Gaelic song and fiddle favorites
Current mood: lonely
Category: Music

Lately I have been into listening and fiddling along to the fiddling of Kevin Burke along with the late Michael O'Dhomhnaill on guitar and Gaelic vocals in the album  ' Portland '   My favorite track is  ' Lucy's fling/ S' iomadh rud a chunnaic mi / Some say the devil's dead .   These are Highlands or Donegal tunes with Scottish roots.   The Gaelic vocals of Michael O' Dhomhnaill are amazing on  S 'iomdh ...   It is by far my favorite Gaelic song as far as melody is concerned .  It makes me want to kick my heels up and Scottish step .  dance.   S' iomadh... makes for a very nice Old Time Appalachian style fiddle tune, ( playing it every day now )

The other album is ' Eavesdropper ' , a  classic from fiddler Kevin Burke and  acccordionist  Jacky Daley.  The whole album is great, my favorite tune however is

' The Burnt Old Man '  ( An Seanduine doit  )   This makes for a nice Cape Breton style Jig , which I continuely try to master. The Scot/Irish crossover band

' Relativity '     with Triona & Michael O' Dhomhnaill , Johnny & Phil Cunningham do a great Gaelic vocal verson of this as well.  It is very similair to the Scottish Highland Pipe Tune ,  ' The Campbells are coming '  Does anyone know of a recording of this tune in the Cape Breton style ?  It would very much be appreciated,  Morain Taing, Many Thanks,  Cody

Kevin Burke and Mícheál O'Domhnaill
