GAC’s Next Big Star - I need your help!
Current mood: blessed
Category: Music

Hi Everyone!

I guess I will address this to any of my friends who have lots of time on your hands.  It appears that the only votes that count in the GAC "Next Big Star" competition are the votes on the "Head-to-Head" Matchup.

What that means is that you can go to http://musicnation.com/contest/gacstar/matchup and keep voting for me over and over and over.  The main problem is that there are almost 500 contestants.  So they rotate two by two until my name comes around again.  It takes around 1 hour for my name to come up again randomly.  I am under "Lori Lynnette".  After 15 seconds of my song "Things I Love" plays, you may vote for me where it says "I Prefer This One".  The way to advance through the artists is to click the word "Vote" near the top of the page.  You do not have to register.

I am very close to making the Semifinals.  I have been up to number 2 today.  Please help if you are near a computer and don't mind voting.  I really appreciate all of those of you that have voted.  I couldn't have made it this far without you.

Much love,

Lori Lynnette

Song Vault FM
Current mood: adored
Category: Music

Well it looks as though my song "Things I Love" is doing well on the country charts at Song Vault FM and they are about to make it a permanent part of their playlist.  I would love your support by logging onto www.songvault.fm and entering "Lori Black" in the name search.  "Things I Love" is right on top of my page and on the main page as well.

I support Song Vault FM so much because they support and promote independent artists like myself.  If you are not familiar with their site, take a look around and maybe vote for others that you love.

Thanks for your love and support and have a fabulous Sunday!

GAC "Next Big Star"
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Music

http://photobucket.com" target="_blank">http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n25/lorilblack/GACNextBigStar.jpg" border="0" alt="GAC's Next Big Star">

I wanted to officially let everyone know that I have totally lost my mind and I have signed up for the new TV show called GAC's "Next Big Star".  I know, I have definitely lost it, but I have seen many artists make it on similar shows who have struggled on a daily basis like I have.  So many of them friends on myspace.

The part that is new for me is the "video" requirement.  Since I spent so much time doing movies and television where there were cameras everywhere, it is hard pressed for me to bring a video camera and have someone filming me during a performance.  But now you see, I have buckled under the pressure.  I even went out and purchased an HD camcorder!  Of course I have absolutely no idea how to use it.  So for GAC I will make this tremedous sacrifice.

Who knows, I may even enjoy making my own videos.  I will keep you posted every step of the way.  And of course if I actually make it onto the show, you won't be able to shut me up.  I will tell you all about the experience.

Much Love,

Lori Lynnette

Please go to www.songvault.fm......

Just recently I have posted several of my songs on a website at www.songvault.fm.  I happen to really love the site because they play all genres for all types of artists and it is designed to allow original songwriters and singers to see how their music can measure up to some of the other music that it out there available for everyone to listen to.  The Manager of my Street Team "Lexi" was the one who encouraged me to check it out.  It's 2 thumbs up for me and I recommend it to anyone.  I am currently on the Classic Country Chart and I have moved up to the "Top 10!!!!"  "Things I Love" is 8 & "Excuse Me" is 9!  This gets me very excited.  They only allow you to airplay three songs at a time until a song falls below the charts and then another song can take its place.  Please visit this site and support independent artists and please vote for my songs "Excuse Me" and "Things I Love".  Just type "Lori Black" into the "Search for song or artist section" in the upper right hand corner.

I appreciate your time and your kindness,

Hugs,

Lori Lynnette

I am in the December Issue!!!!
Current mood: bouncy

Lori Lynnette Black

California Country Girl

By Pat Hannah

Indie Islands eMagazine

Pages 35 & 39 December Issue 2007

"Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Lori now lives in Camarillo, California where she is pursuing a hugely successful songwriting and performing career with her musical talents. As a child she remembers performing in a mall in Wisconsin where she spent a lot of her childhood. Her Dad loved all the great singers like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and the Drifters so there was always a lot of music in her home - both Soft Rock and Country.

After leaving school Lori started pursuing her music career. Studying singing techniques with a vocal teacher, she dabbled with her music a little, did some modeling before meeting her ex-husband, who taught her about drive and creativity and renewed her desire to sing and perform.

Making a life changing decision, Lori moved to California where after working on the side in films, television, and commercials for a few years, auditioned for a soft rock band called "Bentsilver" whom she performed and traveled with extensively.

Recording with R Double D Records Label, Lori is working on her first CD, which is all her own original music and a mixture of Country and Americana. "I never seem to run out of ideas for my songs. My life is full of drama. All I have to do is write about something that is happening…."

With songs like "Mississippi Moon", "One Last Kiss", and "Excuse Me", some of which you are able to listen to on her website, you will understand why we at Indie Islands feel Lori is on the fast track to stardom. Her musical interpretation of the lyrics and the feeling she emotes makes her music truly memorable.

