Current mood: Vice Presidential
Category: Vice Presidential News and Politics
I am blogging to publicly announce that I have accepted the opportunity to be the running mate of my friend and US Presidential Candidate Rhaab.
I feel his Presidency will bring a much needed breath of fresh air to Washington in that he is a truly honest candidate that will bring transparency to government. Citizens will no longer have to wonder if their president will secretly extend and exceed his constitutionally granted power because Rhaab will openly extend and exceed his constitutionally granted power. It's that kind of honesty that America needs.
Now I must address what it is I will do as Vice President. Well, not much. It is as the first VP, John Adams, called it; "the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived." I will break the tie votes in the Senate as need be and I will do my very best to look solemn at funerals for other heads of state, though we may need to use some tax money to update my wardrobe.
I do have one task in front of me any that is to restore the honor to the position of Vice President (I cannot restore the dignity...it never had any). First off, I vow to always spell the word "potato" correctly (V-O-D-K-A). I also vow to never to engage in an embarrassing public display of affection with my wife because I'm not married. As I am entering politics, I cannot vow to never engage in an embarrassing public display of affection with someone else's wife. Finally, I vow America will never have to endure the embarrassment of hearing a lawyer I accidentally shot while hunting apologize for being shot. I will accomplish this by ensuring any lawyers I "accidentally" shoot while hunting don't survive the incident.
Yes, I fully support Rhaab and the goal of the Humanitarian party To Serve Man. I hope we can count on your unswerving, almost frighteningly obsessive support, because we can make a difference.

Clarification
Current mood: content
Category: Life
I was at a gathering with friends on Saturday and I realize that I said something that wasn't entirely clear...more depressive than what I had intended. Basically the statement was related to the fact that as I've gotten older, my daydreams have become a bit less fantastic and that I've accepted it's very unlikely that I will become rich and/or famous through any of my creative endeavors.
The problem is that I left the impression that I would be giving up on the concept which is entirely wrong. I think the main point is that I won't be disappointed if nothing comes of my various wacky ideas, but I will continue to have and pursue them. The main thing is that my creative pursuits need to remain enjoyable. If something comes of it, that's great, but I can't let lack of response/interest discourage me. I hope that's less depressing.

Classic Fortune
Current mood: amused
Category: Games
So a little over a week ago I had some Chinese for dinner and as tradition dictates, I received a fortune cookie. Like most basically juvenile minded people I know, I look to play one of the variations for tacking on a special ending. This one was classic when "in bed" was added. "Your skills will accomplish what many cannot." One of the best I've seen. Feel free to comment back with favorites you've encountered.

Losing a legend
Current mood: sad
If you hadn't heard Rock pioneer Bo Diddley died. This was a man who was a favorite of my father and a major influence on music, not just rock. I'm a little disappointed by the AP obit I linked, but it's really hard to appreciate the contributions he made. Most know the signature rhythm, less well known are his technical contributions to electric guitar effects. But more to my point, he was a charismatic performer and a joy to watch, but I suppose you couldn't write a proper description. Suffice it to say, he was better in his 70s than many performers were at their peak. I'm glad I got to see him once, and thrilled he was around long enough so I could see him again.

Proud of my family
Current mood: Positive
Category: Positive Life
This last week my brother's wife tested to become an LPN after several years of additional education. Sometime in the fall, she will finish her nursing education to become an RN. I know she's heading into one of the hardest lines of work there is, and quite possibly the most under appreciated, up there with teaching.
As important as that is, I cannot overlook my wonderful, not quite 8 year old niece who yesterday had 12 inches (yes a full foot) of her blonde hair cut off to donate for wigs to go to child cancer patients. I wish I could just give her the biggest hug right now.

Answer to a question I never asked.
Current mood: animated
Category: Pets and Animals
I had never actually wondered what my dog might look like if drawn as a Manga style Japanese school girl, but yet I now know.
Ms. Dora giving a look I see very often. Feel free to add captions.

manga version?

Please note the various Chinese Zodiac animals around the school girl and which one is in her...erm...lap? That's how it actually was drawn. I have made no edits.

Men clueless.
So ladies, if there is a man who seems oblivious to your advances it isn’t necessarily that he isn’t interested. It’s apparently just as likely he doesn’t even know. Lord knows I can’t tell.

Tucson report
Current mood: Knurd
Category: Knurd Sports
I suppose that since I’ve been back for a few days, I should blog a bit about my trip. As far as the Colorado Rockies go, I am concerned about our starting pitching once we get through Francis, Cook and Jiminez, but the bullpen looks good. They seem to have the plays working fine, sacrifice bunts, steals, hit & run all seem healthy. No reason to think we can’t compete for the division again so long as there aren’t too many injuries.
But there is more to see in Tucson than spring training baseball. I spent portions of two days at Pima Air & Space Museum. If you like military aircraft, go and take the tour of the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG). It’s also called the "Boneyard."
I also brought my bicycle down and got to do some riding (in the morning hours 7-9 a.m.) on the fine network of bike trails in Tucson. I understand how they got a gold rating for their bicyclist friendly city. You just have to get out before it gets too late in the day.
And a visit to the Tucson area would not be complete without a trip to the Saguaro National Park. It’s fascinating the way life developed there. Eventually I’ll have some pictures resized to upload here. Unlike my auto show trip, I actually have the pictures on one of my computers already.

Like an animal we thought was extinct.
Current mood: Weary
Category: Weary Life
So I’m in transit to Tucson, AZ to catch a little late spring training baseball. I stopped to get a little cash because my dumb ass forgot before I left. I found an ATM that still distributes in $10 increments. I cannot recall the last time I saw that.
Also, even sharing the driving, 710 miles is a long day.

Revenge Tour
Current mood: Knurd
Category: Knurd Games
The first time I play through a video game, I try my best to play it straight. No cheats, few hints, but I will consult maps if it’s a role-playing type game. I just completed Ys: Ark of Napishtim (that’s Ys VI, for those keeping track, but it’s the first released in the US of A since Ys III). The elements that made the the game one of my favorites for my TurboGrafx-16 were retained and the overall play improved. It wasn’t terribly difficult on the normal setting. But there were some enemies in the game that made me mad. So now I have unleashed the cheats and am strolling through the game again, nigh invulnerable, unleashing my rage at the more difficult elements. It completes the game experience for me.
Sometimes I wish this were available for older games, though. It’d get old, but wouldn’t there be some fun in being able to eat the ghosts at any time in Pac-Man? How about being able to stamp on the snake in Q-Bert? How about throwing the barrel’s back at Donkey Kong? OK, maybe it wouldn’t be that fun. But I WOULD like to have a god mode on Sinistar. I want that bastard to beware that I live.
