Heading to CMJ - Big News ;-)
Current mood: giddy
Category: Music
I'm totally stoked. I just found out that the band and I are gonna get to play at the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC next month. I've always wanted to go and now we're playing! I effing love New York and now we get to play one of the coolest venues in the village ;-) I'm kinda in schoolboy giddyness mode right now. We'll be playing Sullivan Hall on October 23rd along with Chris Nathans and Colin Smith. It's gonna be killer. If you're going to CMJ come on by ;-)
Here's the link: Sullivan Hall
I know you can get tix in advance so do that if you can.
See you in NYC!

Help Conquer Cancer - get a free song!
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Music
Thanks for reading this everyone. Hope you're all doing great! Sorry for the mass email but i've signed up for the Ride to Conquer Cancer and could use your help. For those of you who don't know the ride involves a 2-day, 200Km (125 Miles) trek from the heart of Toronto toNiagara Falls - ON A BIKE. It sounds absolutely crazy and i'll admit i'm pretty terrified but i've got a great team and awesome supporters. After all, a little hard work and a sore ass are worth it don't you think?
With your help i'm hoping to raise $3500 by the middle of June. Funds raised in The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world.
As a SPECIAL THANK YOU for donating, and because we're in the middle of recording a new album, everyone who donates $20 or more gets a special download link for a rough mix of a song from our upcoming album called "Someday". You also get a spiffy tax receipt ;-)
Here's the deal, I do the work, you put up a small amount of dough that you won't miss come next week. It's for a great cause and I'd love your help.
Thanks in advance for your support.

back in the saddle...... mmmm
Current mood: breezy
After a shit-long time of chilling out and rolling with what life threw at me, i’m finally back in the studio working on my next album. Or is it a record? I use them interchangeably but someone said record was old school..... whatevs. I’m doing an LP.
We just did the beds for the tunes and now we’re into overdub world with horns, strings, gospel choir etc. The bed tracks were done live off the floor in the studio which was amazing. Loads of fun.
I’ll be updating the space with some new sounds as we make some progress.
Thanks for listening folks and watch out for a tour in the fall across the US, Canada and hopefully Japan and OZ. I’ll keep ya posted ;-)
Peace till then
Matty

100,000..... yayah
What what.... 100,000 plays. I think Eric Hutchinson put it best (his was for 1 million though.... yeah.....1 MILLION. anyways.....)
Note: All references to the number 1,000,000 have been replaced with 100,000 for the following paragraph. Thank you.
"So this week my myspace page finally got it's (100,000th) spin! That's right, (100,000) ! In the record industry, when people sell (100,000) copies of their CD, they get a (not platinum) record that they can hang on their wall to show everyone what a big deal they are. So once I realized I was close to my (100,000th) digital spin, I began getting excited. I mean a (NOT PLATINUM) RECORD?! That's even better than gold! That would be amazing. My friends would like me more. My fans would listen to my songs closer. My mother would return my phone calls. Yessir, life was going to be good with that (not platinum) plaque. ...That is, until I found out that myspace does NOT give out platinum records for spins alone.
To say I was hurt doesn't really begin to explain it. It felt more like when I found out Saved by the Bell: The College Years was canceled after only 13 episodes. There was a sense of betrayal that ran so deep I had to go straight to the top. So I sent a message complaining to Tom, from myspace. In the message, I told him of my disappointment in the way he and his myspace cronies had handled my (100,000th) listen. Here is his response:
"Dear (Matt). Go fuck yourself. Nobody in their right mind expects a plaque for myspace spins. Get a clue you dipshit. You're lucky I don't erase your whole account. Oh and go fuck yourself!"
Some people are just jerks! Anyway, thanks for listening to my songs, guys. Keep it up! I'm hoping for a Silver Trophy once we hit (200,000)!"
There it is folks. Thanks for the support!

Mayer + Sexton + Soulive + Bahamas
Current mood: excited
Category: Music
So is anyone else heading out on the high seas for this ridiculous display of musical orgasm? I have the privilege of being able to hit up the Mayercraft on Feb 1st for 3 days of insanity. Martin Sexton, Soulive, Colbie Caillet, Brett Dennen, Dave Barnes, DRH, and of course JM.
For those of you who don't know, i kinda like Sexton... a little. I think I might be like....
Matt: "Hey Marty" Marty: "Yeah" Matt: " I want to be on you"
It'll probably go down something like that, perhaps involving security but we'll work it out. If you're going on the Mayercraft let me know so we can geek out about it for the next 2 weeks.
t-minus 17 days.
