The Number One Band In Heaven is looking for guitarists/bassist.
THIS IS FOR ANYONE IN SEATTLE WHO LIKES SPARKS:
I have been talking about it for what feels like forever - getting a Sparks tribute band together for summer rehearsals, leading up to one fabulous end-of-summer performance. The legendary pop maestros have just released the 21st record of their career, Exotic Creatures of the Deep, and is currently most of the way through an epic 21-day residency in London, playing each album in consecutive order, from beginning to end LIVE! That's 240 songs. In this world, there are female AC/DC cover bands, and a midget KISS army, yet a Sparks tribute has not yet crossed my path. So I am going to make it happen. The core of Sparks, brothers Ron and Russell Mael, deserve to have a bit of their legacy shine through, right here in Seattle.
I know many people who are into this idea, but only a couple have agreed to contribute. Drums and keyboards are covered. Looking now for a couple guitarists, and a bassist who would be down to learn 10-12 Sparks songs and perform it on one magical night. I need commitment. Rehearsal space is already covered. The band has a name: The Number One Band in Heaven. The songs I've selected for the set, with the assistance of my comrades Ruben and Jon (honorary 1BiH members), are straight forward pop songs, with simple melodies and chord progressions. Most of them are coming from their early 70s and early 80s cannon.
It would be wise to listen and reacquaint yourself to the following albums:
Angst in My Pants In Outer Space Kimono My House Number 1 in Heaven Big Beat
Please contact me if you or anyone you know is interested. -Travis
If you are interested in doing any type of "boy band" trend piece in the upcoming months and would like to talk to anyone in VARSTIY FANCLUB let me know and I would more than happy to set that up.
Cheers, xxxxx

98° and Rising

By no means am I an avid peruser of Craigslist, let alone the pathetic "Missed Connections" section. I have only looked at Missed Connections once before (when a friend showed me what "missed connections" actually was). The other day, I went into the coffee shop I always go to while at work, and Ryan, one of the employees there, brought to my attention that I was the subject of a missed connection! (Obviously, the dude scanned the M.C. on a regular basis.) I was initially thrilled, thinking maybe it was this cute girl I made repeated eye contact with last week on 15th (who did a triple take on me! with her friend!), or some other woman that came into work, or something! My, how fucking wrong I was...Jesus.
Travis from the Cha Cha, last night - m4m - 23 (Seattle/Capital Hill)

Would certainly like to meet up with you sometime and get a beer with you again. Your friends where great people also. If my memory doesn't fail me, you work at a record store on 15th.

Tender In the Middle: Dark Meat At Midnight
Current mood: impressed
Category: Music
What about that Dark Meat at the Comet tonight, you ask. Holy Shit, I say, strongly emphasizing on a drawn out "oly" and "shh."
Not kidding. This show had the kind of energy that I had always hoped existed within the cracks of Seattle. It was punk as monkey fuck - I was really close to climbing the pole into the rafters and jumping into the beer and confetti coated sea below. I decided not to because I could've done some serious damage to myself - a great way of becoming crippled, if ever there was one. Instead, the band (a dozen sweat-soaked bodies covered in war paint) and people from the audience climbed on each other, and confetti was blasted through a leaf blower-like thing, which snowed on the swirling, awe-stricken crowd. I headbanged into my buddy Rick's back while the trumpet player stood beside him playing. Faces were agape. Dark Meat are 10,000,000 reasons not to get up and get another drink, because you probably already had one too many. Madness was already at hand.
I have had a terrible habit of always changing the songs on my profile that I usually can't remember what my chosen song was even three days ago. Shame.
So, if there was something you liked, now you can scroll the chronological listings of whatever song has graced my page since Monday. Whenever a song changes (usually daily), I will add it to the list below, with the most current on top.

There are sailboats racing on Lake Union today, under unexpected sunny skies. I've been watching them all morning on my back deck. I don't have binoculars, so I can't distinguish what fleet of boats are racing, but I'm under the impression from their size and swiftness on the water that they're 2-man crew centerboards, somewhere in the ballpark of 15-21ft in length. This makes me think back to my sailing days.
I grew up racing sailboats with my father and the Whiskeytown Sailing Club, competing in regional and national regattas all over northern california. We didn't go to church on Sundays - we went sailing. We sailed a Coronado 15, winning numerous regattas in our class. We drove home with ceramic whiskey bottles, etched glass mugs, and plaques in our hands. We smelled like sunscreen, our breath smelled like Wheat Thins.
I really, really want to go sailing again. Seattle Center for Wooden Boats offers tours on their wooden-haul boats, and there are other private businesses that offer sunset cruises and such. I want to organize a sailing adventure this summer, where I could have my hands on the till, or the jib and main sheets. Let's cruise and let the wind blow through our minds.
If I still lived one block from you, I would be there every day, like I was tonight, eating the West Caribbean Bowl or the Smokin' Thighs Sandwich (tonight was the bowl with an extra thigh). I'll wear black in honor of the mess that is caused by your spledid juices and dripping sauces. I'll forget to wipe my face because I never put the food down - not even to breathe. I may look like homemade hell when I eat your food, but my tongue is in Paseo-made heaven. Why are you so delicious? Why did I ever move away from you?
We have to keep meeting like this. Please.
Signed, Travis
