THE CURSE HAS BEEN BROKEN!

Blaaaaack is the wind...Ahem! Ahem! Ahem!

So, no more Curse of the Snake now. I have a nice STABO rig that had to be assembled all over the world - webbing from California, rings and carabiners from the UK, sewn by a local tailor (living somewhere in the south of Poland) using schematics from Japan. Wheesh. No photos yet, I have to get my camera back. Or buy a new one.

CURSE OF THE SNAKE

Or How I Decided To Get A Cheaply Made STABO Rig... And How The Universe Turned Against Me

Today's Top Gearbox is a wee bit different. Instead of choking the shit out of my new KJW USP Tactical (which, on a side note, is doing fine), I'm gonna talk gear. More exactly: a STABO Rig - rare as rocking horse shit, hard to find a repro and absolutely necessary for the right impression of Naked Snake. Yeah. Naked fucking Snake. I have the hair, I have the voice, I nearly have the uniform. What I need is a decked-out M56 or LC1 belt (Davis wire buckle a must) and a STABO for a good start.
I managed to find a guy who would put it together for me cheaply - if I sourced the materials, of course. My girlfriend (not anymore, fuckdammit!) reportedly got the materials and reportedly sewn the harness herself - of course, it was all real like a nuclear strike against fucking Saudi Arabia. So, suddenly, I was on my own. Like a real Legendary Soldier. So, I had a contact to US-based shop that, as I soon found out, was all fucking out of two important pieces of stuff: black v-rings and silver snap hooks, so I couldn't put a harness together until mid August. What's worse, it was selling the necessary webbing for over 100 bucks a 100-yard roll, which was waaay above my needs - all of that rounded up equals one real nasty case of a Curse of the Snake. Soddin' buggeryfuck.
I started frantically searching everywhere. The first part - hefty 70 feet of webbing, just enough to make two harnesses, for me and my good friend Scotty Killingsworth - cost me 75 bucks shipped, which is an equivalent of an arm, a leg and a kidney, but if you split the costs, it's $37.50 for each one of us - which still leaves over 120 bucks for snap hooks, v-rings, adjusters and other minor shit like work fees and small but important amounts of 1" webbing (we set ourselves a goal not to go over $100 on a single rig). Locating an UK-based company dealing in aforementioned hardware seems to be another sign of breaking the curse - if only they can be arsed (as the limeys say) to ship my wee little order to Central Europe, where I can pack it up along with the just-ordered webbing and toss it all at the tailor.

LET'S BUST IT: KJW USP TACTICAL

Is The Mythical "Worst Clone GBB Ever" Really THAT Bad?

My brand schpanking new KJ Works USP Tactical just arrived from Hong Kong-based Sun Arms Airsoft - so it's time to check if the gun is (still) as bugged as the models from past years, especially after someone told me about "revisions" made in 2006 to address horridly leaking magazines and breaking trigger units. If anything gets screwed up - I'll let you know.

First Look: Wake up! Grab a brush and put a little... Yeah, put a little paint on the things that should be painted but weren't. In order to make the USP a little more realistic, you'll have to paint the letters on safety/decocker (S should be white, F should be red) and the dashes that point at them on the frame (left one is red, right one is unpainted, both should be white). Then, purely for comfort, paint the dots on the rear sight - if someone made them, use them (I have painted sights in both of my Berettas, USP will be no different).
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Difference: earlier reviews said the barrel o-ring was missing. Well hello there, it's on mine! Also, the greyish hue everyone was complaining about is darker on my gun. The slide is graphite in color, almost black.

Also, the mag seems healthy. I'll take the gun for a spin soon and tell you how's it doing - just wait patiently. If it breaks, I'll tell you.

NEW WAVE OF CHINESE CLONES

We've Got Strokes For All Kinds Of Folks

That's right, gentlemen, we're getting another Skorpion, this time from JG. And that's only the beginning: other models from this producer are a Steyr AUG A3 (the one with a buttload of rails right, left and center) and some AK variant that could be best described as "mad Khyber Pass chase after Western 'tacticoolness' trend".
Next in line is Boyi, expanding their Kalash series (along with a GP-25 and GP-30 launchers!), working on a HK416 replica and, what's most important, testing a gas-powered Mauser K98K.
Going with the WW2 line, AGM is working full-force on MP44 and MG42 replicas, although no photos are available due to company policy on those two models.
ARMY, following their Glock 17 GBB replica, is working on a full metal Colt M1911, most probably to compete with the mildly successful Bell EG723.
JLS has finished work on their Beretta RX4 replica, named E-04, and is finally preparing for release.

What's strange is a sudden lapse of creativity at Cyma - this company has no new replicas to announce.

New Chinese Airsoft Guns Appear, Fears Of Crackdown Unsubstantiated

Upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing and all the government fuss that surrounds them seem not to bother airsoft makers down south in Guangdong - two new AEG models announced previously are nearing worldwide release, as announced by RSOV.com. Howa Type 89 by Both Elephant and new FN SCAR-L by Boyi (complete with trademarks) have been added to the shop's offer as "sold out, waiting for new delivery" and "coming soon". The Type 89, as reported earlier, is a full-metal copy of the Tokyo Marui design, mechanical three-round burst included, and the SCAR is apparently a copy of the Classic Army design and comes with an outer barrel extension (taken off by default, although it can be put on and new, longer inner barrel installed). Photos follow.

JG RPK Spotted Around The Corner

Bring out the vodka! JG RPK has appeared on a Chinese wholesale website, this time with some concrete info (minimum order, packaging dimensions, boring shit for shopkeepers), so maybe it’s time to dig out your old Afghanka for hot summer skirmish. Also, JG seems to have gotten smart (as the last report from our agent in China, Maxwell Smart, said shortly before his capture ;) ) and asked for some feedback about what to do next. My bets are on FN FAL and FN FNC.
Also, most of the available JG models are going to be re-released with metal bodies soon. This includes AKs, M16s and G3s, no sight of MP5s yet.

Well R3: What To Do With It?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Everyone's got focused on the Well vz.61 Skorpion replica, but somehow, the next model in line, a full-sized Uzi submachine gun, seems to have escaped people's attention. Ying Yi Toys, the company behind "Well" brand, posted photos of both (along with some M4 variants and a seriously late MP5SD6) on their site, so we might expect some new stuff pretty soon.

In other news: Cyma released a Desert Eagle AEP, which, not so surprisingly, is really butt-honkin'-ugly. Get prepared for reviews of Bell EG707 and EG720 as well, since both are on the way to me.

OY VEY! A GALIL SUMMER!

So, let me put this straight: Cybergun plans to release three Galil models (apparently ARM, SAR and MAR) this summer. The maker is known only to be a Chinese company, most probably Cyma or Boyi.

In other news, the Cyma M134 is a confirmed fake - Echo-1 Minigun is to be made by Japanese company CAW as an AEG, driven by a 12 V battery. In the "real toys" department, there's a M16 replica made by AGM, complete with fake trades, model number unknown. Photo follows.

Wei-E Tech Releases P08 Luger in Silver and Black

Armed Forces HK shop has unveiled the new product from Wei-E Tech, makers of the popular Hi-Capa 5.1 full metal pistol: a full-metal, gas blowback-operated replica of Luger P08 pistol, famous for its widespread use in World War 2. This piece of history comes in three barrel variants: Infanterie (4" barrel), Marine (6" barrel) and Artillerie (8" barrel) and two finishes - blued and chrome.
