I just wanted to let you know about a very special new CD. The very best of the legendary Ethiopiques series features a uniquely Ethiopian take on jazz, funk and soul from the 60s and 70s. I absolutely love it as do Elvis Costello, Robert Plant, Patti Smith, Tom Waits, Damon Albarn and Brian Eno. And just look below to see what the press are saying. If you'd like to hear what all the fuss is about have a listen at
..some of the most blistering big band funk, soul and jazz work outs, when Addis was as hot as Muscle Shoals' Mojo 4 stars
.. almost every track is thrillingly addictive ' Uncut 5 stars
..a well-focused, illuminating insight into the richness of Ethiopian music through 28 tracks of mesmerizing playing and singing' The Wire
..Smouldering jazz from the moodiest midnight dive, wild jabbering vocals that make Little Richard quite polite, mighty soul brass, ancient dusty lyres, lonely pianos, the most convoluted time signatures ever' fROOTS
Some of the messages I've recieved are addressed to Mulatu. Sorry for the confusion but this page was created as a fan site so that more people could discover Mulatu's music and spread the word.

. With the exception of the Ethiopiques CDs and the Broken Flowers soundtrack, as many of you know, it is not easy to find Mulatu Astatke's music. Unfortunately most of the Astatke music you will find, with the exception of the aforementioned CDs, will be on LPs or records.
