C O V E R S T O R Y :

The self-proclaimed Wizard of Odd, Marcus Koch is a rising personality. His directorial debut film 'Rot' has reached cult status. Ten years later, he is a vastly sought after FX artist known mostly for his detail to gore and showers of blood. With the future release of his second feature film '100 Tears', Koch is high on the trail of success.career and future.

Guts of the Issue:

A tribute to the one and only Vampira. She was the original horror host and one of the iconic figures of the fifties, yet her TV show lasted but a single season.

The horror genre has lost one of its best friends, Horror host I. Zombi, or for those who knew him personally, Hayden Milligan. A unique person some of you may have met, or just seen at various conventions and trade shows around the country. Join us in a touching tribute from someone very close to him.

In a few short years Christopher Kahler has come from seemingly nowhere to become one of the most sought out members of the independent movie industry. People sometimes ask if he is a writer, director, editor, boom operator, FX guy or what…the answer is a resounding YES. He truly is "The Swiss
Army Knife" of independent movie making.

Go behind the scenes with Eve on Sweatshop. A high action, flash back to the 80's slasher film from director Stacy Davidson.

Judas Priest - ’Nostradamus’, My Thoughts

Judas Priest - "Nostradamus"
2008 Epic Records
http://judaspriest.com
Reviewed by Marquis DeBlood

First off be warned. This is a concept album. Abet, more of a rock opera/musical and as Rob said many times over, most 'JP' fans will most likely pan it, nor will they get it. It's more of a personal achievment & accomplishent. Oh, sure other performers, such as Alice Cooper, Queensryche and the like have done something like this in the past but we're not talking about them. We're talking about Judas Priest & the epic "Nostradamus".

With that being said, I gotta give 'JP' props for doing this, as we all know how "open minded" & "compasionate" metalheads are...

So, as a musician & music lover, here is my review:

If you like musicals/rock opera's such as "Phantom of the Opera", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Sweeny Todd" and so on, you are going to love 'Nostradamus'! The orchestral arrangements are beautiful, heartfelt and bridge flawlessly between and throughout the album. Rob's vocals are powerful, that ooze emotion & conviction. Almost operatic. Glenn & KK's playing is exceptional and dimentional. It's alot of work to write and create a monster such as this and to make it ebb and flow without a hitch (which it does), is no small feat. Props to them for tackleing such a challenge. The album as a whole is dark and brooding with an intensity that only draws the listener into the world & fate of the character. The album wonderfully creates a portrait of the lonley & troubled life of Nostradamus as seen through the eyes of Judas Priest.

I recommend listening to the album it in it's context (with head phones), take it all in and get swept away within the world 'JP' has created. Look at it as more of a theatrical performance with act 1 & act 2 as opposed to a rock/metal album with disc 1 & 2.

If your looking for an overblown full on metal in your face, up your ass & out your ears album, you will be sadly disappointed. Yes, there are a few thrashers on here but not enough to appease the screaming mindless minions of metal.

It's definatly a difinative album and I would love to see this performed live with a full orchestra.

Again, this is not for everyone but if your a fan of music, go in with an open mind and absorb it all as it should be, then you will love and appreicte it for what it is, a concept album and not what most hoped it would be, another "Painkiller".

High points:

"Prophecy", "Sands of Time", "Pestilence & Plague", "Death", the heartfelt "Lost Love", "Persecution", "Exiled", the sing along "Alone" (sure to be a Classic anthem), "Shadows in the Flames", "Visions", the touching "Hope", "New Beginings", "Nostradamus" & and the brutal truth of "Future of Mankind".

As Rob states, "We don't wanna belong, We said all along, We just want to be..."

I LOVE IT!!

A Tragedy Unfolds: A Collection of Tragic Poetry, Lyrics and Short Stories

A Collection of Poetry, Lyrics and Short Stories. As you can tell by the title, the subject matter is a bit grim and there are no happy endings, no one riding off into the sunset or living happily ever after. Within these pages, tales of misery, woe, loss and despair dwell. The stuff that life is made of. Some may find it morbid but I hope many enjoy wandering down the dark dismal passages of the unfortunate and the down trodden. Hoping they do not succumb to the same fate as those confined to these pages...

Review from Pauly Psychotic

A Tragedy Unfolds - Mark Dickinson is at it again, with this brand new collection of poetry, lyrics and you guessed it short stories! When three high school kids are on a Halloween prank they find something not so worth laughing about in "A Scary Halloween Tale". A little boy sees his own death in the most hideous event in "White Owl", and when a construction worker is remodeling an old house, he finds a key that would forever leave him cursed for life in, "The Key". These are some of the most wonderful short stories, poetry and lyrics ever written. You will die a most hideous death if you do not read this book. It will chill you, it will thrill you. This book will make even your very soul shiver and crawl with goose bumps.

Again, purchase this book, for you will not be sorry after reading these spine-numbing gems!

