Watch out for me in a Discover Card Commercial
I hope everybody's summer has been going well. I know it's been a while since I posted an update! Watch out for me in a 'Discover Card' commercial which I filmed over a month ago. I imagine it will be airing soon!
You may have noticed that I added a three videos. The 'Hard Impact' trailor, the 'Urban Rush' television interview and the 'National Aboriginal Achievement Awards' that aired on Global Television that some of you may have missed.
This weekend I will be filming my first lead in a Moka Only music video. Ya, ya, ya! I know what you are all thinking. It's because I'm dating the singer. Ha ha. But hey, I have some credit, the song is about me so I better be the lead! We are filming on Vanouver Island. I won't give you too much detail about the video. You will just have to wait and see. Speaking of Moka Only music video's, some of the 'BT Girls' and I will be in the latest Moka Only/Fatty Down/Deezuz music video which has not been released. When it DOES get leaked, watch out for the girls!!!!
Next week I am going to be at the 'Tribal Journey's Artist Market' and the 'Cowichan Indigenous Games' in Duncan, BC. Shannon and I will be hosting the games on Tuesday, August 5th and Saturday, August 9th. I will be there for just over two weeks starting this Monday so I hope to see some of you there!!! And if you do go, make sure to drop by the 'BT Girl/Bakertwin Booth' at the traders market and say hello to me! I'm not mean in person, I promise!!
Vote for 'Reddnation' for best music video for the song 'Wiggle Dem Toes' at the Aboriginals Peoples Choice awards at www.aboriginalpeopleschoice.com. Shannon and I were featured in their video. Please, please and thank you!!!
By the way, buy a 'BT Girl Calendar'!
XOXO Shauna Baker

Georgia Straight Article
Shannon Baker (left), Nettie Longee, and Shauna Baker break down stereotypes while tearing the Georgia Straight to shreds. June 23, 2008 Baker Twins break stereotypes with native American women's calendar Buying a new calendar for 2008 is still on my to-do list. With only 191 days left in the year, I figure it's best to get a head start on 2009, so the release of a 16-month BT Girls Native American Women's Calendar puts an end to my woes. Cocreators Shannon and Shauna Baker, better known as the The Baker Twins, put it together as a way of celebrating the beauty and talent (hence BT Girls) of First Nations women across Canada and Washington State. The calendar is a personal reflection of the twins' own history and background as aboriginal women who have built successful modelling and acting careers. According to a media release, the girls were quoted as wanting to put an end to the westernized view of First Nations people. "Many people do not know that many First Nations people are successful doctors, lawyers, teachers, actors, welders, nurses, singers, models, etc." Shannon said. "In the media, there is almost no portrayal of First Nations people living in the present day. The world needs to stop stereotyping First Nations people and start showing this through the media, and that is what we are doing with this calendar." Each month displays one of the 12 women, all from different tribes, in a photo shoot with the Baker twins. A peek at the calendar reveals not only some beautiful women but also a very creative way of using up all those Straights lying around my house. Wearing a strapless mini multi-layered dress made entirely of 21 different Georgia Straight newspapers, model Nettie Longee is featured in the month of May with a Baker Twins original design. For more information about the Baker twins, as well as how to purchase the calendar, visit the girls' website.

A man in Utah almost attacked me!!!
I had such a wonderful time at the 'Gathering of Nations' this past week in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shannon and I met so many amazing people from different nations across Turtle Island! I didn't get to wonder around too much, I pretty much stayed at my 'BT Girl' booth in the tent. But I really appreciate that there was so many people that went to the Gathering of Nations just to meet Shannon and I! How sweet is that!?! Shannon and I brought our 'BT Girls Calendars' to sell at the pow wow.

