The First Mad Cow

a little overdue pehaps, but a run down of events at the first ever Mad Cow Comedy Club.

Although the evening could have been better attended, it was a really pleasant and incredibly funny night.

Charlie Batchelor and her capable guitarist Marco, provided live music up to around 8.45 before Mr Nik Coppin took to the stage, (alright carpet) and set us on the road to hilarity. His likeable and easy going manner made him an instant friend to the audience, leaving them eager to recieve the first comedian of the night, John Newton.

Mr N performed exceptionally well, his quick delivery a winner and even with a little heckling from the promoter (sorry Johnny Boy) and some young chaps making comments about a punchline or two being 'a bit dark' triumphed as the opening act.

next up was Tony Cowards, who found his form immediately proving beyond a doubt he is one of comedy's up an comers.
Things that have been said about Tony Cowards are:
"Tony Cowards makes stupid jokes which are funny" - Ava Vidal
"Tony Cowards sang like a choirboy" - Steve Day (Radio 4)
"You're silly!" - Kurt, 5, West Wickham

all true!

and finally.. mad Cow welcomed it's first headline act.. the one.. the only.. Mr Steve Day!

His ability to form a bond with an audience was evident as he told his stories. with the exception of a few nurses who had been on Lambrini via IV since early on, Steve had the audience 100% in his hand to do with as he chose fit. In his sleep deprived state i'm pleased to say he chose to entertain them and make them laugh and think.

These four people are fantastic.. for their talent.. and for giving their services free of charge to help raise money fo St Nicholas Hospice, the benefactor of the fisrt Mad Cow Comedy Club.

Guys.. Mad Cow Comesy salutes you and is ever grateful!

it is also imperative that thanks are given to Matthew and captain Sanatogen, aka Tim for the impressive way in which they stepped into the breach when the slightly 'dippy' promoter managed to forget something quite important like the raffle tickets. A lottery based draw was thought up and within minutes set in motion by these two fabulous men.

in the end though as the prizes were won by Dips mother, step father, friend, headline act and two other people she swears she didn't know, it all looked like a bit of a fix despite Matthew and Tims best efforts. well it wouldn't have if Nik hadn't pointed it out! bad Coppin!

in conclusion.. it was a good night. The first of many!

Special thanks go to:

Cafe Rouge
Go Ape
The Greyhound, Wickhambrook
Morrisons
Lucky Break
St Nicholas Hospice
The Marquis of Cornwallis, Chedburgh
The Affleck Arms, Dalham
