Davina Kotulski: You are amazing.

For those of you who have never heard of this amazing woman, she is the author of "Why You Should Give a Damn About Gay Marriage". And being only 15 pages into the book (I just started reading 10 minutes ago) I already give a bigger damn then I think I've ever damned before. With chapters titling "Silly Rabbit, Marriage is for Heterosexuals!" and "Rights Your Average Incarcerated Heterosexual Serial Killer Has Access To (That You Don't!)" You will find yourself wanting to do something, wanting to change something that wasn't right before. This book gets you angry, because damn it this just isn't right.

I'm going to keep reading and tell you to go out there and give this book a try.

All the luck in the world goes out to you and Molly. You go sisters!

Your opinion.
Current mood: curious

So I am curious to hear all of you on how you  feel about things.  I hear different views all the time but I don't always hear too many from those who actually support homosexuality and anything to do with the subject.  Some say I am a hypocrit, some say I am just plain odd considering I am a straight woman.  I don't feel that I have any right to represent homosexuals.  But I do feel I have a right to show that there are many straight people who support.  I may not be gay but I feel strongly about equal rights.  I'm not your spokes person but I definately want to be used as someone who can possibly break boundaries so that everyone can at least have the right to live in their own manner (not because homosexuals can't but because I want to help).  Any thoughts?  Negative and positive thoughts, it doesn't matter.  Speak your mind.

5 Reasons

5 Reasons Against Gay Marriage

1.  Gay relationships are immoral.  Many Christian denominations denote gay marriage, the Roman Catholic church adamantly rejects it.

2.  The natural right of marriage is procreation, to further the human species.

3.  Same-sex marriage would threaten the institution of marriage.

4.  Marriage is traditionally a heterosexual institution.

5.  Sodomy should be illegal and is morally wrong.

5 Reasons For Gay Marriage

1. The Bible has no standing in American law, which is made clear by the 1st amendment. Also not all religions are against homosexuality, for example: Buddhists, so if homosexuality is banned based on Christianity then the religious freedom of Buddhists is being infringed upon.

2.  There is no law stating that married couples must have children.  There is also no law preventing sterile heterosexual couples or postmenopausal women from marrying.  And perhaps homosexuals would be doing the world a favor by not bringing more hungry mouths into a world that is already ecologically struggling from the sheer number of humans it must support.

3.  Allowing people to marry does not threaten the institution of marriage.  Giving homosexuals the right to marry could possible lower divorce rates.  Some homosexuals try the heterosexual lifestyle because of pressure from society to fit in.  These marriages end in divorce because the heterosexual marriage is not what one or both spouses want.

4.  Significant changes have been made to the "traditional" concepts of marriage.  For example: polygamy is prohibited, women are no longer considered property, divorce is legal, and interracial marriages are allowed.

5.  Up until recently sodomy was illegal, but the Supreme Court overturned the remaining state laws.  Although they were rarely enforced, they were a great tool for homophobes.  Sodomy laws were an easy and legal way to discriminate. "You're an unconvicted felon."  Heterosexual couples would not stand for this intrusion into their private sex lives but homophobes didn't see anything wrong with using state power to enforce their prejudices.  Eventually state courts and the Supreme Court overturned these rulings because they were in violation of the 4th amendment.

12 reasons why Gay Marriage will ruin Society
Current mood: amused
Category: News and Politics

  1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.
  2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.
  3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.
  4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
  5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.
  6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
  7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America.
  8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.
  9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.
  10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
  11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.
  12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.
