My pick for President.
I'm a big fan of men who have served our country (obviously :-) and have always believed in the conservative values of the Republican party. I think Sarah Palin is a great pick for VP and am excited to vote later this year!
John McCain for president!
"I believe in evolution. But I also believe, when I hike the Grand Canyon and see it at sunset, that the hand of God is there also." - John McCain "I am a Republican. I'm loyal to the party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. And I believe that my party, in some ways, has strayed from those principles, particularly on the issue of fiscal discipline." - John McCain
"I believe in the strength and the power of women, and the potential of every human life." - GOP Vice President candidate, Sarah Palin "In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change." - GOP Vice President candidate, Sarah Palin

We’re having a baby!
We're expecting
Some weeks ago, after realizing I had missed my period, I took a pregnancy test and the result came out positive. The first emotion that ran through my mind was disbelief. Without reaction, I called David, placed the test on my dresser and continued to work on my laptop. When he arrived we both smiled and looked lovingly at each other – a wave of astonishment, anxiety and affection enveloped the room that night. While I took the surprising news in stride, for weeks I was admittedly in denial. I had a hard time believing we had conceived a baby and that it now existed inside of me. I had a hard time experiencing a life situation I couldn't control. And naturally, I would've liked to have our wedding first and then our child…but I accept the scheme of things today - I am no longer on my life's pretend time table anymore… I am and have always been, on God's time table. My family and friends took the news with an unexpected excitement. Many knew David and I were a solid couple and were thrilled we were conceiving a child. Others knew I enjoyed children and were ecstatic to see me as a great mother... It was a great feeling to receive love, support and excitement - although in the last few weeks, I've cycled feelings of anxiety, happiness, fears, hopes and enthusiasm. I've discussed with friends, I've conversed with priests, and I've prayed each day. As imperfect as I continuously admit I am, I know for certain that regardless of life's hills and valleys – I have always triumphed and evolved to a better woman each day. Life has given me so many blessings and now, I have been given a gift and am now bringing a blessing to this world. While the baby was unplanned, the good news is: is that David was planned. We were planning on having kids and it so happened to be sooner rather than later. For the last few years, many have witnessed me grow, change and evolve from a young woman, to a social entrepreneur and now a wife and mother. There is no doubt in my body that all my present experiences is a piece of my personal destiny – and so as I continue to openly write, candidly express these changes and honestly share thoughts, feelings and emotions…I also know I am documenting a distinctly new chapter in my life. I'm very excited. The rest of our lives will be an unpredictable adventure that will match every fun day of our first year together. Thank you to all those who have already written me - God Bless.
We're having a baby! (at Christine's wedding on July 19th) I can't believe there's a baby inside of me! Shot taken a couple days ago - I'm almost 4 months now!!! Here I am sticking it out from the side view.

My engagement story!
David proposed to me today.
After arriving downtown to meet him for lunch, we began walking around and decided to stop inside the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Since we often visit old churches, I wasn't suspicious when we walked in and stood in front of the alter gazing at the artwork, the colors and the religious essence that surrounded the dark room. Holding my hand tight, he looked at me and said, "Maria you know I love you." And I stared at him and said, "I know you do…and I do too."
He then said, "There was a lot of preparation and planning involved in the building of this church…" (David enjoys giving me history lessons) he then said, "…just like there was a lot of preparation and planning that went into this day."
My eyes enlarged.
As he began dropping down to one knee I began to panic and tried grabbing his shoulders, for I had envisioned this moment, but was never prepared to experience it.
He opened a black box with a bright diamond sitting squarely in its center. I could rarely see through my tears when he asked, "Will you marry me?"
And after the longest second of my life…
I said yes.
As we kissed and embraced I could hear a wave of emotion in the room of people praying and watching. He then said this was the first proposal held at this church and everyone was here to witness. He pointed to the director praying to my left, the nuns watching on the sidelines and most surprising of all…he pointed to my family and friends smiling from the church balcony, sharing and recording every moment of this very special day.
