The winds, they are a changin'
Current mood: pensive

Do you feel it? I sense the winds are about to change. Aa eastward or westward wind, I cannot yet be sure...Currently considering carpet bag. It is best to travel light when the wind changes, am feeling an adventure brewing....Hmmmm.....

And what changes do you forcast, my friend? How will YOUR summer find you? Am hoping yours will be filled with great adventure and exploration. Time to start thinking about it.

MMmmm, can you smell the scent of climbing roses and hyacinth? The prophet Mohammad is reported to have said "If I had but two loaves of bread, I would sell one and buy hyacinths, for they would feed my soul." And then there's that pensive song by Rosanne Cash, God is in the Roses.

Yes, I can feel a wind brewing.
Is the answer, my friend, blowin' in the wind?
Yes, I believe I will begin an adventure very, very, soon....

Best foot forward.

Did you hear the latest from Stephen Hawking?

Here's a link to the story:

spaced out

Imagine being trapped in a body that will not obey your commands, and then suddenly experiencing weightlessness! I cannot wait to hear his thoughts on this.

I'm also looking forward to reading your thoughtful responses on the following items:

What blocks you from experiencing your life most fully?

What do you do to get around these blocks? Emotionally or physically?

What have you learned from overcoming your roadblocks?

Have you patented these ideas, processes, or actual inventions yet? Why or why not?

Remember. No right or wrong answers, just want to see what makes you tick. Who knows who you might inspire!

For the Roses
Current mood: chipper
Category: cheerful Friends

Peek a Boo!

Has anyone seen my little friend Lindsay Rose?

I'm sure she's helping around the house, having a tea party or inspiring her daddy to write pretty songs about her.

Lindsay is a sweet and BEAUTIFUL little girl, who has very good taste in professional nannies I've heard...

Go give your daddy a big hug, Lindsay, he loves you so. You are a very lucky little girl to have music and love in your life.

Sing your favorite song today, and make those around you smile.

A little birdie told me you were very good at that!

Be good, Lindsay Rose...until the wind changes anyway....

Love, from your friend, Mary Poppins NSM

To Serve, with Love
Current mood: busy

So, my beautiful online frined Lotus posted this a while ago. I asked for her permission to repost it, and now I'm doing it... MP NSM has been quite, quite busy lately. Big changes and adventures ahead. Don't you worry. If I haven't been as communicative as usual, I am sorry. Wait. No. I'm not sorry. I am REALLY busy. No need for appologies. If you feel somehow neglected, I am sorry for that. I think of you, my myspace friends often, and a little patience may pay off. If you've sent me something recently, and I haven't responded, send it over again. I may have missed it! I can't be responsible for your feelings, you know. It is one of the things I've learned. Hence the reposted poem from Lotus.

(Okay, I can't be responsible for your feelings, but if you are truly feeling neglected, drop me a note, it isn't because I don't care...I do.) Have a beautiful Tuesday now, you hear? Best foot forward....

I've learned-
That you cannot make someone love you.
All you can do is be someone
who can be loved.
The rest is up to them.

I've learned-
That no matter how much I care,
some people won't care back.

I've learned-
That it takes years to build up trust,
and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned-
That it's not what you have in your life
but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned-
That you can get by on charm
for about fifteen minutes.
After that, you'd better know something.

I've learned-
That you shouldn't compare yourself
to the best others can do.

I've learned-
That you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned-
That it's taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.

I've learned-
That you should always leave loved ones
with loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned-
That you can keep going
long after you think you can't.

I've learned-
That we are responsible for what we do,
no matter how we feel.

I've learned-
That either you control your attitude
or it controls you.

I've learned-
That regardless of how hot and steamy
a relationship is at first,
the passion fades
and there had better be
something else to take its place.

I've learned-
That heroes are the people
who do what has to be done
when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences.

I've learned-
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned-
That my best friend and I can do anything
or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned-
That sometimes the people you expect
to kick you when you're down
will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned-
That sometimes when I'm angry
I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn't give the right to be cruel.

I've learned-
That true friendship continues to grow,
even over the longest distance.
Same goes for true love.

I've learned-
That just because someone doesn't love
you the way you want them to doesn't
mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned-
That maturity has more to do with
what types of experiences you've had
and what you've learned from them
and less to do with how many
birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned-
That you should never tell a child
their dreams are unlikely or outlandish.
Few things are more humiliating, and what
a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I've learned-
That your family won't always be there for you.
It may seem funny, but people you aren't
related to can take care of you and love you
and teach you to trust people again. Families
aren't biological.