With the support of her Mother Christine she is taking the plunge with her career and as she says in her own words "I have reached a place in my career where I am ready to travel and perform and not put any limitations on myself." With her own powerful vocal style and her self-penned songs of life and love, this young beautiful "California Country Girl" is a must to listen to.

"Performing is a passion. I love to touch people's hearts with my songs. It moves me to want to do more and write more and ultimately perform more." This emotive side of Lori is also echoed in her continued support for her charities of choice Aids, Diabetes, and Autism.

Her words of wisdom to other artists striving to make their way in the music industry : "The most important thing is to try to surround yourself with positive people who support you in what you are doing and where you want to go in your career. Never lose faith in yourself or limit your dreams."

Taylor Swift, One Republic, & Will I Am.....
Current mood: blessed
Category: Music

Dick Clark's ABC Celebrity New Year's Eve Party!!!!

Well it goes without saying that I am thoroughly exhausted but feeling exhilarated because I had an amazing time after 6 hours of continuous dancing and screaming at Dick Clark's taping of this Years New Year's Eve Party. Taylor Swift opened up the show with 2 of her biggest hits. She sang "Teardrops On My Guitar" & "Our Song". Of course she and her band were electrifying and Taylor was playing her famous "silver glitter guitar". (I wonder if they make the glitter guitar with purple glitter?) She looked so cute in her black sequin mini dress, textured stockings, and great black sparkle western boots. Her Band was really incredible and the chemistry between her and her Lead Guitarist was fun to watch. But what amazed me the most was the poise and confidence that Taylor exuded being such a young performer. She was really great and I would recommend to anyone that enjoys her music to go to see her perform.

Next up was One Republic from Los Angeles. They started off with the hit "Apologize". For me they were one of those Bands that I knew the music of and have sung along with them on the radio not knowing who they were, just loving their music though. Everyone watching knew all of the lyrics and sang the chorus out loud. Really loud! One Republic has a smooth mellow European sound and vibe. Super mellow. They sang "Stop And Stare" next which I had never heard before but it was very enjoyable.

Love their music - very classic Rock.

Last but certainly not least was Will I Am. (Formerly from the Black Eyed Peas) Unfortunately kept all of us waiting because he was over 1 hour late. (He was probably just building anticipation). His Band (made up of all women) tried to entertain everyone in his absence. But once he started his performance, he made up for lost time. Will I Am is a very funny guy and he clearly enjoys entertaining people. He sang "Heartbreaker" and "I Got It From My Mama". His black sequined lapel on his suit and sequin striped slacks to match were very stylish and he danced from one side of the stage to another. Great performer!

Because of the numerous cameras filming the entire evening, I was unable to take photos so I am sorry for that. But the whole event will be televised on New Year's Eve on ABC. I was a dancing fool and I had to walk home barefooted because my feet were hurting me that badly. In spite of the blisters I was happy to participate. They are filming the remainder of the Los Angeles portion of the show today (all day) until late this evening. Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, Akon, Plain White T's, & Sean Kingston will be performing today.

Black Artists in Country Music-Dwight Hobbes
Current mood: crazy
Category: News and Politics