I knew I was going to marry him the moment we met. Besides being dark, handsome and charismatic…he had an endearing energy that was humbly different than people I have met before. We talked about traveling, we dreamt about family and we agreed on what kind of ideal love was needed in a unified marriage. Since our union, we've traveled cross country and to Hawaii, we've engaged with family activities, we've fought, we've forgiven …but most of all, we have flourished.
I love David and I can't wait to be his wife.
I was emailed the letter he sent out to local friends when preparing for today and almost cried again after reading it: --- Hello all,
For those who can make it, it is going to be at 10:45 am, in the Cathedral in Sacramento today (Wednesday) June 18th, 2008. Maria and I will come in around that time and I will lead her to the front of the church and then pop the question. She does not know anything is planned.
For those attending, you can park right next to the church, they have a parking garage in the alley way. Make time to get around. Everyone will enter and go up the steps on the left. You will have the best view in the house.
For those who cannot attend, Please feel free to contact, text, call, email her around 12 (noon) because she will be excited.
For those who can't make it, I have attached pictures of the ring.
After talking with Mrs. Kang she introduced me to Michael Greene, a well known jeweler who has done work for many celebrities.
We talked about what I envisioned; Mike then took two months traveling all over the US. The day came when he called me and said "David, I want you to come in and look at something, I think you may like it." See, a diamond takes millions of years to grow deep within the earth. The heat and pressure forge them into the hardest known substance on Earth. They take even longer to reach the surface where they are found. When I look at it, I know that I came along way to get where it is now and is going to be. The name diamond derives from the ancient Greek (adamas) "invincible", "untamed".
Upon getting to his office and after his secretary provided me with a glass of water, Mike came out and sat with me at the viewing table. He smiled than pulled out the gem and sat it before me. Needless to say I was stunned and I was speechless, not unlike the first time I met Maria.
I don't like diamonds, never have, but this one diamond made me see why they are valued. To me, it's not the price; it was the journey to find perfection that Michael took, the same journey I took to find Maria. It took time and effort, detail and persistence, patience and wisdom.
When a man knows what he is holding in his hand, it's as clear in his mind as it is flawless in his dreams.
Thank you, David
 this is my ring!!! :)

800 Dogs seized from Mobile Home!
I was STUNNED when I heard the news of this occurence last night from my uncle. Check it out:
--------
TUCSON, Ariz. (March 12) - About 800 small dogs, including Chihuahuas, terriers and Pomeranians, were seized from a triple-wide mobile home whose occupants were overwhelmed trying to care for the animals, authorities said Wednesday.
Pima County sheriff’s deputies and animal welfare officials who removed the dogs also found 82 caged parrots in the home in a rural area northwest of Tucson.
Some dogs were pregnant and giving birth as they were taken to shelters in Tucson, said Jenny Rose, a spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Ninety-six dogs were taken from the house Monday and another 700 on Wednesday, she said.
"The home was definitely in very bad condition, urine and feces all over the home, in the kitchen and bedroom, with a very strong odor," she said. "Obviously, 800 dogs in a triple-wide mobile home, they were packed in there. That being said, they were in pretty good shape."
The elderly owners, who have not been identified, were apparently overwhelmed but have cooperated with authorities, sheriff’s Sgt. James Ogden said. No charges have been filed, but authorities continue to investigate.
The animals appeared to have had enough food, but a few were missing paws - some from having been attacked by other animals, others apparently having caught their feet in fencing outside, Rose said.
The breeds included Chinese cresteds and Lhasa apsos. The owners were breeding and offering the dogs for sale, Rose said, but she described it as a hoarding case, in which elderly people sometimes feel no one else can give their animals a good home and won’t part with them.
Deputies were alerted this month after a woman who bought a Chihuahua at the home reported the conditions, Ogden said.
