MySpace Updates
Category: MySpace
From Tom http://www.myspace.com/tom
"so we rolled out the new home page today - try it out! you can try and come back to the classic view at anytime if you don't like it. (and no, we are not phasing out the classic view.) we're going to be providing you with some different color combinations for the homepage, and some different layouts. eventually you'll be able to drag and drop the different parts so you can emphasize the parts that are important to you. (like say you want your friends box to appear up top, you'll be able to move it in front of the status updates!)
the music player on your profile now has a volume control and a song history link. song history will show the songs you've previously added to your profile. it gives you a way to see more of the songs your friends are into. we'll also let you customize the look & color of the player, but that's not finished yet!
today we also launched new forums (click forums on the main menu). forums now let you save posts and has a hotlink to see all your own posts. in a few weeks you'll be able to search posts, and use a rich text editor to post in bold, italics, & colors. it also has new options for moderators so we'll have more forum moderators and it'll be easier for them to keep the annoying people from ruining the forums!
on the friends view and on the profile, you'll soon see "View all friends, view online friends, view mutual friends, and view recently added friends." some of these options are available in the drop down on the view all friends page, but now we're putting them on the profile page itself so its more prominent. these links will be turned on gradually over the week (recently added will come last.) right now the new links are showing up on some browsers even when the user tried to hide those links with codes.. we're figuring out why that's happening and fixing it. things should be set right soon!
in the photos section we changed the editing interface so you can easily move & delete mass photos. captions are easier to enter. some people were confused about how you set a photo as your default, or how to make it as your album cover. just click on the photo itself and you'll see those options. you can also now tag photos and link them to a friend's profile.
in account settings we have added a spam tab, which lets you do a variety of things - you can make it so someone must be your friend to send you a message. you can set it so someone cannot add you without knowing your last name or email (really cuts down on random friend ads). you can also set it so someone must enter a CAPTCHA to send you a friend request. this will also cut down on people adding you randomly. if you choose this setting make sure you've entered your real name on your profile so that your friends can add you by name.
some other things you may have not noticed - the addressbook has been improved and you can now compose messages without going to your friends profile. because so many people change their display names on myspace, its sometimes hard to find your friends easily from the compose command. that's the idea behind the addresbook - you can save friends in your addressbook and enter your own name for them. if my friend calls himself goofdork124 and changes his display name & pic everyday, i can store him in my addressbook as Ronald Hassledorf and know who it is. (no, i don't really have a friend named Hassledorf.. haha.. ) the addressbook is kind of hidden/low-profile now, but we're going to be adding it to the mail and profile sections so you can easily access it and use it from the mail compose command. stay tuned!
keep sending me comments about what you want to see. that's where all the ideas are coming from - your feedback!! thx!"

MySpace Password Stealing Websites
Category: MySpace
People, If you are already logged into myspace, then you should NOT have to see another login page unless you sign out!!! PLEASE READ & SPREAD THIS! 1. DO NOT use the same password for you myspace and email 2. DO NOT LOGIN TO MYSPACE UNLESS YOUR WEB ADDRESS SHOWS: http://login.myspace.com/ or http://www.myspace.com/ -------------------------------
If you have a percent signs and "DA" on your page then you are hacked. Also you will seethat you will get a login page after clicking on the top half of your profile. Removal 1. Remove this code from your profile:

2. Make sure you change your Myspace AND your email password. Make sure they are NOT the same. See a hack page: if you go here http://202.104.236.182/111/ and look at the two fake pages a hacker built (links 110 & 111) DO NOT LOGIN IN HERE , but you'll see that I found that this person set up a fake MySpace login page BUSTED!! They will most likely take these down soon if I don't figure out how to shut them down first. Also look at the fake pages to see the RED info I posted.

