noel gallagher said i should "learn three chords on the guitar and go write a tune". so i just wanted him to know that i'm actually taking guitar lessons from Jay-Z right now and he's already taught me both chords to "Wonderwall" (tune!). in fact, it's so much fun having Jay teach me all of noel's songs on the guitar (hooray!) that i"m thinking of doing an Oasis/Jay Z remix album a la "The Grey Album". Potential titles are "Champagne Superhova" or "Definitely Jay Z"*. I'll keep you posted....

p.s. check out around :37
p.p.s. noel, i did write a song called "back to black", which actually has 7 chords in it
i can't believe the love that we've been shown over the past sixteen or so months. if i never play another note of guitar on stage after this sunday, i could die happy with a million memories. all the crew, musicians and singers that came on the road with us, you're lovely. and most of all, all of you that came to see us play, i hope we left you elated and elevated in some form or another.
THE OLD GANG this sunday at lollapalooza in chicago will be our last gig of the run, maybe even the last time we play any of these Version tunes ever. i'm f***king thrilled to say that we'll be joined once again by Alex Greenwald (who's been off with his own band, Phantom Planet, for a while), Daniel Merriweather, Tiggers, Tim Burgess, Kenna, Rhymefest, Wale, Plastic Little, Tawiah, Stuart Zender, and more. I couldn't think of a finer bunch of people to take a curtain call with, so I'll hope you come and watch us.
Otherwise, all i can is say is "thank you", like a broken alanis morrisette record.
P.S. "FLYER THAN THE PIECE OF PAPER BEARING MY NAME"..... one of the highlights of all this sh** had to be playing guitar with jay z on psa.....
i hate commenting on this bullsh*t but there's some story going around saying that i refused the sexual advances of joss stone and also said she was some "boring, bland soul chick" or something. let me set the record straight a.) i was definitely not referring to joss stone in that quote and b.) i've never actually met her. i'm sure she's a nice person and she has a lovely voice so i wanted to address this rubbish story and apologise to ms. stone, who kind of gets enough sh*t in the press as it is without being drawn into my tabloid drivel.

so me and dj eli have been in the booth the past two weeks and the shows have been fairly jonathan blaze, especially last night--where a lovely man named Nikolai Fraiture (whose day job includes playing bass in the Strokes) came by and played us some of his upcoming solo record. we also world premiered a new Nas song feat. Busta Rhymes (that i produced) and eli played brilliantly as always.

wednesday: flew to LA and went to the first ever US NME awards. you may ask why i bothered going to an award show for the NME (who continually slag me off), but the fact is my mate Santogold was winning an award and they asked me to present it to her. so i said yes. i also ended up winning an award for best international solo artist (it will be on ebay soon, if anyone wishes to bid on it). anyway, i got pretty drunk, grumpy and irritable and started to go on stage and accept awards for anyone really, whether i was invited or not. i accepted awards on behalf of the klaxons ("thank you this is a huge honour for us...", the arctic monkeys (although i thought it was the klaxons award), heckled perez hilton ("get off the stage, you f***kin' nonce!"--deservedly though), and then, for the final act of disobedience, me and stef halperin ran on stage while tom (yes, THE tom of myspace. all of our first friend) was presenting some award to the whogivesash*t's and i fell into the stage curtain and decided to stay down for a while til i regained a fraction of my pride. then i went to watch jane's addiction down front and grab a mcdonald's while everyone else went out to rock n roll afterparties.
to give you a sense of the night, here is a before and after picture:
BEFORE
AFTER
thursday: recovery, then more drinking
friday: tons of rehearsal, then a drive to the desert
saturday: saw the cold war kids (brilliant), mgmt (couldn't get near the tent, but sounded amazing), erol alkan (awesome as always). then we played. i was pretty nervous because we were doing quite a bit of stuff we don't usually do, with alot of guest performers. here are some pictures of said guest performers
Samuel Sparro
Charles Richard Wilson
Timothy Burgess, Charles Richard Wilson, James Reynolds, Kellithy Osbourne III, Mark Daniel Ronson and Candace Payne
Someone's back, Stuart Zender and Markothy Ronson Jr.
Kellabelle Osbourne the Fourth, Markamuel Ronsonian and David Michael Hasselhoff
the show was okay, it went buy a little fast for my liking but whatevers.....a giant thank you to everyone who came out for our set
sunday: swervedriver (saw one song but was good), spiritualized (amazing), simian mobile disco (incredible)
then i came back to london and we're playing a sh*tload of shows in the next few weeks. should be brilliant. lots of guests which will be different on certain shows, including the Burg-man, Sparro, Plastic Little, Candie Payne, Tawiah, Kenna, Tiggas etc... check us out if you're in liverpool, london, germany, wolverhampton or nottingham. word up xo