The dogs living inside the house apparently had free run of the premises, Ogden said. Others were found in other structures on the property.
Ogden described the living conditions as "horrible, filth everywhere ... probably one of the worst (situations) I’ve ever seen."
The animals will be offered for adoption soon, Rose said, adding that a rescue group from Phoenix had taken 100 of the dogs.

Fitness Without Borders is OFFICIAL!!!
Last Thursday I had GREAT NEWS! I went to my mailbox and received my new Business Cards AND my Official IRS documents with my Tax-Exempt Number! My new Fitness NonProfit, my baby: Fitness Without Borders, is now officially out of my womb! Below is our Mission, Vision and Programs. Right now I am working on finalizing the website, preparing for our first convention attendance in 3 weeks and managing the grant submissions and fundraising schedules. I created a myspace account for this organization to network with other influencers. CLICK HERE TO BE our FRIEND~! ——— MISSION: Fitness Without Borders (FWB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2007. FWB is devoted to the development and fitness education of community leaders organized in a unified effort to foster healthy children. We work primarily, but not exclusively, in underprivileged neighborhoods, in order to build self-reliance, health, and capacity. VISION: Fitness without Borders is a California, public benefit, non-profit, fitness education organization dedicated to inspire underprivileged and unhealthy children to be fit, active and inspired by positive, healthy role models in their home, school and communities. Our programs are geared to promote fitness education, instill healthy habits and unite communities. - Adult Education Workshops
- Fitness Field Trips
- Donated Sports Equipment
- Fitness Camps
- Leadership Academies
Adult Education Workshops are free, weekly, fitness and nutrition classes open to the public. These classes are conducted by professional volunteers and are focused on community development through support and unity. Fitness Field Trips are active 'adventure' trips provided to underprivileged kids who lack financial resources to go hiking, biking, sailing, skiing, skating and swimming. These fieldtrips are organized quarterly and are focused on friendship, fitness and fun. Donated Sports Equipment: FWB donates sports equipment and fitness/nutrition books to community sports/fitness programs where the youth lack resources and the financial support base to gain access to athletic supplies. Fitness Camps are organized each summer for kids ages 8-14. These camps focus on developing self esteem, athletic confidence and wellness knowledge. FWB's Leadership Academy target community and youth leaders to become healthy role models to the people they impact. These leaders are taken through a 12 week transformation and education program, which assists them to teach, motivate and inspire their area of influence. —- My hope is to create a successful organization that will have stellar operations and an ability to transform, motivate and ignite communities to make huge strides in their personal health and ability to take ownership of their lives. Right now, I will be acting as Executive Director/Founder - in the future, I hope to pass this torch to someone who is passionate, determined and can move mountains. I just designed and ordered these brochures for an event coming up on March 1st. yay!! wooohooo!!! I'm sooo excited!
RIGHT NOW the website is being developed by an awesome guy - it is www.fitnesswithoutborders.org .....since it's in transition, it is forwarding straight to my personal site, so stay tuned!! READ ABOUT OUR FIRST BOARD MEETING HERE.

My vote for President is...
Mike Huckabee. www.mikehuckabee.com
Faith . Family . Freedom - HEY! That's 90% of what I mostly blog about!
The last 10%, which is FITNESS, isn't part of his campaign headline, but it's evident that this Arkansas Governer loves that too as he lost 110 pounds of FAT.
Sure, I highly doubt a Republican will win this year - but it doesn't mean I won't vote for the underdog!
DON'T FORGET TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE! ----
He's lost over 110 pounds and has ran MANY marathons! He instituted a healthy program for his state. He is PROLIFE!"I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. As President, I will fight for passage of this amendment. My convictions regarding the sanctity of life have always been clear and consistent, without equivocation or wavering. I believe that Roe v. Wade should be over-turned." - M. Huckabee HE is guided by Faith. (and he's not afraid to say it!)"My faith is my life - it defines me. My faith doesn't influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don't separate my faith from my personal and professional lives. Real faith makes us humble and mindful, not of the faults of others, but of our own. It makes us less judgmental, as we see others with the same frailties we have. Faith gives us strength in the face of injustice and motivates us to do our best for "the least of us." Our nation was birthed in a spirit of faith - not a prescriptive one telling us whether to believe, but one acknowledging that a providence pervades our world." - M. Huckabee
He supports a "Veterans' Bill of Rights."
