Comic-Con: Very fun but exhausting
Current mood: tired
Went to Comic-Con in San Diego yesterday. It was a hell of a day. First, I got no sleep at all Friday night, so I was close to passing out after 4 or 5 hours. I felt completely miserable physically but I survived.
I got ready to go around 5 am, then headed to my brother's place at 6:30. We drove to Union Station and took the 7:20 train to San Diego and arrived about 10 am. We walked the mile or so to the convention center quickly and made it just in time to attend a panel on The Simpsons, featuring Matt Groening. They showed some clips for this year's Treehouse of Horror, which was very cool.
We walked the floor between panels. Next we also attended the panel for the new Terminator movie and saw a sneak peak. Next was a Disney-Pixar panel with footage from two upcoming movies. We hung out with some cast and crew from The Sarah Silverman Program before their panel started. We got front row VIP seats and laughed our asses off.
We had tickets to the last train of the night back to LA, so we basically ran to the train station around 8 to make sure we got there in time to get a seat on the 9:15 train. It just so happened that right as we got there, the 8:20 train was leaving. We booked to get on it and get seats, and the train starting movie within 5 minutes of us getting on.
I got some sleep on the train back to LA. I got home at midnight and fell asleep within about 2 minutes.
Next year we'll probably get a hotel room so we have more time and don't have to run around trying to make trains.
It was a good day.

Why does nobody care that gas is nearly $5 a gallon?
In four weeks gas in LA has gone from about $4.05 a gallon to $4.70 a gallon. HOW AND WHY IS THIS HAPPENING, AND WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT IT???!?!

Hey Bush, thanks for the check ... you idiot
Got my $600 "stimulus" check in the mail today. I'm going to stimulate the economy by using this money to make payments on my credit cards.
I'm pretty sure the best way to address the problems facing our country is to give away money. Thank God you only have a few more months left, you freaking moron.

R.I.P. Stan Winston
Current mood: sad
Special effects guru Stan Winston has died. I'm actually really saddened by his passing, as he was one of my idols when I moved out to LA. In the mid-90s I really started to get interested in special effects, largely due to the TV show "Modern Marvels."
I was lucky enough to meet and work for Stan within the past couple of years. It was a dream come true in many ways, and I couldn't believe I was working for THE Stan Winston!
It now means a lot more to me that I am credited as VFX editor for the low-budget thriller "The Deaths Of Ian Stone," co-produced by Winston.
If you don't know much about Stan and all he was responsible for in the world of special effects (The Terminator, Jurassic Park), check out the story here: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2008/06/stan-winston-de.html

Anybody see "The Happening"?
Has anybody seen "The Happening" from M. Night Shamaladingdong? I'm debating seeing this movie at a matinee but would love to hear some feedback. It scored 20% on RottenTomatoes.com, which means most people think it sucked.

New Hulk looks as lame as old Hulk
Current mood: cynical
Well, "The Incredible Hulk" is here, and I must say it looks just as lame as 2003's "Hulk." I've read that people thought the 2003 version of the Hulk looked too CG and not realistic enough, among other things. Well, I don't see much of a difference between 2003's CG Hulk and 2008's CG Hulk.
Maybe the story is better. I can't imagine why Marvel would do a remake of a movie they did 5 years ago unless they had a damn good reason and thought it would be a much better movie. And maybe it's just me, but I don't buy Edward Norton as Bruce Banner for a second. Eric Bana was far more believable.
If anybody who reads my blog sees the new version, I'd love to hear your comments.

I forgot where I left my car
Current mood: hopeful
OK. So I went to my parking space this morning and my car wasn't there. I started to freak out and thought maybe it got towed for some reason.
Then I remembered that last night I went to the Rite-Aid store near my house. It's like two blocks away, and I usually walk there.
So it seems I drove to Rite-Aid and by habit I walked home, leaving my car in the Rite-Aid parking lot. Luckily when I walked over to the store this morning, there was my car, parked where I left it.
My brain is apparently made of mush.

The greatest roller coaster ever
Current mood: pleased
I love roller coasters and spent 11 hours at Six Flags Magic Mountain yesterday. I think I went on 18 rides, which is pretty amazing.
The greatest ride I've ever been on is called Tatsu, where you hang below the track like you're flying.
If you're into coasters, check out the video here.

MrBeaver.net is back
Current mood: anxious
After a long hiatus, MrBeaver.net is back online!
MrBeaver.net is basically a collection of photos and videos ranging from the serious to the hilarious.
If you’ve never visited before, I recommend the videos "MrB Goes To Washington" and "The Dangers of Alcohol". Then follow the navigation bar to see everything else that’s on the site, including hundreds of photos.

Don’t end up like me ... brush your teeth every day!
I just went to the dentist for the sixth time in two months for root canals, crowns and fillings. Cost me about $1500. Moral of the story: BRUSH YOUR TEETH! I never do, and this is what happens.
