical beats and Zen dojo samples, before 'Wish You Weren't Here' closes things off amidst a wash of gently meandering melodic pads and unpredictable, skittering rhythms. A leftfield electronic delight that's well worth getting hold of.

LN remixes by SI BEGG, FILA BRAZILLIA, SUBHEAD, CAPTAIN FUNK, etc
Just letting you know that today we released our brand new remix compilation, with remixes by Si Begg, Tobias Schmidt, Tokyo techno bod Captain Funk, Jason Leach from Subhead, Steve Cobby from Fila Brazillia, Toshiyuki Yasuda (ex-Fantastic Plastic Machine), plus a wad of Japanese and Australian producers, including Melburnians Pat Stormont and Isnod.
The compilation is titled "Little Nobody presents SLAM-DUNK NINJA: The Perspicacious Remix Selection" (rather long-winded, we know!!), and there are 18 tracks in all, veering from electro to crack house, on into glitch/techno and IDM, and departures toward hip hop.
It's a remix selection of past and present tracks originally hacked together by myself, except (18) composed by Devin Wine, and "Cocaine Speaking" originally composed by me, Jeff Willis, and Francois Tetaz.
Self-indulgent? Hell, yeah!

But I wanted to do a bit of a celebration jaunt thing for a decade since I pushed out the first Little Nobody album in 1998!
We're also doing this as a digital release in collaboration between IF? and Sydney label Hypnotic Room ( http://www.hypnoticroom.com/index.html), who have nicely put together a press-release pack, the artists involved, and the track-list as well.
So, if you're still interested, hop along to one of the following digital sites for a sneak preview and feel free to indulge in the rather way cool artists involved - to whom I have to say a hearty big thanks!
Check out each individual's own work. They all rock my world.

LITTLE NOBODY - free EP to download @ Dead Channel
Hey guys,
A freebie this time!
I just released my latest Little Nobody EP, called "Double-Click To Play", through a very cool new label called Dead Channel in the UK.
Anyway, their policy is digital downloads for free, which I really dig too.
So, if you're at all interested in 6 free new tracks that go a little bit leftfield of electronica, scuttle along to the label's website here:
http://www.dead-channel.com/releases/channel006/
I also have the usual array of hacked together video clips for some of these tunes stuck up on YouTube...
