Nebyudelic Radio Show

I had a very hopeful meeting last night with the guys in charge of a new local radio station, Mearns FM, and it looks like I'll be getting my own slot spinning some tunes.  The license has been granted by Ofcom, but it's early days and there's still a lot more to be done before everything's up and running.

My plans are to only play unsigned punters that I've stumbled across through here, cause there's some absolute quality tunes being made out there that should be spread through the airwaves.  I just hope the farmers and the housewives are ready to have their homes filled full of strange experimental psychedelic-dub-funk nuggets.

More news as and when.....

Drumlithie

I'm moving down to the sleepy wee village of Drumlithie tomorrow morning, and I may be offline for a few days, so I'll catch up with any messages when I get back up and running.

Better go get myself a banjo and a rockin' chair.

Cheerio The Noo....

Nebyudelic To Be Included On Porn Soundtrack!

I've just had a life long dream fulfilled.  I'm about to star in an………errr………"adult movie"!!!

Scud flick director, Vonn Fink, has been in touch with me about appearing in his next film.......but unfortunately there'll be no hands on action for yours truly!  He just wants to use some Nebyudelic sounds on the soundtrack, which as you'd imagine, I was only too happy to oblige.

His debut release with Razordolls Entertainment, "Suthern Cumfort", starring Regan Reese & James Deen, seems to have gone down well in the adult film industry, so exposure to monkey spankers around the world seems imminent.

I'll post more details as they happen, and links to where you can get your grubby paws on the film, should this interesting development see the light of day...........purely for the soundtrack, of course!

Now you'll soon have a bona-fide excuse to have a grumble flick proudly on display in your collection!

Keep It Funky!

Medication For The Soul - Album Review

Opener 'Statement of Intent' has you believing that the aim of Nebyudelic's Scott Leslie is to ape Mad Professor's Weather Storm remix, cribbing depth via Craig Armstrong string arrangements, but this plan is soon erased. Hear 'Decalogue Dodgin's jolly appropriation of the Sesame Street riff with tooting brass and Shaun Ryder-style vocals as if trapped in a little fluffy cloud chamber. Further listen as effects are belched and bleeped out: electric blues riffs on 'Electro Soup'; unfortunate use of panpipes on 'Follow That Pimp' (are panpipes ever a good idea this far off the Inca trail?); throughout, a marriage of Sly Stone's dirty funk to the bongo-strut of Primal Scream with The Orb's inter-galactic organics officiating.

As with most albums constructed by one man bands holed up in their bedroom, this sounds detached from reality, cabin feverish, displaying tendencies to avoid listeners souls in favour of loss in the cosmos. There are meandering phases (tramp ramblings to a dull funk riff in 'The Handclapping Foot Stompin . . .), which undo much of the good in other tracks, but equally there is great inventiveness: centrepiece Ulysses 31 Theme slaps you like a mission statement of Leslies best intentions, a compelling space age theme to pulsing beats and off-the-wall, muggy vocals; right-hand bookend, 'Dub of Intent', is successful at dubbing down Michael Nyman's score for The Piano whilst retaining the beauty within.

Overall, this could be dismissed as electronica by Pollock without the genius mind behind, and ultimately for every two hits theres a miss, but in the face of so much so-so serious music of our times, there is appeal in the innocence and humour required to throw everything at the wall and hope that something sticks. 'Medication For The Soul' dips and dives, it grates teeth and raises smiles; ultimately an odd experiment, a formula to be refined, a mixture that will, no doubt, gain consistency. 7/10
