’I love Zulu girls" track and comic up...
Current mood: adventurous

hey!

just wanted to let everyone know that we have a new track and comic up called "i love zulu girls"

i wanted to give credit to Alex Hing who played the haunting keys and programed some of the drums on the track. it came from a late night drunk jam at doris studios one night. i always wanted to use it for something and now its part or our new tracks for the mtkidu album.

also the SHAKAWON comics will be published weekly and available on the streets of joburg
in a publication called jozi weekly. will let you know when they are in the news agents as soon as i know. otherwise check them out weekly on myspace and facebook.

let us know what you think of it all we would love some feedback...

thanks

kidu

surfs up

I'm back from ...Durban from the ice-box festival... we did a workshop and a gig on the Friday. It was really cool. At the workshop Dean Henning/captain asthma did a presentation on circuit bending and Richard Smith/klick track did an awesome show on live electronica using his vast array of vintage syths and drum machines. Wow!

I tried to really give them a good show at the gig on Friday, Mt and I worked so well together, you could say are really learning our craft. The people went off, I had to keep myself from breaking into a ridicules grin. I was shouting mtv is your enemy out onto the mic in an insane mini Ian Curtis kind of chant. Hayley was wearing her new polka dot dress she bought in Durban; she looked amazing and did an awesome job with the visuals. Mt kept the beat going strong and mixed some crazy feed back looped samples, it created a cool ambiance. In the end we were all happy with the show.

The people in Durban were so open to the experience I felt and it was not the same to Cape Town or a Joburg crowed they were there to see something important… to show that their town/scene is relevant. When we do a gig in Joburg it's more important to be there looking fabulous and being seen. But hey that's the way it is.

We stayed at brads apartment one of the organizers or the Rustpunk movement. He has the best taste in music Mt and I spent most of our free time listening to rad beats and scanning his magazines for cool shit. Also for driving us around a putting up with our moronic ramblings…I'm sure he needs a holiday from us no more Michael Bolton vs. Kenny G arguments.

Dean Henning a Rustpunk organizer/electronic musician artist is also a really cool guy we hung at his apartment and listened to some of his tracks… really fucking good. He has a really tuneful bold style. They all teach at vega and I can see how they are giving back. Two of their students handled the visual reigns, after Dean's wife Rike had completed their superb set with dean.

It was a pity there was not an after party as it seems that the council is really clamping down on culture in Durban, a pity they need to build a scene its all there…rad venues and locations for parties but if people don't realize that its up to them to make shit happened nothing does. Thanks Rustpunk u guys are cool thanks for making it a success.

the dead music of mtkidu
Current mood: thankful

hello boys and girls...

Been meaning to post something for awhile... did a gig at the premises last night with Mt. We showcased some of our demos for our next release... id like to thank Daniel for the article about the electronic stuff that went down in Jozi this weekend.

http://www.chico.mweb.co.za/art/music/listing/music-gauteng.htm

and also Marcus who facilitated the exhibition (we have a lot to learn from those boys).

Mt's robots were rad and if I had lots of cash I would like to fill my house with his army. The other snag is I don't have a house, so he will have to wait...

Big up to Jonno and Greg at @ Tokyo for letting us play some new sounds at Tokyo on Friday. It was a great audience and the floor was packed... until I destroyed the sound system. I still don't think it was my entire fault and it was on our last Chinxxx song. Fuck!

Richard III was amazing...I could feel the crowd explode into a dance freak out when his mash up of la band/Jackson. At this point I realized that I was truly happy at least for a few seconds. That's a lot for me by the way.

So looking back at the past year with Mtkidu, I'm really feeling the mobility/evolution of the kind of music/visuals we make. We can create our own reality destroy it and come back and do what we want. With nobody but our self's to stand in the way.

At the last few gigs of Mtkidu, I began to feel bored with the entire process of promotion of our music. We had manufactured this product and people started to expect us to be this myth that we our self's had created. Mt and I decided... and not a second to late... that we were ending our first project TFTD 0.5.

You will never see those live shows again. So keep it your memory…and if you never saw/heard… imagine…We want them to be special/broken/imagined/bad/noisy /forgotten/emotive/throw away and other stuff that can't be captured on a disk or in a live performance. We have cancelled our website and cancelled all our shows with visuals. Eventually there will only be a faint memory of Klein baas swinging through his strange world.

We are busy working on solo shit like a boy band (as one of my friends pointed out) and also working on new Mtkidu material. We properly will get Mt's robots to perform the new stuff live.

We are so over live music. The future is dead music. Watch this space.