MySpace Profile Trackers, The Dangers of
Category: MySpace
First of all - DO NOT INSTALL PROFILE WATCHER.EXE
It will hack your account and system Description: Dubious application that pertains to monitor myspace accounts. Closely affiliated with Zango, the application has direct links to Zango videos under the "Cool Videos, Games, & More" tab. Any application that requires you to enter private credentials, as this one does, warrants a healthy dose of cautious scepticism. Vendor: zpsearch.com Vendor URL: http://www.zpsearch.com
Myspace tracking services compared (http://www.zieak.com/2007/01/05/myspace-tracking-services-compared/) "I have used a few different services to track the visitors to my myspace page. I still rely on my AXS install to provide the most reliable data about visitors. You can read about how i use that here.
ProfileViewsPlus - This embeds a quicktime movie into your page which guarantees that you won't get IDs for every visitor. The script also has a gif image that seems to load placeholders for "unidentified visitors" but people that view your profile that are not signed in to myspace will show as unidentified also. I like this service because it doesn't load any self promotional images or unwanted links to mess up your profile. A huge bonus is that it displays the IP address of visitors so I can use it to connect a face to an IP address in my AXS logs. One huge downside (other than the quicktime embed) is that the site seems to be down a lot.
SocialSpy - This service's code is a tiny gif image. They don't load any self promotion or ads either. The service seems to have decent uptime and seems to log most visitors to my profile. The only downside is that this service relies on you and the other members to identify each of the visitors to your profile. So if you install the code and then later get a comment from someone you can look at the date and time and try and match the two. I have noticed a consistent problem with the times logged not matching the times displayed on myspace so it can be a little tricky.
Trakzor - This site loads a few text ads for their other services and loads an animated image to promote the service. I don't like either of those tactics very much. This functions similar to socialspy - you need to identify visitors. They do give a location as pulled from the IP address but don't give you their IP. Setting the time is very intuitive and accurate. An added bonus is the mashup with google maps that displays the location of the visitors to your profile. A sleek interface is an added bonus. [edit: It has been reported that Trakzor was blocked from myspace. But Dave (the owner of Trakzor) has been kind enough to straighten that all out.]
Trackspace - This myspace tracking service does not load any ads or self-promotional text to your profile. It allows you to identify visitors to your profile if they can't figure them out. It gives you an ip address and a physical location to help figure things out also. There are some ads on the pages and right now a picture of President George W Bush is showing up in the middle of the recent visitors right now. This service allows you to send notices to cell phones if someone you have identified visits your profile. I have no real use for this but some people might find a reason to enable it."

D.M.S.H. Facts:How to protect your pictures online!
Category: MySpace
I have gotten many requests for a "Right-Click disable code to prevent people from stealing (copying) their pictures. There is code for this but it requires adding a web language called JavaScript. For security reasons, MySpace does not allow JavaScript as it can be used for harmful coding techniques. You can test it, but I'm sure it will not work. Disabling Right click with .. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/noright.htm
---WONT STOP A GURU!!!----
Just so you know though, this does not stop people from getting your pics. All they have to do is make a entire snapshot of their computer screen (Print Screen button), and then paste it into a graphics editor. For this reason the best thing to do is to edit your pics with your MySpace URL, website name, or another truly unique..copyrighted personal identifier so that the pic itself is related to you. See my pic below for an example. You'll see my website in the picture. This is much more difficult to edit out.

I just use Microsoft Paint to add in the text.
1. Open the pic in MS Paint (Start > Programs > accessories 2. Go to View and uncheck "Draw Opaque". 3. Go to VIEW and make sure the TOOL BOX is checked. 4. Click on the "T" and draw a bax wherever you want your text (.i.e. MySpace URL, website, nickname, etc). 5. Save the pic with a new name incase you want to keep the original picture without the text on it. I like to use something like "picturename1_sig.jpg". Sig meaning signature.
Enjoy!