On our drive back unfortunately everything that could go wrong went wrong! We got a flat tire in Colorado so we had to get that fixed but it delayed our journey a few hours.
When we arrived in Utah, we stopped at a small gas station in a small town in the middle of the night. While I was on my way to the ladies washroom I noticed a man was looking at a picture outside of the womens bathroom. I went to the womens washroom and the man followed me in! There was two stalls in the washroom. I was in a stall towards the end of the washroom and he was standing outside of my stall washroom waiting for me to get out. I saw his feet at the open space between the bottom of the door and the floor. At first I was thinking maybe I was just being paranoid and maybe it was a lady waiting to use my washroom. But he was standing too close to the door. Finally the man went into the stall next to mine and I looked at the bottom and his feet was too close to the door. (He was definitely not using the toilet. He was too far away to be sitting down)
My knees and hands were shaking so hard but I knew that I had to try to calm down and think of different strategies on how to get out of this situation. If I had a phone I would have text messaged my friend Joshua to come get me in the bathroom. (He was waiting in the car along with my sister and Gramma) I know that people don't respond to yelling 'Rape' but the public does respond to 'Fire'. I thought that if he grabbed me was going to yell 'Fire, fire!' as loud as I could.
I decided not to flush the toilet. I'm sure he was waiting for me to flush the toilet and then attack me. Instead I slowly opened the door to my stall and run to the doorway. I noticed the door to his stall was partly open so it would be easier for him to get me. So when I ran past his stall I slammed his door as hard as I could (thank god it had a door knob so it clicked closed) and ran towards the door. I noticed that the door was locked from the inside! I was able to unlock it and run out of the store.
It didn't occur to me to contact the police about what happened until we were on the road. Honestly, I just wanted to get out so fast and it didn't come during the time it happened. My Gramma told me later on that the only people in the store was people travelling on the Greyhound bus that was parked by. Scary stuff!!!! I don't think I can ever use a public washroom again!!!

BT Girl Calendar getting printed this week!
So I hope you were able to watch the 'National Aboriginal Achievement Awards' this year on Global Television and APTN. Shannon and I were honored to present the youth award to a very young pilot named Boyd Benjamin. We went to Prince George last week to present another youth award at the Carrier Sekani Youth Achievement Awards and at the last minute we were asked to model in a fashion show for a clothing designer named Natasha Catcheside (Shannon and I went to high school with her). My little sister Emily Pearson and my two little cousins Kailee Duncan & Carissa Duncan got to model in the show as well. They are all sooooo cute! We extended our stay to visit the family. My boyfriend bought me a Nintendo DS for my birthday. (Yes, I'm seriously the BIGGEST Nintendo geek) so I got to play Mario Go Kart with my cousins while I was home. Shannon and I even made up an air band dance with them while we were there as well. I love going home, I turn back into a little kid when I'm home. Ha ha ha! Oh!! I totally forgot to mention, the BT Girl Calendar will be printed this week. Yippee!!!!!! I'm sooo excited!!! Shannon and I go to the Gathering of Nations next week in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We will have a booth at the Indian Traders Market and we will be selling the BT Girl calendars and posters. Until Next Time! Shauna Baker

Wear pink tomorrow to help stop bullying!
Don't forget to wear pink tomorrow to help bring awareness to bullying. Shannon and I both experienced bullying growing up in school and it's an occurrence that a child should never ever experience. So please wear pink tomorrow to help prevent bullying.
In other news, Shannon and I will be flying to Toronto next week to present the 'Youth Award' at the 'National Aboriginal Achievement Awards'. The awards will be aired on television on both 'APTN' and 'Global Television'.
For those of you that also read Shannon's blogs, you probably already heard that my Aunty Jacquie died this past week. She has been babysitting my little sister since she was a toddler and they were very very close. Emily is in Vancouver with Shannon and I and we have both been doing our very best to help make her happy during these sad times. Aunty Jacquie was was a wonderful, happy and kind lady and she will be missed!!!
Much love, Shauna Baker www.thebakertwins.com

Happy Valentines Day
Category: Blogging
Hello all!! I know it has been FOREVER since I blogged. Please understand my focus has been on the 'BT Girl Calendar'. As some of you know, my sister and I live far far away from our family and I miss them terribly. I've been sooooo lucky that my mom has visited me a couple times last month and she's coming again this weekend and bringing my little sister Emily. How lucky am I???? Yay!!!! My friend Jaspreet informed me of this article Shannon and I are in! The newspaper didn't personally interview us so I'm curious what is said in the article. (The article is in French so if anyone can translate that would be awesome) It's always nice seeing unexpected 'Baker Twin' articles published in newspapers or magazines.
