My Brother’s Music
Current mood: happy
Category: Music

Greetings:

AS always I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits. I hope you all have had a great summer. I have been crazed and had so little time to send out blogs like I would like to. I truly miss speaking to you guys and talking about what is on my mind. I have been doing a lot of traveling and really spending some one-on-one time with my kids, as well as some things going on with my company, which I will put you guys up on in the near future.

A quick note. If you are going to be in Las Vegas this August 26th, then come hang out with me at Ghost Bar in the Palms Hotel. I am hosting an event there with celebrity jeweler ROOM 101 and special guest performances by Mae Day, Noelle and the one and only TOO SHORT. Me, Short Dog, DJ Cyber KId and alcohol usually means a great hip hop affair, plus the room 101 jewels are so sweet. Hope to see you there this Tuesday August 26th. One more thing, this is a great chance to see a true star in the making with a performance from Mae Day. Trust

Speaking of music, my younger brother has been playing guitar for as long as I can remember. He always played for fun. He is self taught and is a polar opposite from me. I am city, he is country. I am street educated, he is college educated. I am into hip hop, he loves old school hip hop but is much more a fan of alternative and folk music. Recently my kid brother has decided to start to record songs he has been writing for years. They are deep and folk, with heart and true lyrical substance, which is something we do have in common LOL. All in all I think he is really talented and is different sounding. I have put him up on my top friends list (Look for Larry, the black and white picture of the dude holding the guitar). it is a change of pace and something you might enjoy. Either way please listen and let me know, as well as him, what you think.

talk to you soon

Your life’s liner notes
Current mood: inspired
Category: Blogging

Peace:

As always I hope this blog finds you in good health and spirits.  I first want to send a shout out to many of you that have called me on my number, 313-879-2793.  It has been great to put voices with names.  I have been putting up a lot of cool content up on the line as well as some very positive info, similar to my blogs, so please come through and subscribe.

The reason for this blog is a simple one.  It is about communication and how we send out information about ourselves.  I am reading a really interesting book right now called "Check the Technique".  It was written by Brian Coleman and is a collection of liner notes from some of our favorite albums of all time.  Maybe I lost some of you on what liner notes are:  In every music genre, besides rap, liner notes, the notes about the songs on an artist's album, usually come with some explanation of the thought process behind the music.  This has become a lost art in our music world but it especially is lost in rap music.  Liner notes in most to all rap albums are production credits and then usually two pages of shout outs to people who the artists wants, or think he needs, to thank for getting him to this point.  Brain Coleman interviewed several different artists about what was behind their songs in a detailed and thoughtful way, exposing the process behind some of hip hop biggest records.  As you know I think deeply and I started to see the similarities between this lost art of liner notes and the lost art of our own liner notes, let me explain:

If we look at how we break ourselves down to people, it is usually very surface, with little explanation of how we got to that point.  In work we give short, quick answers that sometimes leave our co-workers a little confused about the motive behind your answer.  In a relationship you will tell your significant other about your day at work, never really letting them in on how the circumstances at your job affected you emotionally.  What we do is we carry those feelings and then they manifest themselves in another behavior.  Sometimes good, but sometimes these manifestations hurt the people around us.  So it is time for us to engage in "Emotional Liner Notes".  We need to start to let people in on what is making us react, or think, the way we do.  We have to start to let people into the thought process behind our decisions.  When you do this, not only do you become more self aware of your thought process, but you let others into the thought process as well and they can even give you insight as to what they think about your reasoning.  These self liner notes will give the person on the other side of the conversation a better understanding of who you are.  When people can understand you better they can offer guidance, assistance, and even be an advocate of your thinking.  Many times the person on the other end will let you know that they are confused about your thinking.  This is where you have to really think about the depth of your liner notes.  Once you open up, you go all the way, no half stepping.  The deeper your information that clearer it will look; the clearer it looks, the better the understanding, and that can only lead to better communication.

Give this a try and see for yourself how much you emotional liner notes benefit your relationships around you, and please remember this important fact.  Not everyone is going to agree with your thought process.  The person on the other side is going to let you know how they feel about what you just said, and it is crucial to listen.  Communication works two ways.  Be willing to let those around you comment on the liner notes of your life and give you commentary of their own.