"I support the following VETERANS' BILL OF RIGHTS for issues that are not being adequately addressed: The right to a mandatory rather than a discretionary mechanism for funding veterans' health care, to eliminate year-to-year uncertainty that the funds they need will be there for them The right to obtain full and clear explanation of all benefits and comprehensive assistance in obtaining those benefits. The right to have a claim processed within six months." - M. Huckabee Read more here.---- Some of his issues I have hard time battling with:-While I think we SHOULD pull out of Iraq, I also think that as the World's Hegemon, the U.S. needs to find a long term solution and lead that country rather than quickly pulling out. - While I think we SHOULD grant Amnesty to all illegal immigrants who are in our country right now, I also understand that low-paying jobs hurt the unemployed, the illegal immigrants and our overall economy. So we need to find long term solutions and penalty to illegal immigrants and those who EMPLOY them. - Lastly, I need to hear more about the ENVIRONMENT!!!! :-) For those reading and are living in California, don't forget to VOTE on Tuesday!!!! Check out The Final Sprint's Podcast with Mike! In 2003, Mike learned that he had developed adult-onset (type-2) diabetes and would not live more than 10 years without losing weight. Faced with his own mortality, Mike decided to completely change his life. He took up running, significantly altered his diet, lost 110 pounds and completed several marathons. Mike continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle, runs on a regular basis and has become a passionate national advocate for proper health and nutrition. Download the podcast to hear about Mike's life-saving battle with obesity, how his experience has influenced his plans for health care reform as a 2008 candidate for the U.S. presidency, his advice for others and much more! ---

My 12 week challenge.
Since I've been home I've been storing healthy meals in Tupperware containers, drawing up charts, writing down lists, organizing my belongings and visually preparing for the next 12 weeks. This year, my plan is to outdo my personal best. Physically, I want to be in the best shape of my life and progressively become a healthy role model. Professionally, I want to establish my roots in book publishing, motivational speaking and the nonprofit world. Personally, I want to grow closer in understanding and love with my parents, my friends and with David. Lastly, I want to continue my spiritual quest to learn from each moment, and appreciate why God presents all of us with both 'good' and 'bad' experiences. It took me a long time to finally get 'here' – a place in my heart where I was ready to close the past and look only towards the future. In these last years, I felt imprisoned by my own mental fears of the extremes I knew I could achieve both positive and negative. The last time I achieved this level of focus I was at my peak as a competitor, a college graduate and a new fitness manager. However, the transitions in my life caused me to take my talented ability to be driven, determined, focus and persistent into a harmful spiral downwards – a route in which nothing was ever 'good enough' and 'achieving happiness' was an artificial reality only dead minds conceded to believe. It is in those moments I manifested the emptiness I felt in my soul. I tried to 'seize' control over my insecurities by trying to hold on to all outward objects that 'secured' me – But as spiritual law will soon reveal: as soon as you try to hold onto something…you start losing it. For life isn't about how much we tangibly control, life is about how much we can grow and grasp every conscious second realizing that we are not in control of anything but our own intangible being. We all live our life in the regrets of our past and the hopes of our future. In these self-reflective years, I was never 'ready' to take on focus I achieved before because I was continuously angry at myself for being anything less than 'perfect'. I was scared of the anxious woman I knew I 'could' become. Lastly, I didn't fully forgive myself for being influenced by all the things I was conditioned to become. We are all conditioned to be who we are today. For we all live, behave and operate robotically under a sustained way of thinking and simulated was of living. And as long as we choose to live under life's circumstances, we will fail to overcome these circumstances by first living in the internal and not external world. We must realize that when we see a limit, it becomes constraining. When we form a problem, it becomes difficult… When we try to fix a 'limiting problem' by changing our external conditions, we begin living in a world of no control. Your emotions, your life and your chosen circumstances will be dictated by the seasons of this physical world. Exist in the spiritual world. Live, in the eternity that exists within you. Know, that nothing absorbs you unless you allow it. Grasp, that you can manifest any journey by first living its truth in your mind first. Today is my truth.

