Keep Clam!
Current mood: Fishy

we had dinner at  Ivar's Salmon House ~ cripes! it was after 7:30 and the place was PACKED, inside the restaurant and on the patio.  we got a nice table indoors, with a view of Lake Washington.

Ivar's is to Washington as the Mai Kai is to Hawaii!  it's a cedar replica of a Northwest Indian Longhouse with an open-pit Native American-style barbecue for preparing  alder-smoked dishes.

Frank-Todd had the Alder-Cooked Coho Salmon with fingerling potatoes, onions, heirloom tomatoes and spinach.

i had the Grilled Seafood Combo: Shrimp, Halibut with Truffle Oil, Chinook Salmon with Pesto: with garlic spinach and fries.

we shared a  caramelized zabaglione with fresh berries ~ we were suprised when it was served in a sugar basket!

so as Ivar Haglund would say Keep Clam!

We met at Hula Hula to celebrate Sweetpea's birthday!

Sweetpea offers some ginger chicken wings

Kaleila in angst.. which tasty beverage to order?

our waiter/bartender looks at Kaleila sternly. (not really, he's super nice. Just a silly pose)

look what else you missed ~ Praline Bacon Cupcakes (oh yeah, with pecan pie filling) topped with a billowing puff of real Maple Buttercream frosting and dusted with homemade chopped pralines.

Jason ~ a man who totally understands the Power of the Bacon.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

How’s it going Mr. Peterson?
Current mood: K9-y.

It's a dog eat dog world, Woody & I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear.

the restaurant we planned on going to was mysteriously closed. so we ended up at Norm's Eatery & Alehouse ~ where dogs are allowed! the owners are super dog-friendly so they just presume, all their clients have "service dogs"

i had fish & homemade potato chips. todd had the three pepper burger and a manhattan.. we shared a banana & chocolate chip bread pudding.. omg. those are scoops of whipped cream!

yeah, i don't know how to fix red or green eyes. so Trader looks a little bit Cujo-ish.

Snap, Crackle & Pop
Current mood: Krispy

the food at or near dogshows is bleak. fast food, grocery store fried chicken or overpriced, crappy fried stuff at the fairgrounds or expo centers.  so i usually bring something tasty. this weekends' eats were Rice Krispy Treats (some with  mini chocolate chips)

this is a 2 pound bag of puffed rice cereal ~ which made about 6 batches of treats.

yeah, i went cheap, and used store-brand marshmallows and margarine. but really, who in their right mind would complain about this?

oh and here's a tip:  use the microwave to melt the marshmallows. Use an electric knife to cut them into squares. ~ super fast !

Monday, Monday, can’t trust that day
Current mood: finished

Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be
But Monday mornin', Monday mornin' couldn't guarantee
That Monday evenin' you would still be here with me

We had a late breakfast at Rusty Pelican (we went to Geraldine's Counter but it's closed on Mondays, DOH!).

Shani's yummy "Two Egg Breakfast" scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, fruit and a biscuit.

my Two Egg Breakfast: hash browns, eggs scrambled, canadian bacon

wow, they let you have 2 pancakes as your bread choice!

i love this place.. the prices are great and the syrup is real maple!

we went thrift shopping, Shani found a couple tiki mugs ~ and i got this non-witco owl (half off!)

Mimi called and we went over to see her house, and Shani bought a lamp from her. then we had to hustle to get it packed and to the ship.. we made it just in time!

So, that's the end of International Tiki Day Weekend.. whew.