It’s Time for Jesse Jackson to STEP OFF
Current mood: disgusted
Category: disgusted Blogging

What up:

As always I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits.  I have been spending a lot of my summer really grinding.  I am helping to build a new brand, a light sparkling Liqueur call NUVO.  It is the fastest selling liquor in the market today so I guess I am off to a good start.  If you have not tried it or have not heard of it and you are of drinking age, check out the website:  HYPERLINK "http://www.sparklingnuvo.com" www.sparklingnuvo.com.  I like to build things, Serchlite, Ecko, ESPN, Monday Night Madness with the NFL Players association, and now NUVO.  Next level people, trust.  Anyway, I was sipping on a BLACK CODE, which is Nuvo and a splash of Cognac when I heard about Jesse and his use of the "N" word in describing Barack Obama.  I think that it is time we sent a message to the old guard of African American politicians who claim they are the voice of the black community….STEP OFF, PLEASE.  For the love of blackness, go somewhere and chill.

You see, there was a time when Jesse meant something.  He was a confidant of Martin Luther King and was there when he was gunned down.  He continued MLKs' mission with peace marches and community outreach for much of the 70's and early 80's.  Then Jesse got gassed.  He thought he was now the singular voice for the black community, or at least that is what he made white politician's think he was, and ran for President in 1984 and 1988. His slogan was "Keep Hope Alive".  This seemed like a step in the right direction.  It was not.  During his run, he "ran" up in women all over the country, including a woman who would bare his child on the low.  It was so on the low that not even Jesse's wife knew about this child born out of wedlock (Sounds real political when you say it like that, huh). He then went on to call the New York Jewish community "Hymies" and NY "Hymietown" and we went crazy.  It seemed like Jesse got low for about ten years, focusing on his family and staying out of trouble but then racism reared its ugly head.  The Howard Beach incident, Rodney King, Tawana Brawley, all seemed to come just as Public Enemy was gaining steam and the Hip Hop community had some say in politics.  You know who the press listened to?  They listened to a newly focused Jess and his hype-man, Al Sharpton.  So now they get in front of the cameras and they are saying how the white politicians are not doing anything about race relations, and Jesse is getting mad play in the press.  He is getting the cover of Newsweek, Time, etc, all of them saying that this is the voice of the black community.  Jesse has been this voice for most of our lives.  Whether he deserved to be or not is not the issue.  We have waited as a community for some real relevance to represent us as a community.  It seemed like a light came out of the heavens that Democratic Convention in 2004.  A young, first term Senator from Illinois make Illa-Noise.  He looked like someone we could hang our hat with and break bread with.  He spoke of a new American that was on the verge of changing the global climate of our country.  You Tube his speech that day and be revitalized if you need to.  His name was Barack Obama and he was the heir to the Presidency.  It was a voice that we have not heard in this country since Robert Kennedy.  We were hooked.  The voices rang up.  The deep pockets began writing checks, and we were getting a broader picture of who Barack Hussein Obama was (Yes that is his full name).  He is bi-racial.  His pops mashed out on his moms, a la dead beat dad.  He was raised in the farmland of the Mid West.  He was the first African American to be the editor of the Harvard Law Journal.  He was making sense to a lot of us.  Do you know what Jesse did during his run for the nomination?  Jesse did nothing.  Sure, he showed up on CNN, FOX NEWS,MSNBC and talked game about this new young brotha who could speak for the disenfranchised, but deep down he was hating.    He was talking to people on Barack's team about a potential position on Barack's staff when he gets elected.  He was looking for the post that has evaded him all his life.  Jesse got what he deserved.  He was told to play his position and speak like he has always done.  Keep working the "Rainbow Coalition" and trying to get more corporate money to fund a non-profit that is supposed to be doing work in the urban communities to enrich the lives of the underprivileged.  Now I am not saying that I live in the hood, but lets keep it 100.  When have you ever seen the Rainbow Coalition do anything around the way unless it was for a political reason or during a election campaign?  I ain't never seen no rainbow nowhere and I do not know any organizations who have ever gotten any funding from his organization.   Hey, if someone can educate me out there I am all ears.  You know how I am about being schooled, and if you have seen something I have not then let me know.   Jesse got kicked to the curb by the Obama crew because they want a change.  Out with the jaded and in with the new.  So, Barack is doing a speech at an all black church, and he is talking about what many of us talk about all the time.  He is talking to black men about being fathers to these children they create but don't raise.  Barack is speaking from his own experience.  He is speaking from not havin his OG around when he was a shortie.  He is making his statement clear and pronouncing every syllable to accentuate his point.  His point of the speech being that black men are letting down our black women in our community and they need to bag it up or just lock it down.  Fast forward and here is Jesse with another television opportunity to talk about this new young change for the better and dude under his breath he lets the world know what he truly thinks about this man who has a 50/50 chance of being our president.  He wants to cut his "NUTS" off for "Talking down to black people".  Barack was not speaking down, he was speaking TO black people. Of course the media has a field day which Jesse loves.  He is all smiles as he goes on what seems like 50 television outlets to say the same thing.  He didn't know his mic was on and he was sorry.  He is sorry just like a guy who cheats on his wife is sorry.  He is sorry that he got caught with his tongue in hand and his foot in his mouth  It should not matter if your mic is on, you should not be thinking that way in the first place, oh great black leader of this country.  Even his own son separates himself from his pops calling his statements "inappropriate and disgusting".   So we get a fist full of Jesse and his apologies.  You want to apologize, cool.  I can forgive just like the next guy.  Let's keep it moving.  All Kosher in my book, but good ole Jesse not done.  He then uses the "N" word, the same word he has been talking about burying, that the word is a destructive force in the black community and how it perpetuates ignorance and how rappers should stop using it and he uses it himself.  Jesse even went on BET and The Hip Hop Summit to talk to the young people about abolishing the word, and then he uses it himself?!?  This dude is a clown, for real.  This dude needs to be gone, for real.  He should represent the black community as much as the Grand Dragon of the KKK should.  I even think that Jesse is more destructive than the Grand Dragon of the KKK.  At least we know where the Grand Dragon stands.  Jesse claims he is down for the cause, but he is just down for JESSE'S cause. This dude hates the fact that Barack is getting the light that he never got.  Well, guess what Jesse,  you never deserved that light.  You are a hater.  You always have been and you always will be.  If I ever get the chance to interview you on my show all I will talk about is how you are a disgusting representation for the black community.  I ask all of you to go to his website  HYPERLINK "http://www.rainbowpush.org" www.rainbowpush.org or  HYPERLINK "http://www.keephopealiveradio.com" www.keephopealiveradio.com and tell him to STEP OFF.  Tell Jesse that he does not speak for you.  Tell Jesse that he and his friend Al Sharpton need to go somewhere.  They don't have to go home, but they got to get out of here. He needs to not be a factor in politics any longer.  He needs to take care of that illegitimate kid of his, repair his relationship with his son, and stop going on TV until he does something we can all be proud of.  The only time I want to hear from Jesse Jackson is when he is donating 1 billion dollars to all those that lost their homes to Katrina down south and that he is building them all new homes and paying their insurance and taxes for the next ten years so that they can get up on their feet.  Now that would make me forget he is an idiot.

