Laura Jean & Grand Salvo - Saturday July 5th 1pm

LAURA JEAN AND GRAND SALVO LIVE AT MUSIC FARMERS

Two rising Melbourne based folk artists Laura Jean and Grand Salvo team for a run of dates that includes a show at Music Farmers in Wollongong on Saturday July 5th.

Jean's lush pastoral debut album in 2006, 'Our Swan Song', raised eyebrows here and reached the ears of Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody who invited her to join the band's two Aussie tours in 2007. Each night, Jean sang Martha Wainwright's part of the duet 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar', and in doing so reached a whole new fanbase. It gave her the confidence to make the concept album 'Eden Land' which explores self-discovery, sexual awakening and loss of innocence through a suite of nine songs. As opposed to 'Our Swan Song', which was a three year labour of love, Eden Land came effortlessly, the songs written in seemingly direct communication with Laura's subconscious, and recorded in just five days with Sydney producer Chris Townend at his BJB Studios. Its otherworldly atmosphere, she says, came as she wrote it. "I realised that I was speaking about a reality that wasn't necessarily earthly, but could be from a parallel place," she says. "I decided about halfway through that I could hear a land called Eden Land."

Grand Salvo's album 'Death' is out now on Spunk. 'Death' is a complete fable of rich proportions. A bird, a rabbit, a rat, a bear and a man all tell their own tale, coming together to weave a fairytale grand with orchestral ideas.

Laura Jean and Grand Salvo play at Music Farmers on Saturday July 5th. The show starts and 1pm and is all ages.

Rest In Pieces Exhibition

'Rest In Pieces'
July 19th 2008
6pm -9pm
Music Farmers
5 Crown Lane, Wollongong

Poncho Army & Kezia have joined spray can and paint brush to give Wollongong a look at the underground art that is pushing it's way to the surface in the steel fueled city.
In an exhibition titled
'Rest In Pieces' these 2 artists will showcase an extensive collection of their work that travels through graffiti, pop art, collage and illustration.

Both artists are 26, female, reside in Wollongong and share a love of loud gritty rock'n'roll, art anDIY culture. All characteristics identifiable through their art.

For this exhibition Poncho Army combines bold stencil graffiti with various mixed media to build pieces that are cutting the edges between chaos and simplicity.

Kezia has deconstructed the traditional way of painting and re-moulded the art form to create art faggery from the debauched. It is explosive, haunting yet beautiful and styled in a fashion that can't be compaired to any other.

The art at 'Rest In Pieces' could be described as Pop Art holding a sledge hammer!

This Weekend at Music Farmers

We have two shows happening here this weekend at Music Farmers. They are both free and all ages.
------------------------------------------------------
LEADFINGER
SATURDAY MAY 31ST AT 2PM

Wollongong based rock trio Leadfinger are set to launch their new CD 'Through The Cracks' with an all ages show at Music Farmers on Saturday May 31st. Originally a solo project for singer/guitarist Stewart Cunningham, in 2007 Leadfinger became a band with the addition of well klnow local musicians Wayne Stokes on Bass and Steve O'Brien on drums.

Stewart spent the nineties originally as a member of Proton Energy Pills, and then fronting Brother Brick, while also playing guitar in Asteroid B-612, Challenger 7 and The Yes Men. Spending more recent times behind the kit with Monstrous Blues and The Unheard, it was in the early nineties when Steve established himself as drummer as a member of Tumbleweed, a group that toured extensively and released a number of successful albums. For Wayne his path into the world of rock was via highly respected psychedelic rock group Thumlock, a band that toured regularly and released music both locally and internationally.

With the three coming together to form Leadfinger, the band got to work recording their first music as a band (Cunningham has previously released a solo album under the Leadfinger name) at Tongarra Studio's, south of Wollongong. With a relaxed atmosphere, they were able to take their time during the recording process and when done emerged with twenty tracks. Half of the session will be released in Europe on the Bang label, while the other tracks make up 'Through The Cracks', Cunningham's first proper Australian release, after releasing countless cds and records internationally.

Part rock n roll, part power pop, part blues and slightly country, the eight track effort is a fresh blast on the rock landscape. While consolidating what rock fans across the globe love about good old fashioned Australian rock n roll, Leadfinger make enough adjustments to put their own stamp on the lands much talked about sound.

Leadfinger 'Through The Cracks' is out now nationally through Amphead.

Come along and see the band live :