What is Jealousy?
I was sent this via email and thought it was an interesting write up on the issue of JEALOUSY.
You know - it many of my past relationships, I've never experienced extreme levels of possessiveness...however, whenever I felt one was trying to 'control' me, I felt caged and left soon after.
I've been having a lot of discussions about envy, jealousy and so forth so I am interested in other's opinions.
Please read the below story and sincerely choose either A or B and state why. In your answers please provide your own story of jealousy if possible and what you feel is the root cause. THANKS.
-----
"To a woman the first kiss is just the end of the beginning; to a man it's the beginning of the end." —Helen Rowland Try to imagine that your loved one has become romantically interested in someone else. And then try to envision which scenario would bother you more: (a) learning that your partner has fallen in love with that person or
(b) discovering that your partner has had meaningless sex with that person.
Obviously, both situations are painful to think about, but chances are one of these bothers you more than the other. And just as likely, your gender has a lot to do with which one causes you the most anguish. Both men and women experience jealousy and according to David Buss, Ph.D., professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Texas, this is both healthy and necessary to the fitness of a faithful relationship. In The Dangerous Passion: Why Jealousy Is As Necessary As Love and Sex," Buss describes his survey of women and men in the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Korea and Zimbabwe. The majority of women interviewed were troubled more about a partner's emotional infidelity, while the men were most upset about sexual transgressions. The differing grounds for jealousy between men and women reveal highly adaptive responses for the human species. Since fertilization takes place inside the female body, it is difficult to determine paternity with any real certainty. The ancestral man was therefore unable to know whether he was, in fact, the real father of his children. "Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe" Female sexual infidelity jeopardized the opportunity for a man to continue his gene pool and also placed him in the unfortunate situation of raising a rival's children. Women do not share this problem, since they know that they are the biological mothers of their children. One of the African cultures that Buss studies uses the phrase, "Mama's baby, Papa's maybe." But our ancestral mothers had other problems. Their challenge was to continue to attract their partner so that he would stay and help to raise and protect the children. As painful as a sexual transgression might be, what women have always wanted to know is, "Do you love her?" If a man forms a strong emotional attachment to another woman, he is at risk for abandoning the relationship and his children. A meaningless one-night stand does not make him want to leave his family. Jealously Is the Root of… Human jealousy has roots in our reproductive past and has probably endured because it serves its ultimate purpose, to help ward off potential rivals. While men and women may get jealous about different things, our jealous behavior is often similar — evil glares, threatening comments, and sometimes even violent and dangerous actions against potential rivals. Buss writes, "Jealousy is not a sign of immaturity, but rather a supremely important passion that helped our ancestors, and most likely continues to help us today, to cope with a host of real reproductive threats. It drives us to keep partners from straying with tactics such as escalating vigilance or showering a partner with affection. And it communicates commitment to a partner who may be wavering, serving an important purpose in the maintenance of love." (The Dangerous Passion: Why Jealousy Is As Necessary As Love and Sex, The Free Press, N.Y., 2000, pp. 5-6).

Yesterday - our country experienced yet ANOTHER public shooting by a depressed teenager. How out of control has this become? I remember first hearing about Columbine and feeling sick to my stomach my Freshman year of college....and now, how many shootings later?
What is the cause?
Is it guns? Is it media? Is it culture?