Being a band and creating a concept/soundtrack album is never an easy thing. Add to this task losing your longtime vocalist, which means becoming a trio, and most bands would just opt to throw in the shroud and call it an evening. But Mark Dickinson has never been one to let little things, much less fairly large hurdles, get in his way. And with the release of Broken Vessels, he takes the melancholic brand of gothic horror metal he created years ago into a new incarnation. Different, but with a dread sense of déjà vu; like walking into a funeral parlor and seeing yourself in the casket, just for one brief second. Sure, you know one day it's bound to be your turn, but just not today.

With a running time of only nineteen minutes, Others pull no punches on this release. From the opening track Whispering Winds, which comes across like a lightning rod falling off of a church steeple and plunging straight through your body, to the title track, which virtually bleeds out of your speakers, this album is tight as a noose. Mark even hands over lyrical duties (no small feat when you've got a talent for prose like his) on one of the songs, utilizing the amazing poetry of Troy Usher (a man whose dark verses are the stuff most black metal bands wish they could write) for the track Murder, Pain, and Farewells. This melding of macabre minds is enough to send weaker listeners over the edge and into a nice padded room with Thorazine cocktails every hour on the hour. One of the true highlights, Brilliant Reflections, is like a psychic surgeon slowly reaching through your flesh, into your chest, and showing you your own inner workings. Simply wonderful!

But that's just the beginning of this album. Also included here is the incidental music from the film; creepy orchestral pieces that make the flesh crawl and the goose bumps appear. Honestly, is there anything these guys can't do? There aren't many bands these days, if ever, that can make the transition on the same album from driving dark rock to haunting symphonic brilliance (Cradle Of Filth is the only one that immediately comes to mind).

While these tracks create the perfect film in your minds eye, you won't have to wait to long for the real thing. Others are going to be releasing the actual film (directed by none other than Mark Dickinson himself) very soon. So get a hold of this disc quick; then you can compare your vision of Broken Vessels to the bands vision. My bet on whose is scarier…well, I've been Mark's friend for years now, and I wouldn't want to share nightmares with him!

Description:
Herein I chronicle my final days. They are a terrible saga in and of themselves. Through love comes tragedy and the passion I bore was both genuine and morose. By my own doing I was the end of my kind. Ironic isn't it? How creating someone or something in your own image can be your ultimate down fall. I have survived through generations of chaos only to fall victim to what has always been known as a gift. My beautiful dark gift turned malevolent. I will now rewind the hands of time for you, so you may all join me in retrospect of my dark lament... Phyllop Desmodus – The Last Vampyr

Here's what people are saying;

After the interest garnered by his first two books of poetry and lyrics, Embrace The Darkness and Blood Soaked Moon respectively, Mark has set out to broaden his career with short fiction, a decision that has paid off in spades.
The Last Vampyr is Mark Dickinson's newest foray into the dark realm of written horror and deftly recounts the final days of the last of his species, Phyllop Desmodus, in a journal style that will have you reading as fast as your eyes are capable of, just to see what happens to this immortal character. We are shown his loves, losses, highs and lows, all in a wonderfully written package that truly has you believing this is a long lost tome found deep in a cave, just as the introduction states.
This is what independent horror fiction is all about, setting a frightening mood, telling a good story, and weaving the fabric of a character that you would really want to meet. Sure at times he's not a saint, but who is? Phyllop's story is one hell of a read, and the genesis of a genuinely great creature.
It won't be long before Mark's work is right up there along side other great horror luminaries, so pick up a copy of this novelette now, before his work becomes a collectors item that only the truly wealthy can afford!

I really liked your take on the vampyres. It's different.I love the story of the vampire more than any yarn ever created. The story has a lot of personality too.Very nice, err I mean how tragic. You even left it in the air with the people you mentioned with the inside out skin.Very nice. - maven

Hey Mark,

I read some of the testimonies peeps wrote about your book,, "The Blair Witch" was more hype than great story telling (good nonetheless), but your story has a lot more passion into it -- "The Last Vampire" would make a great film if it was done right!!!! The thing you have going for you in your work is the honesty you put into it,, true passion is lacking in a lot of movies made these day. I think the modern-day audience is looking for honesty in story telling.

I wish I had the budget to make your book into a film,, I would shoot it more like Coppala's "Dracula" then the new "Van Helsing" flick that came out not too long ago -- more realism to the film.

Ron - Director of the independent film "The Chest"

Mark, an Amazing piece of writing, yes I could see this on the Big Screen, and lets face it, if 'The Blair Witch Project' could make it why not this.

i loved this ... since i am reading a book called "From the Ashes of Angels" at the moment, about fallen angels mingling with mortal women (sounds cool to me *lol*) this sort of linked up with it ... you made very real characters here and i was totally engaged in their tragedy and fate ... absolutely wonderful!
