andLinux Beta1 enters development tomorrow.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting work on andLinux Beta1 tomorrow (have the day off). The installer, upgrade scripts and minor fixes are my primary focus right now.
I would like to start hearing suggestions from the andLinux community!!!

I still can't find the time to post about the new version of andLinux so I am asking all of you to submit the news of the new release to your favorite web sites.
Thank you all very much.

Its ready!
Current mood: tired
Ok. andLinux PreBeta is all ready, but I forgot my password to the ratx mirror and don't have another one available. I am going to try and get in touch with ratx to get PreBeta uploaded ASAP.
If anyone has a mirror they can offer, now is the time!
David
Update: It is uploading and should be done by 11:00PM EST. I am going to bed.

andLinux news
Current mood: sore
andLinux Update:
Well, I threw out my back and have been pretty much sitting/laying all day... so andLinux PreBeta is done. I got the WinTap changes completed (albeit a bit messy), moved the base to Ubuntu Edgy Eft, fixed my compile issues, etc... I just need to clean things up, write up some documentation, get it packaged and upload.
Please note that there will not be an updater in this version since we are moving from Debian Unstable to Ubuntu Edgy. I also have a few things to work out with the updater also. Here is the thing: The initial design (working) is that you make your previous andLinux's base.drv into Drives/old.drv. andLinux will detect the drive on startup, read all of the installed packages and install them into the new base. After, it will copy over the /root changes, /home, /etc, etc. The issue is that, at least for me, I tend to clutter my drives with unwanted applications and really wouldn't want every installed package to be downloaded/installed. This means that I need to come up with a way of making a semi-interactive mode for the updater. It also means a rewrite and redesign.
ADDED: Oh, I forgot to mention some of the newest changes.
UBUNTU: The Linux base has been moved from Debian Unstable to Ubuntu Edgy Eft. WINTAP: All non-Internet communication uses the WinTap protocal. Slirp is great for Internet, but was just too slow for X and sound. Due to adding WinTap, you can now use graphic applications that andLinux just couldn't handle before. TOOLBAR: andLinux no longer just pops open a console on bootup. I have moved to using Xfce's toolbar. It is lightweight, clean, fast and customizable. PERFORMANCE: Aside from the performance enhancements above, I have been working very hard to improve the filesystem speed. I still experience some slow boot times when I first start andLinux, but they have gone from 3-5 minutes to well under a minute. UPDATES: As usual, we move to the latest-and-greatest versions of CoLinux. We have also moved to the 2.6.17 kernel. MUCHMORE: As always, I have made so many changes over the last I don't know how many months, that I can't even think of half the changes I made. I swore I was going to write them down as I went along but the Ubuntu core change kind of killed that.
I would really love to hear everyones ideas and thoughts on the updater, andLinux, Ubunutu, WinTap and... well... just about everything.

andLinux PreBeta may turn into Beta.
Current mood: determined
Some of you may remember my staing that andLinux wouldn't hit Beta until it had an installer... well... since I have been working with Henry Nestler on some compiling issues (mentioned below), I have spent some time working on the installation process for andLinux. I may have an installation setup [READ: Installer] completed this weekend and PreBeta is slated for next weekend... which will move PreBeta to Beta 1.
Now for the current issues with PreBeta (or Beta 1)... There was an issue with PreBeta crashing on large compiles, but Henry Nestler has corrected the issue. I am now having problems compiling the new version, but it is due to the move to Ubuntu since it seems to work in the Debian environment. Yes, this means that I test andLinux by compiling andLinux in it (one of the tests that run several times). Since andLinux is a development tool, I can't release until I get this corrected.
Also, I tried updating to the latest Edgy version of Ubuntu. It crashed andLinux pretty hard, but I believe I found the issue. I would like to get this corrected this weekend, fix the compilation issue, base it on Ubuntu Edgy and add in WinTap 8.4 (maybe even the installer)... all this weekend!
When done, I will release it to the testers and try to break it for a week. If all goes well... I will release next weekend.
Sounds simple, huh?! ;-)

andLinux PreBeta
Current mood: tired
I have been very busy lately with some personal things and a couple of large projects at work. I have been creating a custom version of andLinux for the company I work for to resolve some of the limitations that the Windows version of our software has. The limitations are not because of the software, but Windows restrictions on its software.
Anyway, I am going to buckle down this weekend and try to package up PreBeta because I really would like to start working on some new features that the PreBeta code freeze is delaying. There are several new things that I have in the works for Beta1, but PreBeta comes first.
I will continue to update the blog with information this weekend to try and keep everyone updated.

Work and play...
Current mood: accomplished
I have spent the morning working on andLinux. I am currently stuck with a kernel recompile (development library issue) and will resume later tonight. I have added a fix for the PreBeta Vista bug, so everything is now moving along. Once the new kernel is in place, I will only need to finish the WinTap installation process.
I am going to head out and take Abi to the pool. She will probably splash around for a few hours, have dinner, bath and head to bed. Once she is in bed, I am going to work on the WinTap automation.

Here is me!
Current mood: creative
Well, this is my MySpace page. I have had it for over a year, but never really did anything with it. I figured I would dress it up a little and try it out for a while.
As for me, I am an IT professional currently working for an Rx software applications compnay. I am the founder of a little Linux distribution called andLinux. andLinux is unique since it runs seemlessly in Microsoft Windows. I also do a little moonlighting for a company called Dynamism doing some project work for systems that they import.
My personal life is usually dedicated to my daughter. Being a single parent is difficult, but the reward outwieghs the challenge. I would like to go out more, but I would also like more spare time. As well, I really enjoy being single. The next woman who captures my heart will have to be amazing!
My spare time is dedicated to my daughter, lifting weights, playing guitar, hanging out with friends, family and the occasional video game.
