students rights

A lesson that should be taught in all schools!

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha

Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten.

On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

Looking around, confused, they asked,  "Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?"

She replied, "You can't have a desk until you tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk."

They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."
"No," she said.

Maybe it's our behavior." She told them, "No, it's not even your behavior.

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom.

Martha Cothren said, "Throughout the day no one has been able to   tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you."

At this point, Martha Cothre n went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.

Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall.

By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, "You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it."

God said no
Current mood: understanding

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh,
finally you have the idea.

THIS DAY IS YOURS DON'T THROW IT AWAY

May God Bless You,

Entrusted

Unto your weak and feeble hands I have entrusted a power beyond estimate. To you I have given that which has been denied your most learned fellows.

Not to scientists or statesman, Not to wives or mothers, Not even to priests or ministers have I given this gift of healing other addicts, which I entrust to you.

It must be used unselfishly, it carries with it grave responsibilities. No day could be too long, no effort too great, no task too difficult, no case too pitiful.

It must be used with tolerance, because I restricted its application to no race, no creed, and no denomination.

YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BECAUSE YOU ARE THE OUTCASTS OF THE WORLD, AND YOUR LONG EXPERIENCES AS ADDICTS HAS MADE YOU HUMBLY ALERT TO THOSE DESPERATE CRIES THAT COME FROM THE LONELY HEARTS OF ADDICTS EVERYWHERE.