Insight News Archives
Dwight Hobbes, arts columnist

Black artists playing country music is, you have to admit, an odd concept. Not necessarily wrong, just, well, not your everyday scheme of things. When it comes to performers, there's been Charley Pride, a couple of Ray Charles' albums and, nowadays, Cowboy Troy. The genre, borne of bluegrass hymns and hard-luck sagas on fiddle, washboard and a gitbox, is one of last places you generally expect to catch black performers making a mark at all, much less with distinction.
Enter such against-the-grain talents as Miko Marks, Mike Mann's Cowboy Soul and Lori Lynette Black.
Miko Marks paves a serious inroad with her recording debut, Freeway Bound (Mirrorme Records). Industry press won't stop covering her. Audience can't get enough. No wonder. Marks engages with subtle phrasing and golden-throated passion. There is a reason she's been showered with more accolades than you can shake a stick at – including being named Best New Country Artist of 2006 by New Music Weekly and Freeway Bound taking Country Album of the Years honors at the Independent Music Awards. The lady has strong singing and songwriting chops. FYI: Erykah Badu makes a featured appearance in the video of "Mama", Marks' poignant ballad bonding daughter to mama to grandma. Poetic lyrics sung with true emotion, Miko asks her departed mother, "Mama/did I ever make you proud/or am I still a weed, growin' wild/I'd like to think I'm wiser, but I need your approval now". Been there? She applies the same sensitive, down to earth touch to all her tunes. Anyone with a clear eye on the horizon can see singer-songwriter Miko Marks' star on the rise. All well and good, but, what on earth prompted her to take up country singing? "I just found myself drawn in that direction. Why not pursue what's naturally comin' out of me? I followed its lead." Striking while the iron's hot, her follow-up It Feels Good is in the can, slated for June release. And wouldn't surprise a soul if it made just as much noise as Freeway Bound.
Mike Mann's Cowboy Soul with their debut release Cowboy Soul, nicely snatch you by the collar, pleasantly put their foot in your behind and leave you pleased as a pig in slop, glad to your bones that somebody makes this kind of music. Like the band's name says, it's a blend of hillbilly and hip. And, from first cut to last on the album, leaves you smacking your lips for more. The music is an ingenious mix of country hick and city grit: Kentucky bluegrass crossed meets, as it were, Stax/Volt. Do somethin' with that. "The Weight" (no, not The Band classic), leads things off, tight as the crack of dawn and loose as a bucket of juice. "Mine Tonight" follows with a narrative that pricelessly echoes Solomon Burke. "We Love Country Music" virtually does the impossible – to excellent effect -- blending The Byrds and Sly & The Family Stone, brandishing a chorus that sings, of all things, "We love country music, 'cause country music is funky." Added to which, there's a fine cover of Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back The Hands Of Time". "I'm One Of Them" puts you in mind of The Chambers Brothers, who, blending rock and rural soul, in the late 60s and early 70s were way ahead of their time. Frontman/lead singer/rhythm guitar/harmonicat and founder Mann says of Country Souls' music, "I listened to a lot country, growin' up in Iowa, worked in Texas about 8 years. And learned a lot about the Black cowboys [and eventually] fell in love with the genre. The way of life". Fine. What about the funky R&B feel to Cowboy Soul's music? Mann says with a chuckle, "That's just me." The rest of this innovative band is Keith Roger Washington on bass and backing vocals, drummer Tracy Hill, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Drummond, keyboardists Duane Laskey and Rei Williams and Ted Cooper on backing vocals.
"When I sing country music", Lori Lynette Black reflects, "it just seems to be pretty natural for me. There are people who've said, 'You kind of shocked me.' But, overall there's great respect and support." She and her backup band Bentsilver, keep busy around L.A. and this fall head out on a national tour. Lori will catch her breath, maybe do some woodshedding, and gear up for a 2008 international tour with stops in, among other countries, Japan, Greece, Germany and Norway. This on the strength of her album with the ironic title Absence of Color. Black's style is easy going, lilting with a warm, wizened tone when it's not nailing you with some good, old-fashioned brass and sassafras. "His Love's Not Real" and "One Last Kiss" have a laid back that is irresistible and Lori Lynette Black airing some sweet pipes.
We've also seen the splendid band Reggae Cowboys, mesmerizing siren Liz Toussaint and Rissi Palmer. Who knows? Before long it may not be strange at all to find Black country artists scaling the record charts. Miko Marks, Mike Mann's Cowboy Soul and Lori Lynette Black
are doing a hellified job of hastening that day

Indie Islands eMagazine December Issue 2007!
Current mood: determined
Category: Music

I am very excited to announce that I have been selected to be Featured in their December issue of "Indie Islands eMagazine! I have already confirmed back to them to tell them that I am interested and so I am working on the online interview.

Now the thing that is most interesting is that the readers of Indie Islands and the fans of the various featured artists decide where the interview will be placed in the eMagazine! Wow! That's exciting! So now the artist and fans alike have more control over whom they can read about first.

I will be sending out e-mails and bulletins when the time is right. But of course I need the love and support from all of my friends and special fans. You have helped me tremendously through thick and thin already. As things begin to get crazier, I will depend more and more upon your kindness and support.

I will definitely keep you posted.

Take care of yourself.

Much love,

Lori Lynnette

"One & Only Man" - "Absence Of Color"
Current mood: busy

"One & Only Man - CD Titled "Absence Of Color"

Lyrics By Lori L. Black

Copyright © 2007

Wanna tell the whole world

That I finally found you.

Magic's in the air.

Come on now babe,

Feel my love that surrounds you.

One and only man.

When you whisper so softly,

How much that you love me.

As I look into your eyes.

Just can't wait

For the feel of your

Strong arms around me.

One and only man.

Wanna give you my love

Like never before.

Emotions that I've never shared.

No one on earth

Loves you more than me baby.

One and only man.

I want to spend our whole lives

Growing closer together.

Love eternally.

When you're holding me

Hope it will

Go on forever.

One and only man.

Well my heart was so empty.

'Til you came along.

Passions overflow.

So it's now and forever

To you I belong.

One and only man.

Wanna give you my love

Like never before

Emotions that I've never shared.

No one on earth

Loves you more than me baby

One and only man.

Let's watch the stars,

And leave the world behind.

The reflection's in your eyes.

Where did the love come from?

Completely unaware.

I'm so thankful

My only man.

I wanna give you my love

Like never before.

Emotions that I've never shared.

'Cause there no one on earth

Loves you more than me baby.

One and only man.

You're my one and only man.

Baby, I really love you.