MYSPACE WORM FIX 12.04.06
Category: MySpace
Please do this A.S.A.P. so this thing does not spread any farther. I already contacted MySpace about it. The danger is that this supposedly is causing fake login pages on some people's computers, and therefore stealing people's login information. I have screenshots and instructions below.
FIRST CHECK YOUR NAVBAR: Check your MySpace Have Bar. You have the worm if: 1. If it is in a strange blue box with hovering text, and you did not set that up yourself 2. It sends you to a fake login page DO NOT LOGIN ON THAT PAGE 3. You get a "Page cannot be displayed"
Click the snapshot below:

NOW DELETE THE CODE: 1. Go into edit mode (Edit Profile) 2. Copy and paste your whole 'About Me' code into another program like Microsoft Word, Windows Notepad, or other text editor. This will keep your About Me text safe if you mess up. 3. Go almost to the bottom of your 'About Me' section 4. Look for code in the screenshot below. It will start and end with style tags and have the work login all in it" 5. Delete that whole section of code between and including the style tags in the brackets. It typically runs to the bottom of the About Me section unless you have a video above your Friends List. Below is a snapshot of the code (click it):

5. Save your page!
NOW CLEAR YOUR BROWSER CACHE Below are a few sites and text that show you how for your web browser type. http://support.lexis-nexis.com/lexiscom/record.asp?ArticleID=wg_cache
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/errors/errors-17.html
To clear your cache in Internet Explorer: Close all but one web browser window. Click the 'Tools' menu at the top of your browser, and select 'Internet Options.' Click the 'General' tab at the top of the dialogue box. Click 'Delete Files' under 'Temporary Internet files.' Select 'Delete all offline content' by checking the box. Click 'OK.'
To clear your cache in Mozilla Firefox: Close all but one web browser window. Click the 'Tools' menu at the top of your browser, and select 'Options.' Click 'Privacy.' Click 'Clear' next to 'Cache.' Click 'OK.'
To clear your cache in Mozilla and Netscape: Close all but one web browser window. Click the 'Edit' menu at the top of your browser, and select 'Preferences.' Click the '+' next to 'Advanced.' Select 'Cache' under 'Advanced.' Click 'Clear Cache.' Click 'OK.'
To clear your cache in Safari: Close all but one web browser window. Open the 'Safari' menu on your browser's toolbar. Select 'Empty Cache.' Click 'Empty' in the dialogue box. In some cases, it may be necessary to clear your cache more than once.
Hope this helps! Daniel

IMPORTANT NEWS: New MySpace Worm!!!
Category: MySpace
I've been fixing profiles lately and now received some of this text from a fellow MySpace friend. I need to pass this on. Please spread the word!!
Signs you are infected with this new MySpace Worm (a program that spreads through email systems):
1. Your page loads VERY slow and portions do not load at all.
2. Upon entering your page a windows pop up notification occurs. It is the RUN ACTIVE X one that pops up.
3. *****There is a light blue bar at the top of your profile page that has the words home, browse, search, invite, etc. This bar is no longer light blue it changes to DARK blue. In some cases it will not even show up.*****
4. But the number one way to find out if your profile is infected you must do the following:
Go to EDIT PROFILE by your default pic on your home page.
Click this and inside edit profile look for SAFE EDIT MODE at the top right part of this page.
Click SAFE EDIT MODE.
Now look at the bottom section of your ABOUT ME section.
If you see multiple words of the same url that you did not install you are infected. Basically it is many repeat urls.
Usually it will have the word "login" repeated also. This is because this worm is used to steal your password.
Now look at the bottom part of your MOVIE section in SAFE EDIT MODE.
You will also see unusual html here. Things that you did not put there.
At this point go back to your home page. Go to EDIT PROFILE and remove EVERYTHING that you did not put in your ABOUT ME and MOVIE section!
The worm info will be at the BOTTOM of these two sections and you must remove ALL of it.
Now go to the top of the page and click SAVE ALL CHANGES. This updates your profile so you no longer have the worm.
IMPORTANT
People have said you can get this simply by going to an infected page, but I (http://www.myspace.com/myspacetweaking ) have yet to see this. I have not been able to reproduce such action. I would say for you all to keep an eye out for each other and REFER THEM TO MY BLOG for this fix. I will monitor my blog and page to make sure it stays clean. This is what another person wrote:
"But I have discovered that all you have to do to get infected by the worm again is go to an infected profile unfortunately. So hopefully MySpace will get this fixed soon."
Now click on account settings on your home page and change your password! I suggest you make your password a combo of letters and numbers. At least 7 but you can make it up to 9 which is the MySpace limit.