I've learned-
That no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you every once in a while
and you must forgive them for that.

I've learned-
That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes you are to learn to forgive yourself.

I've learned-
That no matter how bad your heart is broken
the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned-
That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned-
That just because two people argue,
it doesn't mean they don't love each other
And just because they don't argue,
it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned-
That we don't have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.

I've learned-
That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret.
It could change your life forever.

I've learned-
That two people can look at the exact same thing
and see something totally different.

I've learned-
That no matter how you try to protect your children,
they will eventually get hurt and you will hurt in the process.

I've learned-
That your life can be changed in a matter of hours
by people who don't even know you.

I've learned-
That even when you think you have no more to give,
when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

I've learned-
That credentials on the wall
do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned-
That the people you care about most in life
are taken from you too soon.

I've learned-
That it's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people's feelings and standing up for what you believe.

Silver Spoons Clinking Noisily-Shhhh!
Current mood: busy
Category: Friends

Wouldn't it be lovely if librarians ruled the world?

If I had to choose my favourite candidate for Queen of the Library Leaders it would have to be Miss D. Meanor.  She couldn't be any

D. Nicer

or

D. Lovelier

She writes clever and amusing blogs and provides a unique series of book recommendations.  She does all this with a no nonsence North Carolinian sensiblility.  You've just got to check her out! (A little library humor here).

There she is, the stunning Miss D. Meanor.  Be sure and check out our mutual friend, Book, too.

Silver Spoon Award to Miss D. Meaner, who isn't afraid to come over and shush yo' a_ _ , if necesary!

All praises Due.

Lovin' Spoonful
Current mood: relaxed
Category: Friends

And the lovin' spoonful of sugar goes to...
Malcolm Guite. Singer, songwriter, guitar player, poet, minister.

The spoonful of sugar award could go to Malcom for so many reasons. Clever dialogue, rapier wit, excellent taste in poetry (and MySpace friends) storytelling....

Here was the clincher at crunch time:
He let me know he'd written a beautiful song called Sweet Felicity for his daughter.
Any father who writes a song for his daughter has some brownie points coming to him, at least in my book. No stodgy Mr. Banks for me...

I doubt Sweet Felicity needed a mary poppins type Nanny with a caring father like Mr. Guite to call DAD!
Super Fine Kudos for you, Malcom Guite. Enjoying your music. Added your daughter's song to my profile for tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks for being a good father. Our villiage needs more like you!

Cheers my friends!

Sweet Caroline...
Spoonfuls and spoonfuls of sweetness for my talented and clever friend Carol. She's always there with kind and silly words and never fails to brighten my day. Please stop by her innovative blog at your earliest opportunity. My friend Fredapeople introduced us. Though we've never met in person, I feel a connection with these friends and hope to someday share an afternoon at Royal Albert Hall's cafeteria, or a jaunt on over to the British Museum. Maybe a stroll through the park stopping by Speaker's corner. I wonder if we'd heckle the soapbox speaker. I'd like to think so. I've cut and pasted Carol's About Me section, so you'll get a little idea about how very special my friend Carol is, and why she deserves some spoonage.

What follows is all Carol...

I am an ageing asteroid hurtling through space at the most alarming rate.I hope to collide with literary supernovas for pleasing impact. I am accompanied by my trusted hound Muffin who is in search for the DogStar. At present I have landed on MySpace and am enjoying cyber connections When not hurtling I write light and comic verse. My writing has been described as surreal and anarchic and is influenced by Milligan and Lear. I write nursery rhymes for grown ups and consider myself a modern day Lear but without the Owl and Pussycat.I do not know much about me as I've never been on a journey of self discovery because I wouldn't know where to start. However my friends say that I'm positive, determined and forthright; as I'm also gullible it has to be true because I believe everything people tell me. My outer shell is pure sugar coating and the grey matter of my mind is soft sponge and mallow and it is there I encounter my ideas. My work has been featured in the local press, magazines and anthologies and can be found also on the bbc blackcountry website in the theatre and books section: called Carol Ward Blurring of Genders also Carol Ward The Latest which is about the trials and tribulations of being a poet That's me folks

I just love this lass...MP

Quadruplicate Spoons
Current mood: grateful

There is nothing more impressive than a good reader, except maybe a good writer. Or FOUR good writers! Add in impressive goals and gorgeous graphic marketing, and Mary finds herself a little concerned about her silverware drawer. If I continue to be inspired by greatness, friendship, and gutsy moves, I shall soon be low on spoons.

