Mobile Mollusk on the Move...Again :: The Second City
Current mood: busy
Category: Travel and Places
{*I wrote this as a MySpace comment to a friend, but felt it is pertinent enough to re-post as a short entry here.*}
I realized that I moved here to Warwick, NY, on May 27th, 2007... when I fly to - and move to - Chicago, IL, this Sunday will be April 27th, 2008... means I'll have lived here for EXACTLY 11 months. Just shy of a year.
That is the absolute longest that I have lived in one spot - and not moved - since I graduated high school in June 1999. 9 years worth of moving around - to college, to home, to camp in Maine, to home, to college, to home, to camp in CT -or NY, or ME, or CT again - to NM even.. then to PA... back to NY.... If moving means leaving a place, traveling, moving into a new place, that means I average 4 moves a year. Multiply it by those 9 years, and that's roughly 36 times that I have moved around the country.
And then, of course, there's the strange slip of Time between leaving & then again seeing people we knew or know - where, no matter the distance or time apart, meeting up again even for "Hello" is a leveling field where familiarity & personal karma override senses of lapsed Time.
... Time is such a weird thing. And now I must move again.... tty when the chaos fractal is complete :P ~MCL~

It’s True :: Attitude IS Everything
Current mood: inspired
Category: Life
I've worked too many jobs, with too many people of all ages, to disagree with this following little tribute... And I'd like to add that attitude really is an astonishingly significant part of how you treat the world, and how the world -in turn- treats you back. It's not a bunch of hippie BS or concocted drama - Positivity is a live-saving factor... whether you want to look at that from the perspective of emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, or otherwise.
Try it out. You might like it :) I do.
{the following is snagged from a friend's LiveJournal post}
Attitude
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
"Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
"Hmmm," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did, and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.
"Well," she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
"YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"
Attitude is everything.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly
.......
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to dance in the rain! ~

"Code Monkey"... on Canvas :: art works update ::
Current mood: thoughtful
Category: Web, HTML, Tech
**cross-posted from my LiveJournal account** from :: 30 October 2007 @ 01:17 pm LJ post title :: For Love of Lyrics & Light ::18 :: Jonathan Coulton, "Code Monkey"
I love this song, omg. It's soooo very much the essence of R*I*T for me, reminds me of college & Life with all the geeky nerd pals I have, and I've been playing it on repeat a bunch today. It's not a new song, for sure, but it is a favorite of mine.
Enabled by the Middletown mall run that Neisha & I did on Sunday, after work, and now armed with a couple ready-to-paint-on canvases, some new brushes, and a couple of additions to my paint arsenal, I'm planning to attack some canvas in a bit - Code Monkey running through my head and through my house at loud volumes - painting up some ideas I've gotten for a fun visual of this great tribute to the nerds who are helping run the world... You know, all the super-nice & fun guys & gals who so many people seem to be looking for, in concept, as Life mates - and yet fail to find, because they aren't going to enough office cubicles, LARP meetings, LAN parties, RenFaires, D&D nights, Tech. schools, and the like ;D
I'm blessed to be a geek, with geeky nerd friends ;D
Code Monkey by Jonathan Coulton
Code Monkey get up, get coffee; Code Monkey go to job. Code Monkey have boring meeting, with boring manager Rob.
Rob say Code Monkey very diligent, but his output stink. His code not functional or elegant - what do Code Monkey think?
Code Monkey think Maybe manager wanna write goddamn login page himself! Code Monkey not say it out loud. Code Monkey not crazy, just proud.
Code Monkey like Fritos! Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew! Code Monkey very simple man, with big, warm, fuzzy, secret heart. Code Monkey like you.
Code Monkey like you.
Code Monkey hang around at front desk; tell you "sweater look nice". Code Monkey offer buy you soda - Bring you cup, bring you ice.
You say, "No thank you, for the soda" cause soda make you fat. Anyway, you busy with the telephone - no time for chat.
Code Monkey have long walk back to cubical; He sit down, pretend to work. Code Monkey not thinking so straight; Code Monkey not feeling so great.
Code Monkey like Fritos! Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew! Code Monkey very simple man, with big, warm, fuzzy, secret heart. Code Monkey like you.
Code Monkey like you - a lot.
Code Monkey have every reason to get out this place. Code Monkey just keep on working... See your soft, pretty face.
Much rather wake up, eat a coffee cake; take bath, take nap. This job "fulfilling in creative way" Such a load of crap!
Code Monkey think some day he have everything - even pretty girl like you. Code Monkey just waiting, for now; Code Monkey say "someday, somehow."
Code Monkey like Fritos! Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew! Code Monkey very simple man, with big, warm, fuzzy, secret heart. Code Monkey like you.
Code Monkey like you.

**Thursday 8 Novemeber 2007 - Note :: **
So far, I haven't hit paint onto the canvas yet, but I have actually gotten a graphite sketched rough onto it - a 16x20" pre-primed canvas, that I have hung with the longer length running horizontal - but I am anticipating really getting to work on it sooner than later.
I had a very wonderful surprise of a phone call from one of my favorite friend-people today - Rory < - http://www.myspace.com/CoyneArt - > - and it was great to actually talk to him about painting and some technique issues, among other things. I'm not a painter by passion nor trained in the medium, as he is; it's just something I do on a very occasional basis when gripped with an inspiration for that level of medium & visual mix... but it's something I really enjoy (even when I get frustrated with trying to get the "right" colors or do shading :P ugh).
Hopefully, I'll have something more productive to report at a sooner-than-later Time :)
Cheers to all ye curious artists, critics, geeks, nerds, cubicle slaves, music fans, and un-labeled others. :D ~Mollusk~

Movie Review :: Transformers (2007)
Current mood: busy
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
{This is my review of the movie, as copied-over from my Facebook - Flixster movies application & ratings}
"The Matrix" set a new bar for cinematic expectation, ability, enterainment, and evolution... The new "Transformers" movie is 2 notches above that, and is an incredible form of cinematic evolution.
It does an epic job of balancing SPFX, the Human drama, character build, humor, action, wit, geekdom, music score perfection, emotional power, and smart conceptual future-technology projections mixed with modern concepts.

