andrea parker was born and grew up in southern england, moving to london in the early 90's and taking up post at the legendry fat cat record shop. soon after she contributed to several experimental electronica releases including inky blacknuss (with alex knight), two sandwiches short of a lunchbox (with david morley) and angular art on infonet.  her first single after signing for mo' wax was "melodius thunk"  - which was an electro workout popular with both uk and us djs. "the rocking chair", the second single featured string arrangements by wil malone, probably most well known for his work on massive attack's classic "unfinished sympathy". in 1999, came the release of her widely acclaimed debut album, kiss my arp. parker is an avid enthusiast of other classic analogue synthesisers such as the arp, serge, bouchla and fairlight, choosing them over the current fashion for software synths. the result of this open-minded view is innovative, electronic music which has at it's heart, a love of the art of song writing and which results in emotional yet dance friendly output (not unrecognized by the film industry (vanilla sky etc). more recently, andrea set up her own imprint; touchin bass, the first release of which was the 12" ep "freaky bitches" a collaboration with miami bass innovators dj godfather and dj assault.

concurrent with all her personal productions, andrea has been busy remixing many of the electronic world's luminaries; steve reich, depeche mode, ryuichi sakamoto, lamb and some-times collaborator mira calix. her dj style is uncompromising and eclectic. her early influences shine through; artists including this mortal coil, kraftwerk, the art of noise, nucleus, model 500, ultra magnetic mc's mean that her sets are diverse and never predictable. she's hit the decks on support radiohead on the us part of their kid a tour, experimented live on stage with avant-garde supremos bang on a can, philip glass and steve reich.

her popularity as a dj was confirmed by her instant-sell-out mix for k7's celebrated dj kicks series. the album showcases the variety of her musical loves; she wasn't afraid to fuse hip hop pioneers like man parish with electronic pusher's gescom, the mix reflecting her taste for a hip hop, electro, techno and many classics.

andrea will be joined by some special guests as well as the miso djs for this evening of eclectic electro and electronic music.

convextion has become revered for his deep, textured techno and electro in the same way only his peers basic channel could match.
his releases have been among the deepest, hypnotic, soulful, mysterious, epic and most sought after releases of recent years.

the village orchestra and friends (konx-om-pax / bovine life / production unit) will be providing a live, improvised soundtrack to the first episdode of takashi miike's groundbreaking 6 part drama 'mpd psycho'. based on the manga of the same name, the (live action) part police drama, part comedy, part supernatural horror is full of the transgressive images and blackest of black humour that miike has become famous for with films like audition, ichi the killer and visitor q. we'll be installing a pa and massive screen in the comfortable upstairs of the ivy for this.

running order will look something like this...

upstairs

6pm miso djs
7pm tvo + friends (upstairs seated)

10pm-close convextion

room to swing a pussy - landstrumm, dmx krew, triptych 08
Current mood: pirate

yep. the ivy is filling up pretty quick these days so i'd advise buying some tickets in advance. we had to close the doors at 10pm for neil landstrumm as it was full up. and what a set it was. landstrumm proving why he's remained at the cutting edge of live electronic music - blinder! dirty hospital and konx-om-pax really pulled out the stops too for what was a fantastic night all-in.

anyway, DMX Krew playing a live set next then some very exciting happenings over the next few months.. keep looking...
