Attention Military Friends!!!!!

If you are in the military or know someone who is in the military and you haven't already done so, please add my other profile. I'm also a veteran of the US Navy and an author. I would love to have you on both friends lists!
Hell yeah! Mad Squid will be appearing on the Underground Show (hip-hop) tonight at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time. This is a 2 1/2 hour show so even if you tune in late you'll be able to catch the Squid.
Then, at an as yet unkown time, Mad Squid will be airing the first ever Mad Squid Punk Show. It was the Squid's first attempt at a radio show and probably needs a lot of work, but the music played is EXCELLENT! If you want an hour of great punk with very little talk, tune in tomorrow (Tuesday) as well. It will be in the evening, but the time is still undertermined. Stay tuned.

Here it is! The intro for my daughter's cartoon. I'll probably still change some things like the music, and I'll add some sound f/x. Still, I think I'm on the right track. What do you think?
I realized this week that having a MySpace page becomes an interesting prospect once your friends list reaches a certain size. Now, at around 2300 friends, my list is by no means large. I've seen profiles boasting numbers in the tens of thousands. Still, it has taken on a new dynamic that many users are unaware of.
The first sign of change came at 1500 friends. Suddenly, the Bulletin section of my hompage was disabled and was replaced by a cute little notice about why this was. Apparently, it slows down the MySpace servers if they are tasked with updating bulletins back and forth for that many people. Mathematically, this makes sense to me --- of course I'm only a layman. But it underscored the fact that my MySpace world was a living one. It actually breathed.
This was personified in the rythmic pulsing that I observed in the size of my friends list. As my list continued to grow, I found that I had a new task to busy myself with --- delting friends. Why would anyone do this? Because you suddenly become aware of just how many profiles are created, and deleted, on a daily basis. Most of them, I believe, are profiles that were created by some unscrupulous entreprenuer who wanted you to join their porn site.
You can spot these from the get go because they usually have only a single photo on the profile, and it's always a gorgeous, young, scantily clothed woman with a coy smile on her jowl. She has in her description an explanation for this, claiming that she hasn't had time to update that particular profile, but that you can find more information or more photos of her on her other website, which is almost always at adultfriendfinder.com. Imagine that.
But I digress. When you go through your massive friends list, which is notoriously mal-intuitive when it comes to searching and sorting, you see a plethora of little, red X's. Why? Because they were flagged as spammers and deleted. Of course, MySpace doesn't automatically remove them from the system or anything. So they sit there in your list, festering like unpopped blisters. Only months later, when you go wading through the list to find some guy you served on a ship with a hundred years ago, do you find them and annialate them.
But how many statistics are in the hands of small businesses that show them as having 35,000 contacts on their profile, when something around --- and I'm guessing here --- 30% of them no longer even exist? How many dollars are being wasted on trying to nail a demographic that isn't even there?
Anyway, I just thought this was kind of interesting, so I figured I'd blog it.
Everyone needs to take a minute to watch this video. Mikey is young and intelligent, but he's also funny as hell. I'm working on a response video as we speak!
Just wanted to remind everyone that there are always some great opportunities out there for bands who have the drive and the commitment to take advantage of them. Here are two such examples:
This is a great place to get feedback from OTHER MUSICIANS. It's one thing to know that your fans like your tunes, but I find the comments and reviews that I get for my old band Never Again on GarageBand.com to be pretty valuable. Plus, it's a kick in the pants to watch your track climb the charts! The site employs a 5-star rating system as well as an overall chart. Very handy!
At SongVault, there is no 5-star system and the votes/ratings come from musicians and fans alike. Instead of the stars, you are only given a choice of thumbs up or thumbs down when you rate a song. However, according to CD Baby, there is a deal for free distro and free promo for bands that top the charts in their genre in any given month. This is something that small and underfunded bands can't afford to turn down. Am I right?
Anyway, I liked both of these enough to share the wealth with all of you! Enjoy, and good luck.
