Paranormal Radio...Tonight!
Category: Blogging
Greeting fiends!
Just a quick note. For those in the Sudbury area, I'll be on a radio show tonight, "Night Fright" on CKLU 96.7fm from 10pm on. It's a call-in show about the paranormal and conspiracies, so you KNOW it's going to be odd.

Delicious Demolition, Horror Happy Hippies, Laughing at Campers, and Halloween...
Category: Blogging
Greetings friends and fiends,
Man, have I been busy! On top of doing some home renos ; I participated at a folk festival, been doing research for my documentary, I've started doing breakdowns for one of my first directing gigs, finishing concepts for a kids show, and I'm planning a few art exhibits for the fall.
Another Northern Lights Festival has come and gone. I have to say, it's been years since I was last at the music and art festival in Sudbury, and has it ever grown. Being invited as a demonstrating artist was a blast, I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to everyone and answering all their questions, and it was weird being in a "non-horror" crowd. They were a lot more open-minded than I would have initially thought; mind you it IS a "folky" type festival, so who knows what was circulating. ;P
"The Documentary" is plugging along, ever so slowly, but going forward none-the-less. We're currently in the pre-production research phase, with hopes to start filming some of the segments by late fall and most late spring 2009. Horror fans are going to love it, in fact, we're still looking for fans of dark films, music, and literature to help out – so contact me if you're interested in learning more, and aren't too camera shy. Some of the interviews are conducted in really odd circumstances – while I'm being tattooed, playing golf with a dark rock legend, and getting my ass beat at tennis by a 80 year old gore king.
I'll be directing some comedy shorts this summer, if you can believe that, filming on the campgrounds of a Provincial Park here in Ontario this summer. I was approached a couple of months ago about the gig, and the writing was funny as hell, so I had to get involved. Little did I know I would end up directing them. Casting will commence within the next couple of weeks, so contact me if you want to audition or work on the crew.
Yes, I said "kids" show. I'm currently adapting a children's book series written by my wife to be a live-action kids show. Preschool will never be the same. The show is aimed at the Age 2-5 market, and combines live people with puppets and special effects. Some of the challenges of bringing the unique characters to life have been really mind-bending, but we're getting there. We hope to do some initial camera tests within the next few weeks.
And now for the Art! Fans of my images, do not despond, I have been really developing some doozies. Experimenting with velvet painting, planning a traveling art show and installation, as well as a photography show and traditional painting show in the works. My work will be hitting Sudbury, Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, as well as a multitude of other Canadian and US locations. This is a blitz. Look forward to a plethora of model casting calls and collaborations with other creatives in the near future.
Speaking of collaborations, feel free to approach me with projects you might have, bearing in mind that I currently have enough pro-bono work to keep me busy for years, so paid work only please.
Until next time, keep scare-ing and scar-ing.

Festival Assistant Needed! (Sudbury, Ont, Canada)
I need a Festival Assistant!
I'll be stage painting along side certain musical acts and need help setting up and tearing down the works. The rest of the time, you're free to wander the Festival!
No pay, just Festival passes, unfortunately. But you'll also get my eternal gratitude, and the possibility of naming my new cat after you!
I'm going to be stage painting during certain musical acts during the show, and need help schlepping my gear back and forth, mainly Friday and Sunday night.
Northern Lights Festival Boreal July 4 - 6, 2008 Sudbury, Ontario
Drop me a line soon if you're interested.

Fangoria Weekend of Horrors 08 - Part One (and pics from the CF show!)
Day One - Thurs
As I sit in the Toronto airport, I figured I'd kill a few birds with one stone and start the update. First of all, there's a flight delay due to "high winds"…WTF? Is the plane made of Balsa wood? I guess the Midwest is being walloped with WIND! It could be worse. Anyways, it seems that life goes on reguardless, Ryan Rotten from Shocktillyoudrop.com and East coast horror nut, Rob G. of iconsoffright.com are hosting a pre-Fango bash tonight at a bar in North Hollywood. I'll probably get there in time to close the place, seeing as it's too windy to fly a plane. It seems my plane is boarding…brb.
I made to my connecting flight in Chicago with only 10 min to go from plane to plane! I felt like I was on Amazing Race, when they're running through the airports and stuff. I arrived at LAX on time, picked up my car (a sweet 300), and headed to one of the most incredible industry parties I've been to in a while, the pre-Fango bash I mentioned earlier. Not only were the LA horror crew there, but people I knew from the New York, Chicago, Vancouver, and Toronto scenes were in attendance as well. The Good Nite bar in Burbank was small, but the perfect setting for a function like this. There was a constant flux of people for over 4 hours, with barely enough room for your elbows. Kudos to Ryan and Rob for a job well done!
Afterwords, Tammy, SpookyDan, and I retired to their place where we planned the future of horror well into the wee hours of morning. Boy do we have some grand plans! (TBC...)

I took Pictures! Look for picture updates in my postings for the next few updates.

Steven Miller - RIP
Current mood: sad
Category: Blogging

A sad day indeed.
Just on the cusp of the opening of the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in LA, a horror friend, Steven Miller, was killed in a freak Grizzly bear attack yesterday.
My bud, SpookyDan reported it today on his blog...see below.
RIP Steve.

________
Another great loss for horror. By SpookyDan
As you may have seen online or in the news, our friend Stephan Miller died yesterday after a freak accident wear he was attacked by a bear. Miller was a stand up dude who helped get the magazine Girls & Corpses going, and had been working on a website called The Upcoming Horror Movie Network www.UHMN.com, and a new venture he was starting up called Sharenow. The site was streaming horror films for free, and was slowly gaining momentum over the past year. It's a sad sad day for anyone who knew him.
The whole thing sounds unreal. Miller was the cousin of Randy Miller who runs the Predators in Action wildlife reserve in which they raise and train dangerous animals for films. During the day they were working with a 700 pond bear named Rocky who attacked Miller and bit him in the throat. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the time the paramedics arrived. The Sickness - Thurs, March 20, 2008
Category: Blogging
Recently inspired by my rabidly typing friend, SpookyDan, I have finally set aside a few minutes to blog and vent and whatnot. First of all, I want to apologize to everyone that thinks I’ve been ignoring them, because I haven’t. This year has proven to be one of the worst for me so far, health-wise, that is. Not only has my work suffered, but many of my friends have felt that I’ve been too reclusive so far this year for my own good. Here’s why. I’m currently working as Art Director on the second season of "Meteo+", a French television comedy series, and fell ill by Feb while in pre-production with an infection in my leg. I was actually on a portable IV pump for about a week, the antibiotics were being pumped on a regular basis directly into my blood stream. That was the beginning. Due to this infection, my immune system took a nose dive and is still recovering. Since this, I have had a regular series of flues and viruses that have knocked me steadily down, with the most recent settling in my chest and making me lose my voice for over a week. This has made being on set a bitch due to the coughing fits and has forced me to really rely on my amazing team to be my eyes and ears on the set. I feel that I’m finally coming out of the haze now though, and I’m starting to plan other projects again. Things are looking up, with a nice break this weekend, and events like Fango Weekend in LA coming up, and time with the family (sans sickness).
I look forward to salvaging the rest of this year, and making up for lost time. I’m talking projects now people, planning the year, anyone want to talk collaboration?
Stay Scared.
