This last thursday was the first day of Spring. to "celebrate" mother nature threw down a bunch of confetti-snow. and by a bunch I mean 15 inches.

Surprise Party
Current mood: chipper

My brother was shipped over to Iraq with the National Guard just before Christmas, and as far as we knew he was doing ok between the sand storms, floods, expansive camel population and the lack of cow milk. These are just a few of the things we heard about in random and sparse emails from the brotha. A few weeks ago my mom told me he had put in for a leave to come home for my wedding (in 10 days!) and it was granted. He, after 17 hours of air time, 6 hours layover, and three plane rides later, made it to Milwaukee. He not only didn't tell anyone but Dad that he was here, but he sequentially stopped by Mom at work, she cried and apparently was "bouncing around the office", then waited for my sister and I to stop over for "wedding things" to surprise us at our parents house. He looks good, has a new found taste for snooty coffee drinks, and is happy to be with family for this short time. Of course the jerk ruined all my amazing plans for a "Happy Birthday" video sung by none other than the tipsy guests at our upcoming reception, as well as a box of goodies. Well, I got to save money on postage to say the least. I'm off to work, then home again to spend some time with the bro on his short leave. Awww, he's made it home for my wedding!

A Real Introduction

My name is Melissa, but I prefer Mel (unless you're family) and I have been lovingly engaged to Jake for over two years. We're finally tying the knot in just over 50 (!!!) days and I couldn't be happier about it. I work in the accounting department for a computer company, and Jake is the Assistant Store Manager for the auto store he works for.  We have two adorable kittens that are mirror images in terms of their fur coloring. Who knows what the future holds for us, but we're ready for the trip!