This week, without a doubt, the SPOONFUL OF SUGAR AWARD can only be presented in quadruplicate (Is that a word, Justina? I'm thinking yes, it is, because Mary Poppins likes the sound of it). Spoons to the readergirlz divas, Justina Chen Headley, Janet Lee Carey, Dia Calhoun, and Lorie Ann Grover!

The SPOONFUL OF SUGAR AWARD is hereby presented to the glamorous gutzy girls, who also happen to be generous, gorgeous and gregarious divas, The ReaderGirlz! Gee, I'm so liking the letter 'G' this week! Next week, I may award favourite letters of the alphabet, and the words they inspire, but that is another posting, isn't it?

Oh, I could devote my entire site to the glories of the ReaderGirlz, but they have their own very cool site

Stop by and see them

http://www.myspace.com/readergirlz

Read their March Manifesto
Read their books
Participate in their discussion groups
Attend their workshops
Congratulate them on their first event last week at Barnes and Noble
Visit their online store for VERY COOL products!

Proudly proclaim your dedication to getting gutzy girls of all ages to read, write, and create.

The ReaderGirlz inspire me daily, and I know they'll inspire you too.
They are available for workshops (but not many spots left)-SO...Book 'em, and buy their books, you will be inspired!

I'm wondering if any of them can make a spoon stick on her nose? I'd like to see a picture of that!

Love and Best Wishes,
Mary

Silver and Gold Spoonful of Sugar Award
Current mood: pleased

This week, my friends it is ALL about the people. Yes, all of you people who've sent clever and funny and oh so remarkable stories and poems and links and songs and, kindnesses. Yes, this week is in some ways all about the people, however, as the Spoonful of Sugar Award is only intended for ONE person at a time, it most certainly must go to one of my oldest and dearest myspace friends....FREDAPEOPLE!

FRED has been a true and loyal reader and friend since the very early days of my myspace meanderings, in fact, one of my very first online friends as I was learning the ropes! In the beginning, my myspace friends were limited to my friends that I've actually laid eyes on at some point in my actual travels around the globe. Freda was one of my first exceptions, and I'm so very glad for it!

As is often the case, Mary was wary of friend requests from strangers. Mary asked Freda many, many, somewhat intrusive questions such as "And just exactly how did you run across my private profile, FRED?" or "Explain to me, your interest in Mary Poppins, Freda."

Fred, bless that soul, quite patiently explained that FredaPeople and little one had been friends of mine for years, YEARS I tell you. Fred reminded me of the marvelous chalk drawing, drawn as a mural on a garden wall in my honor at the People's home.

Well, of course we are friends!

Here's a little secret, I've not even yet told FRED, On the very day, actually five minutes after receiving a somewhat startling and disconcerting note from my company,
FredaPeople's friend request arrived in my inbox. Freda does not know this, but, I was quite suspicious of the phrasing as well as the timing of Fred's note. Fred's note, which was private, so I'll paraphrase simply stated something along the lines of "This seems like a WONDERFULLY
POSITIVE space, you must tell me how to post little one's drawing." Well, it was a very kind introduction, but, at the time, MP was having a bit of a tiff with someone from the office. Someone, in Admin, that tends to use the exact phrase "that is a WONDERFUL idea, that we should explore at a later date".

So, as I was at home, not feeling quite up to par on the auspicious arival of FRED's friend request, I believed for several days that my Admin friend was playing a trick on me, being a bit sarcastic you might say, questioning my sick day (Mary really was under the weather, Mary does not play hookie when there is a job that must be done).

So, I fired off a response along the lines of "Well, thank you very much, this IS, in fact, a
WONDERFULLY POSITIVE place, and you are welcome to explore it. I would caution you, however not to do so on company time. Check out my space as often as you like on your lunch or dinner breaks or before or after work!"

If Fred felt I was being a bit cryptic or bossy, Fred never let on. Fred's one of those friends that can see through the fog and frippery and get right to the heart of the matter. Fred has been there through thick and thin, tears and trauma, chuck-it-all and chuckle.

This is only one of the many reasons this week's award must go to Fred, Fredapeople,
great poet, comedian, wisdom monger, writer and most of all, friend.

Who loves ya Fred?

Gladly passing you the spoon, FRED, for always being just the right medicine for Mary.

Remember this song?

Make new friends,
but keep the old,
One is silver
and
the
other's gold.

Fred's my silver and gold friend, and therefore the PERSON who receives the
Silver and Gold Spoonful of Sugar award this week and always....

MMMMMWWWWAAAAAHHHHH! Mucho Air Kisses for FREDAPEOPLE
(check out FredaPeople's my space, by the way, very cool, with frequent updates on the progress of the book...Yea Fred!)
