sorry. yes. big ones. maybe. well are you? sure.

so yes,
the youngish clerk
has mortal woes.
the man in the stocking cap -
just sad enough
to make her smile.
this solid ground
splits down the middle
at times the fires
come from within -
ah shucks, it's water
based, on top of crust;
blood, urine, tidal
foam even the sky conspires
to bring me my
weather. late september.
the walls are painted.
the floors bear carpet.
the agency is moving
in.   long live them
there.   would you
speak to me in that tone?
the poems are.
will you harvest them
after the rain?
do you farm circles?
may we hunt on your
property?   can we
shoot guns everyday?
hey you, are you an apartment dweller?
do you want to come with us
to this guy's farm?
it's awesome out there!
they have four-wheelers.
you can borrow my twelve
gauge.   we'll drink beer
and stare out across the land.
if we are lucky, we'll be
lent horses.   They are broken and alive!
later, after we get home horny,
our wives will get pregnant.
we will bless this recreation.

aphasia

however related,
my sister and my mom
are both women.
do you hear me!?

though not closely related,
they have woman-ness
in common with all sorts
of other humans.

you can not argue
or refute this,
or you will seem foolish.
how refreshing it is!

my daughter is also
a woman. though fledgling
she has all the proper equipment,
same as your's, if you have one.

basement like a loft

earlier this evening, i meant
to put the television on
mute, but accidentally
turned it off while webbing
economics.  i left it off,
but ended up writing poetry,
taking amalgamations  -
attempting to weave them
into something hopeful.
i then was sidetracked
by work.  it was good.

ironic poem via my porch

she knew how i was going to look
in a second before i notice her.

the tree mound barricade
got branches broke.

from the fronch porch
i can see the second story

eave window,
just barely

and all catercorner -
she touches the edges of her mouth,

just so, i think;
her car was cheap.

i remember that much,
and the guy that drove

by, touching the corner
of his eye.

at this point,
i hope to never forget them.

the trees already growing
back.

Post-Denominational

The old broke down stone
house at the ranch

having been built long ago
by counterfeiters,

fireflies, moths,
the list goes on.

two plastic containers
of crushed red pepper.

two sounds from down
the hall of doors opening

after-hours.  the folks'
apparel's corners

sway, swish,
the list again.

the song, a step
ahead of you where yet

Jesus never ran,
only stands in the gaps

becoming the Gap,
Five-Fold;

fissures
from fossilized.

Now back
to the fireflies and moths.

Driving the BMW through Suburban Ghettos

Becoming the first
memory of a stranger:
She pretends to drive
her step-daddy's eighties
beat-to-hell Chevy Blazer
while he and her mommy
pack it up.  It seems
so obvious how
eviction pains
a family, but the blue
of her pre-school eyes
blinds you
as you drive by -
your eyes the silent
prayer that hopefully meets,
but maybe haunts, her dreams
for a handful of decades
to come, and then some.

10:33 PM - The Length of a Prayer
Category: Writing and Poetry

The Length of a Prayer

The afterthought has always been
death.   For instance, any day
across the street old Eleanor
will die.   Or, how at thirty-five
my contact list still grows
so much quicker than it dips.

Meanwhile, the teenagers lay under
some cottonwood or are stowed
away stoned in some loud basement
but can't be found
on Starbucks porches
this time of year, I can.

Where good 'ol Harley says "hi",
always quite jolly, and good
'ol John offers sturdy bi-monthly
advice on night-work
and lithium.   I'd stay awake
plenty to hear him out.

The ladies seem nervous, but know
how to push fragrant air around
as they wait for drinks
flashing left rings brushing
their hair to the side I never know
what it is they are trying to say.

Eventually, which seems to mean
two minutes, but is barely half
a minute, two seconds, most times
immediately we'll both look down.
I'll flip open my cell phone
and what am I trying to say,

as my eyes find the device, regardless
of any mysterious intent,
where I see my sweet baby front
and center.   Where my afternoon
appointments are thin lines interrupting
me from my full appreciation

of the momentous two-dimensional visage
on my tiny home screen.   Here my pride
is the daft yet understandable
assumption that later this tender
image will be personified as I arrive
at my front door, and I rely on it!

So, as I look up to see the ladies
move out into the world, drinks in tow,
time is now the afterthought
and death is but an unavoidable surprise.
It is here I succumb to a single brief moment,
like the child yet breaches them all.

4:30 AM - Cyclops
Current mood: spastic
Category: spastic Writing and Poetry

this poem was inspired by a painting intitled "finished"  by didi menendez - it is oil on canvas 24 X 36 inches.

"foreign to morse code" or "Cyclops"

with a left-eye twitch all day, no hologram
of under twenty-five - opaque
a birthday passed into the earth.

if this girl's mouth were eyes he'd call
her "cyclops", and get
on with it - leaving her

to break the gray-matter down to dust
for decades to come, but
he is not a ravished pagan,

duffel-bagging like schizophrenia logs
indoctrinated particulars
into cleverly pointed patterns

whose only remaining excuse is twitching
like the existential dilemma
of how shall i decorate?,

which he is enough of a pagan to appreciate
and even offer several
bi-partisan suggestions;

but that is "that" girl not this - if
"that" mouth were eyes
he'd cue up the beetles

on his iPhone, ignore all incoming messages,
while sun rays made
semi-permanent shadows,

highlighting the cut - the froth - the rank
of his rife mid-section
and iron jaw.
