Last month, myself and Geoff Gaviria were lucky enough to have been nominated for a BIMA award (the British Interactive Media Awards) which is a nationwide celebration of excellence and creativity with the Multimedia & Web Industries (like the BAFTAs, but for what we do )...

We were nominated in the student category for our Dead On Arrival interactive comic project which myself & Geoff created as part of our main final year university project. 

Well, against some tough competition, we won!! The award was announced and presented at the Midnight Gardens, Hanbury St. at the glitzy awards ceremony for 23rd BIMA awards.

Just finished the redesign of my university's new media showcase site (it may look a tad familiar haha). Basically the purpose of the site is for people on new media related courses to show off their work and for people outside the university (in particular prospective employers and students)

no real content on there as yet, and if I'm honest, unless somebody else manages the content, the chances of the site being live before the Mayfest show are fairly slim, with pretty much all of my time (as my lovely girlfriend will testify) between my remaining university deadlines (in particular, the below dead-on-arrival project and my final year dissertation).  

However, I don't think this means that the site shouldn't go live at all. This is because the original purpose of the site was to support the show, and provide an easier to access (I.e. online) and longer existing showcase of the things presented at the show.  Obviously parts of the site such as directions to the show and when it is on will become a bit redundant, but the showcasing of what student's from uel can produce and having it all under one roof (so to speak) will still be very relevant (especially as these student's graduate and perhaps look for employment in the field of new media).

Also there is a forum, feel free to register and whatnot, and don't worry about the random questions if you do ("Are you human?"), these are purely just to stop spambots.

Dead On Arrival - Interactive Comic

Right.. this project is going to be an interactive comic based upon a 1940s noir by the same name (although we have adapted the plot quite significantly..)

The gist is, the way the story unfolds will be interactive, with minigames and the like needed for the 'viewer' to progress and the story will also have separate story paths which they can follow based on choices they make.  Also we intend to make use of the flash medium to intergrate video/animation/sound/music/and of course interactivity so that we are updating the normally linear comic medium.

We start shooting on the project next week - we are basing the animations and comic stills on highly stylised/edited photography (think sin city).

So far we have created the interface for the comic (minus the sound and playback controls), where the comic will go in the main box and character side story films will go in the template created on each character page. also created the about us/contact pages (minus content) so far too. (Spanish version will be only be created upon finishing the english version - although the script has already been adapted/translated.)

Another flash site here, for my very talented girlfriend who works with paper, textiles and machine embroidery who (albeit in my biased opinion) creates some beautiful work. the site design isn't completed yet and there a few things to add/fix but I'll sorting these shortly along with regularly updating with her newest work.

She is open for private commissions for personalised pieces (any size) based upon any photo/image you have and want to have an artistic representation of for in the home etc..

example: piece created for me for valentines with me styling it out in my beloved jasper car from a xmas long ago.

A flash site created for a friend at uni, the brief was to have something that had the visual stylings of sin city plus 'bohemian' type swirly vines.

anyway. feel free to let me know what you think of the design etc.  also Joe is on my friends list if you want an alternative way of contacting him.

EDIT. woohoo, won WebForumz website of the month ..bit lucky on this front, gotta say, personally thought some of the other contenders used the flash medium to more effect, and also because this was large and not accessible for low res users (because of the specified target user of the client).. but design wise, stylistically I was very happy with it and felt it met the clients needs, and i'll be basing my interactive comic project on this design..