Mobile Mollusk on the Move :: Gunna be living in NY again!
Current mood: busy
Category: Life
Everyone seriously needs to switch to Facebook, seriously. PLEASE - so I don't have to keep posting this stuff in multiple places, sheesh. lol.
If you aren't on Facebook or LiveJournal, this is going to be a surprise to you:: I just wanted to let everyone know that I am officially moving >out< of SouthWestern PA as of Saturday 26th May 2007. That's right! This is currently my last week of living in Indiana, PA 15701, with my parents & Naomi the guinea pig & the new puppy Cooper.
The situation :: One of my best friends, BrianC (http://www.myspace.com/axplazeboy) has a room opening up in his apartment because his roomie Dan is buying a house & moving out. I have wanting to move to that area for awhile now, for a variety of reasons, so it works out for both of us!
I am moving to Warwick, NY 10990 - located in the Orange County/ Southern NY state area, about 100 miles North of NYC. Warwick is actually very close to the YMCA Camp job I had Summer 2006. I am NOT doing a camp job this year - as of right now, anyways, ha - and I shall keep y'all updated on what, exactly, I WILL be doing. Some of you might be familiar with the Discovery Channel TV show "OCC- Orange County Choppers", the motorcycle-design/family-drama show.... The OCC shop & store are in that area, as well as other attractions like the New York Renaissance Faire (NYRF) & more.
If you would like my new address - which is both my physical & mailing address - then PLEASE ::
1) Get a http://www.facebook.com account, because -if you actually know me from the physical world- you really should just use that instead of MySpace anyways. I'm really serious about this, folks. MySpace is just for random people & networking & playing a tune while people browse yer interests ....meanwhile, Facebook is for actually communicating & keeping in touch with people I know. ---Can't remember my full real name to look me up on Facebook? Just ask me!!! If I know you for real, I shouldn't have a problem telling you :D I'm pretty bad with remembering names... I won't hold it against you, lol.
2) Send me a private MySpace message to ask me for my contact info, and I will happily send it along to you. :)
Sooooo ... yeah! I'm currently single, unemployed, and finally moving into my own real apartment, with my own real room (well, that bit as of July :P ugh), near a bunch of old & new good friends, pretty close to my brother in NYC, AND I am doing freelance design work for Marc Gunn - http://www.myspace.com/marcgunn - an awesome & multi-talented guy whose primary interest is Celtic & Gaelic music... meaning that I'm shortly gunna start having people around the world owning artwork that I have designed & which has my name on it, because they'll be buying his music CDs. CRAZYNESS!!!! Check out Marc's Myspace page for his awesome tunes, as well as a peek at the art I've done for his albums "Irish Drinking Songs: The Cat Lover's Companion", and "A Tribute to Love".
It's all new, it's big change, it's crazy... and I'm lovin' it :D
Cheers & best wishes, everyone! Find me on Facebook & LiveJournal if you really want to stay updated. :D

Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) ::worth reading through::
Current mood: chipper
Category: empowered Life
Molly Note :: If you haven't ever heard this wonderful narrative of wisdom, set to a great back-beat, you should find it (or ask me for it) and listen to it. It is a wonderful piece :D No LJ cut for this - it's too good. Deal with it - it will make you a better person ;D
Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '97 ::
Wear sunscreen.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, 'sunscreen' would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…
I will dispense this advice now ::
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, nevermind. - You will not understand "the power and beauty of your youth" until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked….
You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future. Or worry. But know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindsides you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don't waste your time on jealousy.
Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind… The race is long. And in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your Life… The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees - you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40. Maybe you'll dance the Funky Chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…
What ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your choices are half chance.
So are everybody else's.
Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it - It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.
Dance. Even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do NOT read 'beauty magazines' - they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings. They are the best link to your past, and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go. But for the precious few you should hold on, work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because for as the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths :: prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old.
- And when you do, you'll fantasize that -when you were young- prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you.
Maybe you'll have a trust fund. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. ... But you never know when either one might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen.
~

Movie Review :: '300'
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Okay, so we didn't see it on IMAX, but a large screen presentation in a super-nice theater STILL seeeeems like IMAX compared to a hometown theater screen, lol!
DUDE. 300 is amazing. It is probably one of the most beautifully done films I have ever, ever seen. Truly epic, truly well done, truly beautiful. Yes, it is obviously very graphic, but it's done with such style that even as you flinch for it, its like WOW - this movie is AMAZING. lolol... really.
Stay for the credits, too. You only need to stay for the first 1/3 - even though the credits are comparatively short, it's that first bit that is the truly spectacular part; and there is NOT any 'special stuff' at the end, like Pirates 2 or the Harry Potter movies.
My only issue with my movie experience?? Knowing that, sitting behind me, there was a father that had brought 3 boys -who couldn't have been more than maaaybe age 11- to a movie that was very much and ADULT movie, that was an R movie, and that has a beautifully edited brief sex scene amongst the gore, but it's a sex scene, none-the-less. Having kids at this movie really bothered me.
But the movie itself?? Well, go see it for your self. I say that it is well worth a viewing.
All this from "squeemish girl", too, lololol. Cheers! :D ~Molly~ -
