Non-Violent Direct Action Fall 2007
Category: News and Politics

FAMILIES OF ACTIVE DUTY SOLDIERS

SPEAK OUT AGAINST RECRUITING METHODS AND CALL FOR AN IMMEDIATE END TO THE WAR IN IRAQ

Family members of local – area residents who are currently serving on active duty will be convening to demand "truth in recruiting" practices and the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. Many recruits are misled by enticing promises that recruiters cannot or do not deliver. Because voluntary military service includes the willingness to sacrifice one's life, this decision should be honored by truthful, accurate recruiting practices! Please join us as these family members share the moving personal stories of their children and siblings who are currently serving in Iraq.

WHO: Families of local Active Duty soldiers, Iraq and Iraq-Era Veterans

WHAT: Affected families, students and veterans demand "Truth in Recruiting" and the immediate return of US troops deployed to Iraq. Possible civil disobedience action.

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, 12 Noon

WHERE: Pasadena City College Sculpture Garden, followed by demonstration at military recruiting offices across the street from campus at 1pm.

WHY: Because our young people are entitled to informed consent when making decisions about military service! It is a fact that the war in Iraq was based on lies and is a violation of international law. We call for the speedy return of our servicemen and women. Their lives and health shall not be squandered on actions that are unjust and immoral.

Endorsers of this event include: American Friends Service Committee - Los Angeles; Catholic Worker - Los Angeles ;All Saints Episcopal Church - Pasadena; Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace; Students for Social Justice –PCC; MEChA-PCC; Foothills Peace Coalition; Iraq Veterans against the War; MFSO-San Gabriel, MFSO-Orange County, ANSWER-LA, Latinos for Peace, Palisadians for Peace

For years, the United States has waged an unwarranted war on the people of Iraq. The human cost of life has reached astronomical proportions. Over 3,000 US Soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war. The Iraqi casualties are reliably calculated to be as many as 600,000+ human lives. We seek an end to the unjust occupation of Iraq and struggle for an immediate and comprehensive withdrawal.

Armed Forces Recruiting Station is in a mall on the west side of Soto