Sorry for rambling, but I had to get it off my chest.
Feel me?

Movies for the July 4th Weekend 2008
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Greetings:

I hope the blog finds you in good health and spirits.  This is the age old question for this weekend, what to go see.  A lot of my friends are what I like to call "Movie Whores" and will go see everything.  I mean like two flicks a day (One they pay for and one they sneak into) the whole weekend just so they can tell everyone that the movie was good, bad, sucked, incredible, to list a few adjectives.  So here is my list for the weekend.  This list is in now way influenced by any outside forces, meaning it has nothing to do with people I know in the film or if my peoples made the flick or had anything to do with the flick.  This is based on what I see as pure entertainment.  Oh and one other note, I will never go see a horror film so I would never recommend one.  I hear they are good though.

.. ..

1-Wall-E.  Ok so this might be the cutest film ever made.  I think Pixar is the greatest film company of our generation.  They are like the Dr. Dre of making great movies.  This film was so dope that I let my kids go and buy the stupid stuffed Wall-E dolls even though they are never going to look at them again after this weekend.  Great film

.. ..

2-Wanted:  So this film had the best special effects since the Matrix, real talk.  The story was crazy and had the same kind of tome that the Matrix had.  A kid looking for a different life, to find that the life he was destined for was a 180 then what he was living.  The action scenes were so good that you actually believe for a split second that someone could actually do what they were doing in this flick.  Also I am never mad at seeing Angelia Jolie's tush,  just saying LOL. Heart pounding action.  A must see for this weekend

.. ..

3-Kung-Fu Panda:  I love a story, no matter how hokey it is, about a guy (or in this case a Panda) trying to live his dream.  Plus I dig the fact that the Panda did not have to get skinny to be the hero.  Hey, I am a big dude and I work out but I think I will always be thick'ems, and for the hip hop heads out there, the five most talented Kung Fu students are known as the "Furious Five"  Don't push me cause I am close to the edge, I'm trying not to lose my head huhhuh, huh, huh!!!  Even if you got no shorties this is a film to take your girl to.  Real cute and she will think you are cute for seeing it with her.  Nice

.. ..