Is it Lack of LOVE? Lack of Faith? Lack of Family?
I think it's all of the above.
Here are my thoughts:
Firstly: we shouldn't blame gun sellers, magazines, bad parents or whatever religion that child was. We can't blame nor judge because we REALLY DON'T KNOW what causes someone to perform such a demonic act. (of course, I have to mention that I firmly believe that when one doesn't have GOD in their life, it creates egotistic, depressed actions)
Secondly: the best thing we can do for humanity is to examine all those variables and see how we can be progressive.
Thirdly: stop idolizing and supporting shows/news (especially reality shows) that promote the CELEBRITY. I was SICKENED to see the list of people Barbara Walters chose to be the most fascinating people. What have these people done to better humanity?
In her interview, Victoria Beckham was asked if she ever eats a cake or a cookie. And she said "NO" - am I promoting fatness? Of course not! But I do believe in moderation and I don't support body image disorders and extreme thinness.
Her NO answer reminds me of the boy who committed suicide after shooting 9 people and wounding others...
You are basically DYING to be famous. When you are physically, emotionally, spiritually dead... you cease to exist exactly as you are. You fail to see life for the beauty that it is....and most of all, you stop REVERING gifts of this world, including the lives of human beings.
Let us pray for those who passed and to those who pass every day.
God Bless all of you.

Is your man Chocolate or Brocolli?
I have an inside joke.
I'm going to expose it since David was so kind to create a new category (who renames himself, 'Chocolate covered Brocolli..which I concur) and my gal pals are going CRAZY on their 'diet' lately.
So here's the deal: I have TONS of girlfriends...tons of single gals who go on dates with guys who are either:
1) Hot and Sexy
or
2) Average and Nice
I have coined the term CHOCOLATE and BROCOLLI. (I used these metaphors due to my fitness-y background. OH! And this is a phrase copyrighted by Maria Kang :-) J/K!)
Men who are Chocolate are those who are just SINFUL to be with. Like chocolate, it tastes good, you crave for it, you LOVE IT, but in the long run...it's just NOT good for you.
Men who are Brocolli are those who are GOOD for you. Like Brocolli, it's bland, kinda tasteless, you don't really like it, but you'll eat it...because in the long run...it's IS good for you.
haha - now the joke's out! Whatya all think?
 mmmmm....yummy! hmmm....sure, why not?

9 Factoids about me.
THANK YOU STEPHANIE - for making me participate in something I would've loved in Junior High! Okay so here we go.
------
A. Each Player starts with 9 random facts/habits about themselves. B. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their 9 things and post these rules. C. At the end of your blog you need to choose 9 people to get tagged and list their names. Can only be people who haven't been tagged yet. D. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they are tagged and to read your blog. Here goes:
1) I eat salads 1-3 times/day. Ever since I read "The Miracle of Fasting" 4 years ago, I've loved eating raw foods.
2) I sleep with my dog on my chest. He sleeps like a baby in my arms and I loooovvvee his nose and ears!
3) I love, love, love, love my niece and nephew. They are sooooo adorable. I can't wait to have kids of my own one day.
4) I was Bulimic from 2003-2006. It was like hell on earth. My story is here.
5) The only program I really watch on TV is Oprah and I never watch the news. Most DVD's I rent have to do with spirituality or religion. Right now I am typing this while watching "Conversations with God."
6) I can get ready in 10 minutes or less. I can get ready for a pageant in 20 minutes :-)
7) I write EVERY day. I write in my diary, for newspapers, magazines, bb.com, my fitness website and my personal site. (although I haven't written for bb.com for a while...I'm waiting for inspiration!)
8) I laugh a lot.
9) I'm a HUGE romantic and have always believed I'd be married young.
Next Up!!!! 1. Dan 2. Erick (Ginobli) 3. Boryna 4. Chris G 5. Safiya 6. Tanji 7. Zakiya 8. Margee 9. David
