Black Ink Horror XXX issue - available for pre-order!
The sick and twisted XXX issue of Black Ink Horror is ready for pre-order! In it is my story Anorotica. I'm not sure what headspace I was in at the time I wrote it, but let me tell you - it's a doozy! I've seen the illustrations that accompany my story and they are insane - love it!
To grab a copy for yourself, click here:
http://www.sideshowpresspublications.com/Black_Ink_Horror.html
This special, full-color edition of Black Ink Horror is devoted to horror stories of the extreme variety. Sex and gore abound in this 50 page, highly collectible edition. Each of the five tales is accompanied by three illustrations. This one is not for the prudish or easily offended--we cut our artist loose on XXX, and they left nothing to the imagination. For added collectibility, this issue will be printed by Chris Hedges of Insidious Publications ( http://www.insidiouspublications.com/ ) fame. Chris prints and binds all of his books by hand, and his work is just stunning.
NOTE: Tony Karne's cover art was so sick, we had to blur some of the action to make it clean enough to post on line. The real covers will NOT be blurred.... XXX is limited to only 100 copies. We expect this one to sell out quickly, so be sure to reserve your copy ASAP. We expect the books to ship in late August/ Early September.
50 pages / 8 x 5 / Saddle stitched / COLOR!
This issue is going to rock!

Rejection - new sub - Cloverfield
Well, it was nice to have made it to the second round, but unfortunately I was rejected from Sword &Sorceress. Still - it was a nice rejection and I never would have written the story had I not tried.
Now, fingers crossed again - I just sent out a story for Weird Tales. I LOVE that magazine but never felt confident enough to send anything to them. Now a few years later I feel it's time to give them a try :)
Also this weekend the family and I watched Cloverfield. Since I'm prone to motion sickness at the drop of a hat - I waited to rent it. I was surprised it didn't bother me as much as I expected. Overall it wasn't a bad movie - had some moments where I jumped and I liked the brief moments of humor. The monster was actually a bit scary looking - which was refreshing after seeing so many CGI things that just don't cut it for me. The actors were successful in making me believe they were scared. I was left with a lot of questions, and it wasn't my favorite of endings - but it was good entertainment in the end.
Okay - off to work on a WIP!

This and that
Well, unfortunately my story Doll Parts didn't make it into Bits of the Dead anthology. I'm kinda bummed - but hubby and my son have made it an extra special Mother's Day for me - so it's all good *BG*
The weather was perfect! Hubby made a nice brunch, then we played mini golf and saw Iron Man. We came back home and played some games, then hubby made a delicious dinner - yummers! I got some wonderful gifts - but my favorite was a handmade card from my son. He is always so sweet and creative.
Loved Iron Man - far exceeded my expectations. Robert Downey Jr was a great choice for the part - I'm very impressed!
All in all - fun day and yeah - I'm proud to be a mom :)
Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!!!

Sweeney Todd
Watched this movie last week and thought it was done well. I'm a HUGE Tim Burton fan and truly appreciate his twisted creative genius mind :) I also am a HUGE fan of Johnny Depp who did a fabulous job singing with an accent. Actually save for a couple characters everyone did a decent job singing - especially the young boy.
While not exactly a feel-good movie I enjoyed it very much.

2nd time a charm???
Well, I received a nice rejection from Sword & Sorceress but sent in my backup story, so we will wait an see. The nice thing is they get back to you within a week, so you aren't biting nails for too long ;) I felt I tried too hard in the first submission and after I'd read it over a few times I realized I also tried to pack in too much story into what was intended for a short story.
This second story is different from the first one, so we'll see. Fingers crossed again. Since I likely won't try a 3rd time thanks to a bunch of deadlines I need to meet, I'm hoping that in this case the 2nd time is a charm ;)

Sent in a new submission
Okay, so fingers crossed. I sent in a submission to Sword and Sorceress Vol. 23. I enjoyed writing the story and look forward to hearing a response about it. Considering there are 22 volumes preceding this one - and this is my first sword/sorcery story I'm not certain it will be what they're looking for - but I'm hopeful. Either way it was nice to mix things up and try something new :)