4-Hancock:  I mean c'mon a drunken superhero, played by a hip hop dude that basically owns July 4th weekend box office since, I don't know, 1992?  This is a touchdown even if its WACK.  Plus and I know I said what I said before, but Will is my dude since the early days at Rush Management and I am really happy for homie.

.. ..

5-Iron Man:  There might be some of you who have slept and not gone to see this in the big theatre.  In the words of Lawrence Fishburne WAKE UP.  I think this is its last weekend in theaters until we get to see it on BluRay which will be another totally mind blowing experience.   Great film (Incredible Hulk is right there as well)

Films to look forward to:  The Dark Knight, The Mummy (Jet Li, I had no idea, I am so in when this one drops in August) and Mama Mia. Yes I am an Abba fan and I think this film is going to be dope.

I would love to know what I left out.  I am sure, knowing you guys you will have some things to add.  So add away

.. ..

Call me:
Current mood: energetic
Category: Blogging

I hope this blog finds you in good health and spirits.  I want to thank all of you for your support and love.  You read my blogs, respond and build upon the things I have learned in my life. I have heard what many of you have said to me in private about my blogs.  Here are some responses.

1-They are always so serious:  LOL.  I try not to be so serious especially cause I am a goofy dude most of the time, but to keep it 100 with you, I feel like I need to be saying something.  Even if it's a question of who is the G.O.A.T I need these blogs to have meaning and when you hit me back and tell me that they had not only an affect on you but your family it makes me want to do more of the same.

2-My blogs are too long:  LOL.  I like to write, I am an emcee.  I've got a lot to say.

3-Do you really believe everything you write?  LOL. Absolutely, and I live with my words all the time.  Even when I forget to live by them either my kids, or Chantel (My wife) will remind me of something I wrote.  It is also so hot that I can look back on all that I wrote and remember what I was going through during the time I wrote that particular blog.

4-Do you answer all of your emails?  Yes, I do.  I do not have a staff to answer the 1,000 emails I get every week on My Space.  I am committed to those who write to me.  I also think that at some point when you guys are responding to blogs that I should NOT respond and let you control the floor.  It is about you and not what I think sometimes about what you said.  I want this blog space to be more of a community of people who are looking for similar people and goals and use these messages to share ideas with each other and not just me.  Does that make sense?

Ok, so I figured out a really cool system to hopefully really connect with you guys on a regular basis.  I want to give you my phone number.  This is not a fake number but a number to get in touch with me.  Every day I will change the message on the answering system and you can holla at me for whatever you want to holla about.  The schedule of my voicemail will go like this:

Monday:  A positive message to start your week.  As most of you know, I cannot stand Mondays.  It always takes me so long to get adjusted, but a dear friend taught me that the best way to start your week is to speak to someone who you relate to that can give you a boost when you need to get it poppin.  So Monday will be for that.

Tuesday:  Inside The Music Business:  The most important day for the record industry.  I will be letting you hear exclusive interviews with artists and even some inside info on records that are going to be dropping that day and even a message or two from artists that are dropping that day.

Wednesday:  Old School.  I want hump day to be Humpty Hump day LOL.  This day I will talk about some old school memories and take y'all back with some exclusive interviews and word from your favorite old school….Let's call them classic, artists from our past.

Thursday:  Word on the street.  I think a little gossip never hurt anyone right?  Who's doing what to whom and where.  Who is dating, who is dumping who is making moves and who is faking moves.  We all need a little bit of someone else's drama to make our drama not seem so dramatic.

Friday:  Some words for you to go into your weekend with and even a question or two about your week and how you handled it.  Use this day to vent and get all your frustration out from someone who was really going in on you this week.  Yell, scream, cuss, and just let it out, LET IT OUT.  The best ones will get a call back from me and maybe you will win a prize.

Saturday:  A Matter of Faith.  Since I am Jewish I will use this day to say something about the Most High and his abilities and love for us.  Since many of you are of many different religious faiths, it will be a non denominational message.  Please use this day to spread love.

Sunday: Can I Kick It?  This will be the day I tell you to just call me and let just talk.  Kick it for a minute.

So that is the rotation.  If I start slippin let me know.  If I start not doing what I am supposed to be doing let me know.  Ok.  Here is my number

313-879-2793

Those of you calling from outside the Detroit area, no worries, you will not be charged for a long distance call.  Just FYI, cause I know money is TIGHT right now.  Now I don't know about y'all international callers, LOL.

In closing, I will still be writing blogs, I still will be giving you my opinions and I promise to try to lighten up a little LOL.  But call me and let's build a phone community.  You can even subscribe to my number and you will get a message whenever I change my message, just the way you subscribe to my blog.  I really look forward to matching a name with a voice.

Love is Love
